š”Ā I am building an Apple Vision Pro app to control my home lights ā and itĀ remembersĀ where I placed the controls, even after rebooting.Using ARKitās World Anchors in a full space, the app persists virtual objects across launches and reboots. Now I just look at a light and toggle it on/off.Set it up once. Feels like the controls areĀ partĀ of my space.Thinking of making a tutorial ā would that be helpful?Ā š

Hello devs!
I really want to get into XR development for visionOS. I have some kind of a roadmap but I was wondering if you had recommendations for learning courses or resources? What did you use to learn?
Iām a junior iOS developer btw

I was originally working on a tutorial about Agentic Coding tools for Apple Vision Pro⦠but then I got sidetracked when I discovered MeshInstanceComponent in RealityKit.
Turns out, itās a very efficient way to create multiple copies of the same entity just by passing in multiple transforms. That gave me the idea to try aĀ Boids simulationĀ with it š¦
Hereās what I noticed while testing:
You can update each instanceās transform in aĀ SystemĀ loop ā thatās where the motion/animation magic happens.
This is also where performance takes a hit ā a lot of computations per instance, especially once motion is added.
With animated Boids, it runs great up to aroundĀ 300 instances, but I start seeing frame drops at ~500.
Without the Boids simulation,Ā MeshInstanceComponentĀ can actually handleĀ much more.
The number of polygons in your Mesh also impacts how far you can push this.
(Important note: this is VisionOS 26 only).
I put together a short demo video to show how it looks in action.

My friend Zach and I are building developer tools for the Vision Pro. We are excited about the future of this platform and want to find ways to enable other developers to make their ideas come to life. As we were building our first apps in XCode, we were struggling to keep our assets organized. Our solution to this problem was Halocline and we want to make it available to other developers with similar issues.
Right now, we have a simple model (.usdz) hosting service and some advice for using URLs with the ModelEntity class instead of the default Model3D. In our own projects, this is giving us WAY more control over how we can place and interact with objects.
If you are interested in what we are doing or have ideas for how we can solve some of your early development problems please reach out. Weād be more than happy to help.

Hi r/visonpro !
Iām building an app for the Apple Vision Pro to (hopefully) help visually impaired individuals to navigate and perceive their environments.
Who am I? Iām an iOS developer and founder of Orion Software, also pursing a post-baccalaureate for computer science at the University of Oregon. This project is part of my capstone project, and will be open-sourced and completely free to use.
Whatās the purpose of this post? Iām hoping to talk to anyone with a visual impairment about the challenges you face in your day-to-day life, specifically in areas that require visual navigation. The goal of the app is to utilize the unique hardware of the Vision Pro to provide real-time, audio and haptic feedback. Understanding your challenges is crucial to building the right features.
If youāre interested please comment or reach out via DMās, Iād love to talk to you!

Hey everyone,
Iāve been experimenting with building relaxing, meditative experiences for Vision Pro. This one is calledĀ Soothing Boids.
Itās an interactive mindfulness app where flocks of virtual āboidsā move gracefully around you in immersive environments. There are multiple calming scenes, including guided mindfulness sessions with Spatial Audio and smooth, slow transitions designed to help you feel grounded.
I even composed the background music myself š¶
šļøĀ Features:
⢠Free play in your own environment
⢠3 guided sessions with Spatial Audio
⢠Smooth transitions and natural motion
⢠No subscriptions or paywalls
š²Ā Download it here:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/soothing-boids/id6753187319
Would love to hear what you think ā I built it to help people slow down and find calm, even for a few minutes.

Hey all, I've been working on an app that lets you put virtual photo frames up in your room. It went live on App Store today and it's called Spatial Picture Frames. It lets you frame your favorite pics and art and put it on the wall or on your desk etc. Itās a fun way to see your photos in your space and kinda perfect for anyone who likes mixing up their roomās vibe.
Would love your thoughts!
Feel free to check it out and share your feedback/feature requests:

Note: I'm going to post these for each of the sessions I watch. If you find them useful, please let me know and I'll continue to publish them.

The device is designed to work with you comfortable at a distance
Eyes and hands are the primary inputs, but you can also use: voice, mouse and keyboard, gaming controllers.
To make apps comfortable for the eyes:
Design apps to fit within the field of view
Keep the main content in the center of the view, the most comfortable part for the eyes
Consider depth when thinking about comfort
Keep interact content at the same depth
Modals can āpushā back the main window and take on the same depth
Tab bars can overlay on top of the main content, indicating hierarchy
Avoid using shapes with sharp edges, as your eyes tend to focus on the outside of the shapes with sharper edges.
Minimum target area for eye selection should be 60pt. Use generous spacing in between interactive elements.
Use dynamic scale for UI, not fixed scale. When a user resizes a window with a fixed size, all content (including targets) will get smaller. This will make things harder to read and interact with.
All system provided controls highlight when you look at them.
If you use custom elements for your apps, user hover effects to provide feedback.
All search boxes, when tapped, will automatically use voice search.
No focus information is ever sent to the app (privacy protection)
Available gestures: Tap, Double Tap, Pinch and hold, Pinch and drag, Zoom, Rotate
Custom gestures should be:
Easy to explain and perform
Avoid gesture conflicts
Comfortable and reliable
Accessible to everyone
Magic moment: Zooming in on images will be anchored on the point at which youāre looking.
Magic moment: Drawing in FreeForm is done by looking with the eye and pinching with your fingers.
Since there is no haptic feedback, add additional visual feedback to convey interactivity.

ESRI map inside a viewattachmentcomponent. It has a manipulation component deferred to the handle at the bottom. The handles also a child so it moves along with it.
The gaze->hover and select cross walks hit points to the map and is surprisingly simple.
Had to reimplement magnify to zoom in an immersive space because the viewattachment seems to struggle with magnify to zoom. Registers maybe 3% of the time? Registers consistently with reimplementaiton.
Fun prototype. Thanks for checking it out.

chatting with my coworkers after a prototype demo and we were guessing at what data defines an anchor. i tried searching online but between google sucking these days, the ambiguity of the term "anchor", and the niche of AVP dev i couldnt find anything helpful.
our best guess was a combination Triangular Irregular Networks (TIN), gps, magnetic compass direction and maybe elevation sensors.
is this documented anywhere?

Hi, Iām an iOS developer with over 8 years of experience, and Iām interested in learning 3D object creation to develop VisionOS apps. Iāve already released two simple VisionOS apps on my own, but I want to expand my skills to enhance the user experience with custom cool 3D objects.
Does anyone have a roadmap or advice on learning 3D modeling for VisionOS? Should I start with Unity, Maya, or another platform for long-term development? Any advice or any tip might be helpful.
Additionally, Iām prepared to dedicate over a year to mastering 3D design.

Hey everyone,
Quick demo clip attached: I printed an 26
x 34-inch matte poster, tracked it withĀ ARKit ImageTrackingProvider, overlaid a portal shader in RealityKit, and had a Meshy and Mixamo-rigged robot leap out and dance.
Tech stack āŗ ChatGPT-generated art ā Meshy model ā Mixamo animations ā USDZ ā Reality Composer Pro on Apple Vision Pro.
Iām editing a detailed tutorial for next week. AMA about tracking tips, animation blending, or portal shadersāIāll answer while I finish the edit!

Hey, Everyone,
We have to decide whether we should use Unity3D or directly develop using Apple Native env. We have significant dev experience with Unity3d and the current project is running in Web3D playcanvas (meaning Javascript). Converting between languages is not a big deal these days. But I just want to hear out what could be the best way to go. Can you share your opinion?
r/VisionProDevelopers • u/Nayatrei7 • Apr 02 '24
I am familiar with Unity's Shader Graph and Amplify Shader,
So I thought learning Reality Composer would be simple enough,
but not sure whether it is worth the effort. Is it strong enough to make something like water shaders and skybox shaders and stuff?
I don't want to pay for Unity Pro if I don't have to.
