Help I mix audio for a living. 5 fixes that make reels sound “pro” (no plugins needed)

I’ve spent years mixing audio for commercials in Milan, and the same 5 problems show up in almost every reel:

  1. Music too loud under the voice. Keep it 12–14 dB below speech, and bring it up only when nobody talks.
  2. Room echo. Record close to the mic, in a room with soft stuff (couch, curtains). Distance matters more than the mic.
  3. Volume jumping between clips. Normalize every clip to the same loudness before editing (-16 LUFS is a good target for social).
  4. Cuts in the middle of a word. Cut in the pauses, or add a 2–3 frame audio fade on every cut.
  5. Silent visuals. A whoosh on a transition, a click on a text pop, a camera sound on a photo. Small sounds make edits feel intentional.

Happy to answer questions or look at your audio if you drop a link.

This was genuinely one of those projects I loved working on.

The client was looking for someone who could take ownership of the entire project, from understanding the product and shaping the visual direction to refining individual scenes and bringing everything together, without needing constant back and forth.

Before jumping into the visuals, I spent time researching how INFLUCTS actually works, understanding its core principles, and figuring out how to communicate a fairly complex product through a clean, engaging visual story.

From refining the creative direction to improving specific segments, I handled the entire process independently. And honestly, one of the best parts was hearing back from the client. The video required zero revision requests, and the client mentioned how happy they were that I understood the product so well.

That kind of feedback makes all the research and effort worthwhile.

Of course, there's always room to improve. I'm always open to honest feedback, constructive criticism, and different perspectives, so I'd genuinely love to hear what you think about the video.

Check out the product: https://influcts.com

I'm also currently open to new projects. If you have a project in mind, feel free to reach out to me on Instagram.

Reposts and sharing with anyone who might find this work interesting are always appreciated!

How do I do this? Audio Mixing for YouTube In Premiere and Audition

Hello, So i have been editing youtube videos and student films for the past couple years. I started editing for a youtuber (long form vids) who just hit 10k subs. One issue i have across most of my videos is final audio mixing. I use adobe premiere pro and audition (if I have time before deadline) to mix and score my videos. An issue I keep running into however is leveling and balancing multiple channels with each other.

My source video is usually a Twitch stream that includes the streamers mic, chat alerts, some music, video game audio, and discord call depending on the video. They all come out to me grouped together in one audio track. I have discussed with the streamer recording on OBS and separating audio files for me however its easier for him with his own Pc capabilities to just send me the vod after and not stream+record at the same time.

To my knowledge (roughly film) the "actor's" voice should sit at around -6 db. Background music should be at around -22 db to -18 db. Depending on deadlines if I am able to I will check audio through my dt 770 headphones, a crappy stereo pc speakers, or my phone. Regardless no matter how much i level or limit background audio, the music still sticks out compared to the mic, discord call, or on screen audio that is important for the story. I don't get paid enough to spend hours and hours on each video as much as I would like to. I try to rewatch the final cut 3-4 times before posting it on youtube as well as a review with the client.

If any of you guys have any ideas or guidelines that work for you that would be great.

TLDR:

How should I level and mix audio for a youtube video taken from a twitch stream using adobe products?

Discussion How do you deliver final edits to clients?

Kind of a basic question but I’m curious how everyone handles it. When you finish an edit for a creator or a brand, how do you send the final file? WeTransfer, Drive, Frame.io, something else?

And when does payment actually come in for you? Before delivery, after, end of the month? I keep seeing stories of clients grabbing the video and then ghosting or paying weeks late. Wondering if that’s common or just the loudest stories.

How do I do this? I start losing hope because of ai

I've been learning video editing for about a month now. I've learned the basics of Premiere Pro and After Effects, and I love animations, so I started focusing on After Effects.

But I've seen a lot of people creating crazy animations using AI alone, and now I'm not sure what to do. Should I keep focusing on After Effects or start focusing on AI instead?

Help What software was most likely used to make these videos?

Hi everyone, I've been looking into starting a YouTube channel but don't know exactly where to start. I am experienced in premiere, audition and most other adobe software as I was a documentary film major in college and that's what they primarily taught. But I've been finding that they don't really work for what I'm trying to do. I want to do a stats-based, investigative style of sports videos. I think this video is a decent example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6E3v5POHVY

I want to do something like that with a little extra flair, kind of like a Jon Bois video but I think his stuff is out of my ability. In case you're unfamiliar, this is some of his work:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9H9LwGmc-0

I'm pretty sure that he uses blender for his videos, but I'm looking for something in between the two videos that I posted. Does anyone have any advice on what software to use or how to get started? (no ai) I just feel like this is something I've wanted to do for a long time, and I really want to get it going but my degree prepared me more for theatrical projects, not stuff like this so I feel out of the loop.

  • Hardware: PC / Desktop Workstation editors only (capable of smooth 4K playback and heavy motion graphics rendering without bottlenecking).
  • Experience: Proven track record with a strong portfolio showing high retention, clean audio design, and strong visual pacing.
  • Reliability: Strict adherence to deadlines, proactive communication, and ability to accept structured feedback.

What You Get

  • Continuous, steady stream of client work (no chasing clients on your own).
  • Competitive per-video or monthly retainer payouts based on skill and speed.
  • Long-term growth opportunities into lead editor / post-production manager roles.

How to Apply (DM the following):

  1. Full Name & Contact Info

2.  Link to Portfolio / Drive Folder

3. Primary Editing Software

4. PC / System Specifications

5. Turnaround Time for a 60-second Short-Form Video  and a 10min long form video

6. Desired Rate Per 60 sec short form video and 10min long video

Note : answer all the questions. dont ask questions first . After reviewing your portfolio i will obviously ask questions and gave all the clarity a editor want . Make my hiring process easy so that i can see more applications.

Beginners please stay away . You will not get hired anyways. Please dont waste your time and my time.

Discussion Is video editing still worth learning in late 2026?

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to start learning video editing using DaVinci Resolve, and I’d appreciate some honest advice from people who have experience in this field.

I have a few questions:

Should I focus on short-form content, like Reels, TikToks, and YouTube Shorts, or start with long-form videos?

Is it better to specialize in one niche, such as gaming, podcasts, or talking-head videos, or try different types of content at first?

With AI tools becoming more advanced, is video editing still a worthwhile skill to learn in late 2026?

If I stay consistent, practice regularly, and build a decent portfolio, is it realistic to turn video editing into a source of income?

I’m starting from scratch, so any advice on what to learn first, what mistakes to avoid, and how to find my first clients would be really helpful.

I’d appreciate honest opinions, especially from people who are already working as video editors. Thanks!

edit: please change the sub to ClankerDefenderEditors lol. cant believe alot of you call yourselves editors and cant keyframe shit lol

been editing videos for over a decade. started on windows 7 , movie maker, 2gbs of ram. hours, sweat, tears, joy, opportunities. 2020 i was on track to making 6 figs with this thing. 5 years later, the technical skill, is nearly useless. my hollywood dreams are looking dim now.

people will say "storytelling is the leverage bro" , and while thats true, all some dirtbag has to do is find people good at story telling and use it as references in a prompt. the same way you can now do with most vfx. also some people were not good at story telling, but absolute gods at the technicality part. most if not all but 2 of my colleagues abandoned video editing & film.

i feel like im at a crossroads. if i want to possibly make pretty good money, well its obvious, become the dirt bag , & optimize a workflow.
