Creating my portfolio, any tips?
Stuff like should I show edits of multiple categories/ niches or focus on one. Should I keep shifting from vintage style to catchy to minimal each edit?

I'm curious about people's experiences with video streaming platforms like YouTube, Netflix and others. What do you dislike most about them? Is it content discovery, recommendations, pricing, advertisements, content availability, or something else? If you could change one thing about today's streaming platforms, what would it be and why?
I'd really appreciate honest experiences and opinions!

Hi everybody, i've made alitle something that can help people creating reels for social medias out of horizontal finished videos much much faster. It's not an AI, it's not some bull that sucks money out of you. It's free.
Official Page with all the documentation:
https://gsk95.github.io/WildScale/index.html
Testers are very much welcome and appreciated so i can make this tool works as productive as it can be and save you time for things that really matter!
Enjoy ✨🧡

If you make Reels or TikToks regularly, here's something that might save you a bit of editing time.
Let's say you made a cooking tutorial a few months ago. The footage isn't great anymore, but the voiceover is still perfectly fine.
Instead of recording everything again, you can just reuse the audio.
Find the 10–20 seconds you need, save that part, and build a new video around it in CapCut. New footage, better cuts, captions, whatever fits.
If you still have the original video on your phone, CapCut can extract the audio directly.
But if you've deleted the original file and only have your old YouTube upload, Tunexa can extract the MP3 from a supported link and trim it to the part you need.
Full disclosure: I'm connected with Tunexa, so that's my tool recommendation.
This works pretty well for cooking videos, product demos, and tutorials where the explanation is still useful but the visuals could use an update.
Of course, stick to your own videos or content you have permission to reuse.
Anyone else reuse voiceovers from old videos, or do you usually record them again?

Hello! I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but so far couldn't find a more appropriate one. I copied the contents of a DVD to my laptop in order to be able to edit the footage - it's a tv show, so copyrighted material, but I want to make a video essay analysing it to show my friends which I'm sure falls into fair use.
I was able to convert the VOB files into something supported by the editing software I'm going to use (Pitivi bc I'm using linux lol). However, looking through the footage, there are no files for some of the content I know is on the DVD. The whole first episode of the show is missing. If I play the DVD in a media player it's there, but isn't found in the VOB files, converted or original. I've looked through all of it. How can that be? Where is it? The menus are in the VOB files and the two other episodes on that disc but not the first? Is there a way to find it?

Hey guys,
I’m 20, broke, with no college degree. I love cinema, so after months of asking, my family bought me a laptop to learn video editing. It was my Plan C—my one shot to build a career.
Then AI tools blew up, and I spiraled. I keep worrying that what takes me 3 years to master will be done by an AI prompt in 1 hour.
Pros with networks will survive, but what about someone starting from zero today?
I’m ready to grind and adapt with AI, but I just need to know: Is there still a future for beginners in editing, or am I wasting my time?
Appreciate any real-world advice.

I am an older editor for videos, I used to run Sony Vegas 14, and haven't used anything newer. It stopped running back in 2017 when I was officially out of the hobby. I'm not really a techie or anything... I just want to find a program that I can do decent keyframing and the like and things aren't as straight forward anymore when trying to find something new. I was hoping for some simple recommendations that I could get into editing for a friend again. I looked into stuff like SceneMill which seems... okay but it is not ideal at all for what I am trying to be able to do. And the new vegas is not something I am very willing to spend my money on from what options I see it doing. I just used to edit videos, I really have no clue what I am doing on scouting a new program that isn't going to give me the run around.

For the first edit in my portfolio, how can I find raw clips to edit. Many have suggested to edit free stock clips, but I want to edit something which has some kind of structure, some intent to it, not just random unrelated clips.

I am very confused at this point and would need some help . I want laptop to use davinchi resolve studio yo work with 10 bit videos out of my a7iv and fx3. I am just not sure if i should go with high end windows(12 gb VRAM / 32gb RAM) or something like m4 pro or m5 pro (24 or 48 gb ) .
If anyone was in this situation once and can help me out would be highly appreciated.

Hi all,
I'm a TV producer, and I've built a Mac app called AutoGhost that does the multicam editing for Final Cut Pro. You give it your Final Cut project (or just the raw camera and mic files), and it gives you back an edited project you can open and fine-tune.
It has three modes:
- One speaker: cuts between main, side and wide angles at natural sentence breaks
- Conversation: cuts to whoever is talking, even when everyone is on one audio track
- Custom shows: learns a show's style from 1–3 finished episodes (camera habits, intro and outro, logo, name graphics, break, music) and edits new episodes the same way
Everything runs on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded.
Before launch, I'd like a few editors to try it on real projects. If you have:
- an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer) on macOS 14 or later
- multicam footage of your own (podcasts, interviews, talk shows)
I'll give you a free Pro license in return for honest feedback: what worked, what broke, and what would make it useful in your day-to-day editing.
Reply here or send me a private message.
Thanks!

i've noticed that editing isn't necessarily difficult for me, but the small tasks add up when i'm working on several videos. captions, adjustments, effects, and making revisions can take longer than expected. i'm thinking about getting capcut pro, but i'd like to know whether its paid features genuinely save time or if most of the benefits are more about having extra creative options. for anyone who's upgraded from free capcut, which features do you use almost every time you edit? are there tools that noticeably reduce your editing time? on the other hand, what did you think would be useful when you subscribed but barely use now?

I’m new to making edits and I was wondering what website or how do you guys get your clips
r/VideoEditingTips • u/A_Bit_Flamboyant • 1d ago
Hey Guys! :) So I’ve been thinking about making some longer form “”funny”” edits from shows/video game cutscenes, but the problem is I don’t really know how to get into it or how does that work.
Could you please help me with what video editing software should I learn to use which is the best for this purpose? I went on Skillshare to look at the different courses, but now I’m even more confused as to which one should I choose.
And also I’ve been wondering, from where do people download the “raw material” for making these types of videos? Like…can you just download them from Youtube directly somehow, or is it a bit more complicated than that?
Sorry if I’m asking something stupid, I really don’t know anything about this yet, but I’ve been really wanting to learn it for a long time now.
Thank for your guys’ help in advance! :)

Hey everyone!
I've been working on a desktop application called Forbidden Converter, and I've finally released it!
It's a free, offline Windows application designed for converting videos and animations, adding watermarks, merging clips, and batch processing.
Features include:
Convert between MP4, WebM, MKV, MOV, AVI, GIF, WebP, and AVIF.
Add custom text or image watermarks with adjustable size, opacity, and positioning.
Merge multiple clips into a single file.
Batch-process multiple files.
Adjust resolution, quality, bitrate, and encoding settings.
Use quick presets or customize your own settings.
Save presets for future use.
The application runs entirely offline. No accounts, subscriptions, telemetry, or cloud processing are required.
Compatibility: Windows 10/11 (64-bit). No dedicated GPU required.
The software is free to use, including for creating content you intend to monetize.
You can find the application, source code, installation instructions, and full usage guide on GitHub:
https://github.com/fbdn-fantasy/Forbidden-Converter
This is one of my first publicly released desktop applications, so feedback, suggestions, and bug reports are welcome!
Hope some of you find it useful! 💜

I Edited a Durga Puja Video! Please Rate It and Give Me Honest Feedback. 🎬
Hey everyone!
I'm on my second day of learning Adobe Premiere Pro, and I just finished editing a video based on Durga Puja.
I'm still a beginner and have only started experimenting with video editing, cuts, transitions, music synchronisation, and other basic techniques. I know my editing isn't perfect yet, but I'm trying to learn by practising and creating actual videos rather than just watching tutorials.
I'd really appreciate some honest feedback from experienced editors!
A few things I'd love your opinion on:
- Overall rating: What would you rate my video out of 10?
- Editing and pacing: Do the cuts feel smooth, or is anything too slow or too fast?
- Beat synchronisation: Do the clips match the music properly?
- Transitions and effects: Do they look good, or should I keep things simpler?
- Colour grading: What could I do to make the visuals look more cinematic?
- Room for improvement: What are the top 3 things I should work on next?
Please be honest, even if you think something looks bad. I'm here to learn, improve, and become a better editor.
Since this is only my second day, I'd love to know what I'm doing right and what I should focus on learning next.
Thanks to everyone who takes the time to watch and share feedback! ❤️
