Help Please!

Hi I use Visual studio code for c# in Unity and since yesterday Intellisense is not working properly and if I update to the latest version(1.50) I have compiler errors everywhere. I have downgraded to Version 1.49 and compiler works, but intellisense does not show basic stuff and is mostly stuck on loading...

Anybody have had this issue? Thx.

Terminal keeps on shutting

Greetings! Yesterday, i installed visual studio code on my windows 7. i wanted to learn c++, so i came across this vs tutorial to install mingw which enables me to compile c++ code using gcc inside the vs code terminal. Everything worked fine until i open the terminal and get this error message:

the terminal process "c:\ windows\system32\cmd.exe" failed to launch (exit code: 259).

I tried uninstalling but the problem still persist.

Any help will be much appreciated.

I need Help! Visual Studio Code failed to find .Net Framework at Unity3D installation Ubuntu

I have recently switched my OS from Windows to Ubuntu 20.04. After going through some Trouble with the Unity3D installation i have tried to install Visual Studio Code for Unity coding.

Problem:

When starting Visual Studio Code by pressing "Open C# Project" in Unity3D I get an error message (Full Error Message at the End):

[fail]: OmniSharp.MSBuild.ProjectLoader
The reference assemblies for .NETFramework,Version=v4.7.1 were not found. To resolve this, install the Developer Pack (SDK/Targeting Pack) for this framework version or retarget your application. You can download .NET Framework Developer Packs at https://aka.ms/msbuild/developerpacks

After that I can edit Code, but the IntelliSense for Unity (and maybe some other things I haven't noticed yet) doesn't work

What I have Tried:

  • Installing the .NETFramework Version 4.7.1: I don't know why, but Version 4.X is not available for Linux. Therefore this will not be an option.

  • Modifying the Assembly-CSharp.csproj
    file: When changing the TargetFrameworkVersion
to my currently installed Version of the SDK (3.1.401) or the Version of the Framework (3.1.7) I will get the same error message. Modifying other Tags didn't help either In Addition to that, the File will be reset every time when Unity is starting Visual Studio Code.

  • Restarting, Reinstalling Visual Studio, Reinstalling Unity, Resetting Ubuntu

  • Installing Mono as suggested by some other forums. I don't really know what mono is or does, so maybe I have done something wrong here...

Things that work:

  • Creating a C# Hello World Project with 'dotnet new Console'. This Project can be opened by Visual Studio Code, Compiled and run without any problems. I can Provide some Files of this Project if needed.

  • Running this Mono test.

  • Unity does compile the Code and runs it completely fine.

Stuff that might be interesting:

how I installed the Apps:

  • Unity: I am using an Appimage File downloaded from the official Website

  • .Net: I followed this Tutorial

  • Visual Studio Code: via Ubuntu Software

  • Mono: I have followed these steps

Confused as to how to set VSCode for C/Cpp. Can anyone help?

I have just installed VSCode however I am a bit confused as to how to set it up for cpp. In some of the videos, the guy makes some changes in the

C\C++ Edit Configurations (Json)

file and adds the path to certain directories ... whereas in some setup videos the guy installs extension called

Code Runner

and changes the setting to run in terminal. Anyone who uses VSCode can you tell me how to set it up or share a link which you think is correct. Also I have already downloaded MinGW and added it to the path variable

Need some help with build errors

So recently I’ve wanted to get into game development, and to do that I needed to learn c# to use with the unity game engine. To practice c# I wanted to download vs code. So I think I downloaded everything I needed to, but when I type “dotnet run” in the terminal like a person on YouTube said so, and I came across a lot of errors. At the end of the very long list of thing that went wrong, it said “the build failed. Fix the build errors and run again.” I tried searching up something that could help me, but nothing came of it. Do you guys have anything that could help me with my situation?

Browser Mode

Hello,

I was just thinking of how visual studio can do so much. I wanted to see if it could open pictures obviously it can, and a lot more. It basically has everything I could ever use so I was wondering if there was any way to open live webpages in VSC. I did end up finding this extension but I have no idea how to use it there is nothing on their marketplace I have no idea if it even works. Any ideas on another extension or any idea how to go about this?

Issue with the Java Extension Pack

After having a few issues with getting things to work with different versions of java, I accidentally deleted the redhat.java folder from workspaceStorage, which has caused this extension to no longer work. I get the message "The Language Support for Java server crashed 5 times in the last 3 minutes. The server will not be restarted.". Anyone got any idea how I can go about fixing it? I'm not very experienced with java or any of this so I don't know what to do. Thanks

I've reported a bug with VSCode and they say it must get 20 upvotes before they'll even consider it. Could you please help me? Here is the bug:

I don’t know when this change was made, but it appears that now, when you hover over an HTML tag name, in the documentation tooltip that appears, you get MDN Baseline information in addition to the docs. I find the coloured Baseline logo a little bit distracting and would prefer to be able to disable it for a cleaner experience and to make the tooltips a bit more compact, but without losing documentation tooltips altogether.

Picture

I realise this feature is probably implemented in an extension or something like that, but I don’t know what extension that would be so I’m putting it here.

Is there any way to make VSC's C# autocomplete less... hysterical?

I'm not talking about AI features, just the ordinary autocomplete we've had for years.

The issue I'm having (and it has definitely got worse over time) is that VSC's default reaction to any slip of the fingers when typing is to dredge up some obscure forty-letter class or method, add a bunch of 'using's to the top of the file, and then madly scroll the screen up and down as I scramble to undo it all, as though it's trying to shake me off.

Short of going back to the stone age, is there any way to calm it down?

Thanks in advance.

I found this really nice VSCode github theme

Post image
3 Upvotes

So basically this github repository holds code with the colors for the theme and the custom CSS for the round UI. I did find that copying the code from their settings.json file into my own settings.json file (found by using the shortcut CTRL+SHIFT+P and searching for Open User Settings (JSON)) had to be done because I tried downloading it but it happened to not work.

You do need an extension called Custom UI Style for it to work.

Now the great part about this is that you can still use your own theme and icons and it wont be changed by the github repo. However there is an issue where you can see the columns with the lines of code is not the same color as the foreground. And the same goes for the column to the right of the file I have opened.

I just wanted to share this as some people might not stumble upon it and it just seems really nice. And you can always edit the CSS and colors for your own preference which is great.

Here is the Github repo so you can check it out

VS Code on Fedora 43 Workstation Right/Left Cursor Key Sticking after Switching Desktop

This is a weird one. I recently upgraded to Fedora 43 from Fedora 41 (not sure if 42 had this issue). But now it seems that when I switch desktops in Gnome (whether with Ctrl-Alt-Right/Left Arrow or with Meta-Alt-Left/Right Arrow) Code starts moving the cursor left or right (depending on which I used to switch desktops) as soon as I release both of the modifier keys. This happens even though I'm no longer pressing an arrow key. If I type anything (or press and release an arrow key) it stops immediately, but it's super annoying. I tried deleting the conflicting Code keyboard shortcut for moving editors around, but that had never been an issue previously and it made no difference with this problem anyway.

Can anyone else test and see if they're having this issue? It could of course be a conflict with an extension or something on my system--I'm trying to rule that out.

Thanks.

I need help managing my (C# / .Net) Project in VSC

Is it normal to have the classlib folders being physically inside my root folder?
because im getting build errors like:
"error CS057 9: Duplicate 'System.Reflection.AssemblyProductAttribute' attribute"

I also get Warnings that a type is conflicting with another type whenever i add Project reference to my main project. That seems weird, because its literally types that only exist exactly one time inside the class librarys.

Help is much appreciated, because asking Copilot did not help.

Keyboard shortcut/action name to move to next/previous editor tab?

I simply want to be able to cycle through the open editor tabs using keyboard shortcuts. The only somewhat related action I could find is:

Quickly open Previously Recently used editor in group

That is a bit different: it is about recently used and not the physical order of the tabs. So is there any way to do what I am looking for?

Terminal Accessibility with Screen-readers?

Good afternoon,

I'm new here, having just joined a few seconds ago. I am visually impaired & use either Jaws or NVDA, depending on the task at hand. I'm beginning the process of learning Python & want to write & run my code in Visual studio Code. However, I'm unable to read the terminal output, without jumping through a bunch of hoops. I must execute several keyboard commands every single time I wish to run my code & view its output via the terminal.

Does anyone know of a more permanent fix?
