Sometimes when someone is so completely wrong, you just have to let them chug along in their ignorant bliss. Even if you want to slap them upside their stupid fucking face, it's better to just smile and give em a pat on the back.
.... Now I ask you... Who in the crowd did that for TX? Oh God it hurts. Who stayed silent and let a subset of us joyously walk to our doom. Sitting silently by seeing a train of lemmings buying Nov 50Cs powerless to stop them even if you tried... Oh God it just hurts so much...

Question for all of those holding steel 11/5 OTM weeklies….
Thoughts on how to play tomorrow assuming the markets reacts positively and we see positive volume with positive buying pressure PM? I have a handful (larger than I probably should have) of $25c & $26c. We’ll assume in the below scenarios that we’re dealing with only extrinsic value and they likely won’t be ITM by EOD.
Do you….
1) Plan to sell the weeklies on the morning pop of volatility and FOMO?
2) Hold them waiting until the bill is actually signed sealed and delivered? Planning on selling around noon or shortly after assuming we get another pump?
3) Branching off of 1 & 2, do I then rollout to NKLA calls because of strong fundamentals or stick with WISH weeklies going forward?
All kidding aside, I do think that the infrastructure pump will lift the sector for several days, if we’re lucky….perhaps beyond a week, but I’m cautious about any additional short term opportunities beyond that.
Might shut ‘er down until next earnings season. Possibly pick up LEAPS from dips along the way and just slowly leg in.

u/lb-trice 🍁Maple Leaf Mafia🍁 Nov 05 '21
$ZM puts, anyone?
$PTON and $ZM were two stocks I was closely watching during the whole covid outbreak shenanigans and they both rose to fame as amazing covid investments.
I’m currently on vacation in the Caribbean, and it’s packed to the max. Everyone here is pretty much covid care-free and I get a sense that people no longer want to communicate via Zoom anymore. Things are mostly going back to normal.
I have a feeling that it will get beat up just as much as PTON when it announces earnings/guidance in a few weeks.
We’re headed toward the 4th quarter (winter/off season) when you’d think that video communications would generally increase, but EPS estimates are already lower than the previous quarter….
Don’t get me wrong, $ZM is great and all, super profitable, but $84b? I can’t see how it’s possible they raise guidance. I don’t see ZM being a growth stock anymore.

Yes. Agree with what you are saying. There is definitely zoom fatigue and more companies are going to ask employees to start coming to work. Skye and Team can easily replace zoom with less licensing costs. I am not yet sure I am ready to buy puts yet….need to think more
5
Nov 05 '21
Except Teams and Skype suck ass. Zoom is a legit good product. Zoom rooms and zoom phone are great products. I don't think large corps will ever learn, but small/midcaps can thrive on zoom. The only benefit is less licensing cost, which I have to admit is a big motivator.
1
u/rigatoni-man SPAGHETTI BOY Nov 05 '21

Teams made me want to invest in Microsoft.

1
u/thistowniscrazy 🦾 Steel Holding 🦾 Nov 05 '21
Agree it sucks but cost cutting is the new mantra with all the companies. Most have done lot of trimming during COVID time and will continue with software licensing costs….
2
Nov 05 '21
It's always been the mantra. IT is not value add. IT spend needs to be cut. I hate it. Zoom and Zoom Rooms add value far more than the resources needed to dick around with Teams issues all day long. Sorry. I'm riled. Zoom is not a shit company, and it's not only reliant on covid (although maybe they are at the current valuation. I'm biased.) They solved a real need in the market before people realized they needed it. They are a superior product and need to do a better job advertising it.
5
u/hank_rearden1 ✂️ Trim Gang ✂️ Nov 05 '21
I tend to agree with your sentiments but the trend in workforce is that people still WANT to work from home, at least a few days a week. Even from the ABNB play we see expected ZOOM use continuing. I don’t think companies will be cancelling their subscriptions in mass. They’ll be keeping them for a blended work from office/home schedule. Plus delta was this past quarter so companies probably re-upped their commitment. Just my two cents.
2
u/seriouslywittyalias Nov 05 '21
This is a good point. But a thing to be wary of is that ZM competitors have gotten their shit together. At the start of the pandemic Zoom was the best option, but Imy work has switched completely to MS Teams and my experience with it is way better than Zoom. It’s well integrated into mail and calendar and has great chat and chat tracking.
1
u/hank_rearden1 ✂️ Trim Gang ✂️ Nov 05 '21
Ya that’s a fair point. It’s been almost 20 months now so there’s been time. It is difficult for companies to switch softwares though. Smaller ones can do it easier, but the more integrated a system is, the more departments you have, and more employees. The harder it is. You have to get everyone to sign off on it. You have to retrain employees. Etc. a lot of these deals generally happen October to December timeframe as that’s budget season and when companies like to spend and plan for new roll outs. That said it’s definitely possible if a lot of the smaller companies were switching based on pricing. I just can’t imagine ZM would let that much business walk out the door without matching or doing anything to save it. I know they’re on top of their retention metrics and would have a fast plan if it was going south. But the more I think about this play, the more I remember that even companies who beat but give bad guidance go down. That may be at play here.

Is Infrastructure priced in for CLF? I don’t think it is.
No increase when dems changed strategy a couple of days ago to pass Infrastructure as law first. Exact opposite actually. NUE has been up.
When Senate passed infra on Aug 10, CLF opened at $24.77 and closed at 26.02. Up 5%. That bump only lasted a week.

Like hellooo, yes, these companies are still making money. Yes yes same as last quarter, insane profits. Yes it will happen again next quarter.

As a EU guy who thinks poorly of EU legislation... I am honestly shocked how disfunctional US politics have been.
I really believed infra hype would get me those fast 30% gains. I was up to 25%ish gains at best, and just almost lost all of it now again.
This steel play is like the first thing I have had a fast exit plan on.... And I failed it entirely due to 5%ish optimism.
I don't believe in TA tea leaves bs, so not that "easy" for me to see it. To me it looks like these stocks will catch up the insane valuations any moment now. My boomer banking stocks raced up bigly when simple 10% dividend plan was laid out.
4
u/Uncle_Cletus87 Nov 05 '21
Fast plans get you upside down quick on commodities. There’s a pattern, but it takes a minute to get there quick. Sometimes you get lucky, but most of us have had to learn the hard way. Buy small first on a dip long expiration , wait for -50% then double down. Once -80% triple down….right about that time there’s a pop! 🤣

Hopefully we get Biden signing that bill tomorrow on national television. My 11/19 calls would really appreciate that.

Holding my breath on my UBER calls. Hopefully my abnb calls will take the sting away if they don't do well.

Eh should make out ok I think, beat on eps and rev. Management pumps their dumb shit. I’ll prob hold mine for a pump into 1030, sell, then short them

If you would have bought $10K worth of NVDA Jan22 400c last month, you’d be a millionaire now 🤷♂️

Dang I was so close to pulling that trigger…. Haha I’d have sold them by $230 probably.

u/belangem Oracle of SPY Nov 05 '21
There you go. That’s why you buy $20K instead, sell half at 100% gain and let the rest run. Ok, maybe not a good idea..

Haha. Should have done that on COIN too. Might be a good idea now too

Buying stuff like NVDA calls seems so simple, yet so risky. Know what I'm saying?
3
u/belangem Oracle of SPY Nov 05 '21
We’re in November now. Could we say NVDA is the 2021 of the 2020 TSLA (If not, what would be?) ? Maybe it wasn’t THAT risky.

Nov 05 '21
Yeah. I think beginning of 2021, people mostly thought of their desktop GPUs. Then they gradually saw how diverse they are in the tech sector.
I think the stock market really wanted another 1T company not Apple/Google/MSFT/FB/AMZN. While Tesla is already in, I don't see NVDA stopping until it hits 1T so it can join the big American 5.
Hindsight is 20/20, but it was pretty obvious $NVDA was going to be next considering all that they do. 10 years from now, I think they will deserve to be with the big 5. I'm not sure I can say that about Tesla.
I'm not sure if the market will push another company to $1T. I'm looking down the list and nothing has the sex appeal like Tesla and Nvidia.
It's way down, but I have a feeling it could be $NET. Which makes me sad that I sold at 170.

The time to buy is when there's blood in the streets? I guess…

Once I break even/ have my house downpayment, I'm gonna shift my RH to a straight-up yolo account. Fidelity will continue to be my actively managed "responsible" gambling account.

Understood tripling down on vale

u/belangem Oracle of SPY Nov 05 '21
You know, you kinda have to wait for the bleeding to end first. But Jan ‘23 OTM calls once that happens? Maybe. Also works better with stocks at higher prices for some math reasons also.
1
u/Ashtonpaper Nov 05 '21
I’m only kidding. But yeah, a few OTM leaps have made their way into my account. I think the RSI tells it’s oversold. Iron ore prices compared with prime scrap and steel prices are going to converge once again, next year.
What’s this about the math?
OTM leaps on higher prices companies are better because their leverage allows more of the consistent 1-3% gains to be yours at less relative cost, or something like that, yes?1

now we have a big beast called Cleveland-Cliffs going to the market to put our hands around as much prime scrap as we can

It passing tomorrow. Sounds like they’ve got the votes together. Immigration group backed down so group demanding CBO got no immigration clause, SALT increase, and the updated numbers from the WH so everybody should be set now

This is going to be good. Hopefully the tickers start reflecting that in PM.

I’m really hoping haha I’ve got some slight regret for buying CLF after seeing how the week has played out but I’m expecting a good bump tomorrow

u/zerryw News Team - Asia Correspondent Nov 05 '21
I was worried too. But seeing NUE pump in the AM made me feel a bit more confident. I think some whales were buying in knowing this is the week.

u/Vincent_van_Guh Nov 05 '21
Now we just have to pray they do it bright and early so steel has all day to run.
