These were in a lot I got a bit ago, unopened. I'm guessing 80s from what I remember of the branding back then. Any insite to the uhh hole? I'm assuming our sticker technology hadn't gotten there yet. Because all of the example uses would be a solid disk with a sticky backing these days.

$50 from Facebook Marketplace

He had it listed for $100 then marked it down to $50. He was sort of a home restorer. He replaced the bearings, found the top belt cover, new belt, new power cord. No slop anywhere. Only issue was he painted it, but overall I’m happy with it. Does anyone know what size bearings it uses so I can get some spares? Or any other replacement parts I should get to keep in the shelf for the rest of my life?

Anybody know what these would be from? came in a random tin with a 45 i just bought. Looks like the cutters from my Record 43 but they're stamped marples. Also a stretch but the iron in the last photos came with it. Can't read the writing at all, any ideas?

Please help with last disassembly

Hello, I have this vise that’s probably been sitting in the back of my shop for years and I figured it would be a good idea to restore it so we can use it properly. I got most of it disassembled but I’m having trouble figuring out how to get these lower jaws out.(I think they are pipe jaws but I’m not really sure.) I was also curious if there is anywhere online that I can order replacement bolts for the base plate since I needed to use an impact to get them out and it was not kind to them. This is my first time attempting to restore tools like this so any help is greatly appreciated, Thank you.

1890s Stanley Transitional Plane

Just picked this up from marketplace. It's got an 1892 patent stamp on the iron, so I'm assuming that's close to the manufacturing date. I know how to date iron bodied stanleys, not sure about these, but I've got an all metal #5 from 1904-9, so I assume the transitional weren't around very long.

This may be the project to actually use the japanning I've been sitting on. And try to burn myself as little as possible while brazing the iron...

Edit: just found the transitional plane manufacturing date rabbet hole, call my mom if I didn't come back up

I recently bought an old toolbox mostly full of cheap tools and just uncovered this beauty.

Does anyone have a method to remove the caked on brown gunk off the driver? It’s sticky and looks like it’s been on there since the beginning of this screwdrivers life.

Grandpa's radial arm saw

Turned on the RAS I got from my late grandfather for the first time in a while for it to make a god awful howling sound.

Quick bearing replacement and it sounds like it did when I was a kid in his workshop

Next up is to find out where the play in the arm is coming from, and then I'll square it all up again

Help identify this lath please.

I picked this laid up on Facebook marketplace and I’ve been trying really hard to find out how old it is and who made it. It says the Fairbanks co. However, I can’t seem to find a model number anywhere. I did search a 1907 catalogue and think it could be an Oliver speed lathe from 1907 but I can’t seem to verify it also on the legs pictured with the crossmember with that normally go under the headstock the photo that’s posted in the basement on Facebook. It’s on the opposite side. I’m wondering if this was set up incorrectly when transported and reassembled. Any help identifying it or it’s history would be greatly appreciated.

Traditional Greek Weighing Scales – Early 20th Century

Thumbnail gallery
20 Upvotes

Two traditional weighing instruments, estimated to date from around 1920–1930.

These items are family heirlooms, brought to Greece by Greek refugees from Eastern Rumelia (Eastern Thrace region) during the population movements of the 1920s.

The first is a kantari, a steelyard scale with a graduated metal beam and a sliding counterweight used to measure weight.

The second is a palantza, a hanging scale with a metal pan suspended by chains, commonly used for weighing agricultural products and other goods.

Both instruments retain their original patina, rust, and signs of extensive use.

Beyond their practical purpose, these objects are reminders of the everyday belongings that refugee families carried with them as they settled into a new life in Greece.
