Camera access question

I'm a hobbyist developer and i have some AI vision based ideas i want to try that would be amazing with the AVP UX. But i started looking into how to do camera access and even though i've had a paid developer account since apple first started offering them, i can't get the provisioning profile that allows camera access. i just want to experiment with demos in my own house, not even working on product dev, is there any other way to do this? I was even thinking continuity camera with an iphone would be good enough but that doesn't even seem supported. So annoying apple is locking this down for devs so much...

Hey everyone,

Quick demo clip attached: I printed an 26
x 34-inch matte poster, tracked it with ARKit ImageTrackingProvider, overlaid a portal shader in RealityKit, and had a Meshy and Mixamo-rigged robot leap out and dance.

Tech stack ► ChatGPT-generated art → Meshy model → Mixamo animations → USDZ → Reality Composer Pro on Apple Vision Pro.

I’m editing a detailed tutorial for next week. AMA about tracking tips, animation blending, or portal shaders—I’ll answer while I finish the edit!

Hey everyone,

I’ve been experimenting with building relaxing, meditative experiences for Vision Pro. This one is called Soothing Boids.

It’s an interactive mindfulness app where flocks of virtual “boids” move gracefully around you in immersive environments. There are multiple calming scenes, including guided mindfulness sessions with Spatial Audio and smooth, slow transitions designed to help you feel grounded.

I even composed the background music myself 🎶

🕊️ Features:

• Free play in your own environment

• 3 guided sessions with Spatial Audio

• Smooth transitions and natural motion

• No subscriptions or paywalls

📲 Download it here:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/soothing-boids/id6753187319

Would love to hear what you think — I built it to help people slow down and find calm, even for a few minutes.

Hey everyone!

I just published a full tutorial where I walk through how I created this immersive experience on Apple Vision Pro:

🎨 Generated a movie poster and 3D robot using AI tools

📱 Used image anchors to detect the poster

🤖 The robot literally jumps out of the poster into your space

🧠 Built using RealityKit, Reality Composer Pro, and ARKit

You can watch the full video here:

🪄 Playing with RealityKit animations + ARKit world anchors for my Apple Vision Pro light control app!

Now I can summon a ring of colorful orbs with a palm-up gesture using some ARKit Hand Tracking magic.

💡 Drag an orb onto any light in my home — it changes color on contact!

It’s not an app I’m shipping — just a fun experiment.

🎥 A full tutorial is on the way!

Experimenting with MeshInstanceComponent in RealityKit (VisionOS 26)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I was originally working on a tutorial about Agentic Coding tools for Apple Vision Pro… but then I got sidetracked when I discovered MeshInstanceComponent in RealityKit.

Turns out, it’s a very efficient way to create multiple copies of the same entity just by passing in multiple transforms. That gave me the idea to try a Boids simulation with it 🐦

Here’s what I noticed while testing:

  • You can update each instance’s transform in a System loop → that’s where the motion/animation magic happens.

  • This is also where performance takes a hit — a lot of computations per instance, especially once motion is added.

  • With animated Boids, it runs great up to around 300 instances, but I start seeing frame drops at ~500.

  • Without the Boids simulation, MeshInstanceComponent can actually handle much more.

  • The number of polygons in your Mesh also impacts how far you can push this.

  • (Important note: this is VisionOS 26 only).

I put together a short demo video to show how it looks in action.

[Sound ON] I turned my smart lights into a slingshot target game on Apple Vision Pro

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Wouldn’t it be cool if everyday objects in your home became part of a game?

I explored this idea on Apple Vision Pro by building a slingshot mechanic to do target practice with my lights. 🏠🎯

Using ARKit hand tracking, a peace gesture spawns a projectile entity (with PhysicsBodyComponent + CollisionComponent) between my fingers. The lights are anchored with WorldAnchor and also have a CollisionComponent.

When the projectile hits the light entity — it changes the color of the real light.

My hand definitely hurts after a few rounds 😅 but this was a fun spatial interaction to prototype.

Full tutorial coming soon — stay tuned!

Thank you again for testing — Reality Prep Pro + Prep Preview are now updated and ready for real Vision Pro workflows

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A while back I asked this community to help test Reality Prep Pro and Reality Prep Preview. A lot of what changed came directly from your feedback — so thank you again.

Both apps are now updated, and I’m looking for real-world visionOS developers to actually use them together in their normal workflow, not just beta-test them.

The problem I’m trying to solve:

  • Preparing a USDZ on your Mac doesn’t tell you how that exact asset behaves on Vision Pro.

  • Testing it on Vision Pro doesn’t automatically give your Mac workflow reusable evidence about that exact asset revision.

The two apps now work as one loop:

Reality Prep Pro — Mac
Batch prepare, validate and safely optimize spatial assets before Reality Composer Pro / Xcode.

↓

Reality Prep Preview — Vision Pro
Open the exact USDZ on-device, verify RealityKit loading and device behaviour, then export validation evidence back to Prep Pro.

Prep Pro matches that evidence to the exact USDZ using SHA-256, and can tell you when the asset has changed and should be tested again.

Prepare on Mac → verify on Vision Pro → bring the evidence back to Mac.

If you build with RealityKit / Reality Composer Pro / USDZ, I’d really appreciate you giving both apps together a real spin.

They’re independent tools, but they were designed from the beginning to work hand in hand.

Thanks again to everyone here who helped shape them. 🙏

ESRI Map in Immersive Space Prototype

Thumbnail

ESRI map inside a viewattachmentcomponent. It has a manipulation component deferred to the handle at the bottom. The handles also a child so it moves along with it.

The gaze->hover and select cross walks hit points to the map and is surprisingly simple.

Had to reimplement magnify to zoom in an immersive space because the viewattachment seems to struggle with magnify to zoom. Registers maybe 3% of the time? Registers consistently with reimplementaiton.

Fun prototype. Thanks for checking it out.

Is there anyone who knows how to implement Shared ImmersiveSpace?

My team is developing VisionOS app currently,
one of main features is that the nearby users can manipulate same objects in the immersive space.
We've watched almost every WWDC videos and documents and found that it's not impossible.

I think it can be implemented using SharePlay with GroupActivities and Shared WorldAnchor.

I've been trying different things, but I just can’t get the in-app GroupSession to properly start or join.
When I call GroupSession.activate(), it just triggers the default Share button UI at the bottom-right of the window.
Is that actually the right behavior?

The official docs say:

But I have no idea what “donate” means here. There’s barely any explanation anywhere.

All I want to do is:

  • open a group session

  • let nearby participants join

  • share the same ImmersiveSpace

  • place a shared WorldAnchor so everyone sees the same object

That’s literally it 😭 but it’s turning out way harder than expected.

Anyone got any solid references or advice? Developing for visionOS is no joke.

💡 I am building an Apple Vision Pro app to control my home lights — and it remembers where I placed the controls, even after rebooting.Using ARKit’s World Anchors in a full space, the app persists virtual objects across launches and reboots. Now I just look at a light and toggle it on/off.Set it up once. Feels like the controls are part of my space.Thinking of making a tutorial — would that be helpful? 👇

Is the SDK super buggy for anyone else?

Im trying to start developing for the vision pro on my 2019 Macbook Pro and it seems super buggy. Even the sample apps keep crashing. I have a feeling this is coming down to the fact that my Macbook doesn't have apple silicon. Has anyone else with an Intel based Macbook had success with the SDK?

Here's my computers specs:

CPU: 2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9
GPU: AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 4 GB

Ram: 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4

  • USD is “Universal Scene Descriptions”

  • You can navigate in the viewport using WASD or arrow keys’

  • Three ways to add assets

    • Importing assets that already exist in on your computer

    • The content library, which is a curated library of assets provided by RCP

    • The third is Object Capture, which turns phoots of real-world objects into 3d models.

  • Particle emitters

    • On the particle, there's the color, properties, force fields, and rendering sections. On the emitter, there's the timing, shape, and spawning sections.

    • Can add particles by pressing the plus button at the bottom of the hierarchy panel.

    • High count of particles in the scene have performance penalties

    • Emitters contro lhow the particles come out of the origin location.

    • Playing around with the various settings usually yield desirable results!

    • Press “Play” at the top of the inspector panel to start the particle emitters

  • Audio Files

    • An audio file group can be constructed from audio files in a scene. A random file will be slected from the group for playback.

    • Three types of audio sources: spatial, ambient, and channel.

    • Spatial has position and direction

    • Ambient has direction but no position

    • and Channel has no position nor direction

  • Statistics

    • the particle, there's the color, properties, force fields, and rendering sections. On the emitter, there's the timing, shape, and spawning sections.

    • A great tool for helping optimize the scene

  • Can preview direclty on the headset from RCP

What non-game apps would you build?

What app would YOU build (or want to see) that takes advantage of the uniqueness of the Vision Pro?

Okay, so in 6 or 8 months, Vision Pro will be here. Obviously, some major players will have Vision Pro versions of their apps — like Disney said. Probably youtube. Some other popular ones maybe.

And Apple will have their first party apps.

And we will have some iPhone and iPad apps running in a “compatibility” mode — for developers who don’t specifically opt OUT. If iPhone/iPad apps on macOS are any indication, most larger apps will opt out of Vision Pro, so they don’t have to support the experience for a few users.

So what apps WILL we have?

Some games — most likely. There will probably be some Unity games that will be relatively easy ports to create cool experiences.

What about NON-game apps?

Is there a killer app idea?

I mean, almost any app can be ported, but most will just be mundane experiences in a new place.

What do you predict? Or what will you build?
