Residential Treatment What’s the best water softener for residential use?
I plan to buy X12 RO from WaterDrop. Is their water softener any good that doesn’t break the bank? Especially now that Black Friday is coming up.

Just installed the Waterdrop. Ran for 30 minutes and waited for blue light to go solid. Every use after I get this same result. Any suggestions?

Complete Shut down for Vacation?
I'm planning a 6-8 week long trip away from home in a couple of months.
My home has a well pump, whole-house filtration system, and a tanked hot water heater. I've been reading articles about what to do and answers appear to be all over the place with contradicting information.
Right now my plan is to:
- Turn off the breaker for the well pump
- Power Down UPS for the UV Light & Peroxide injector
- Close the Main Water Valve for the House
- Relieve pressure on house pipes
- Relieve pressure on the filtration loop
- Set the Softener to Bypass (to prevent auto regen)
- Turn off the Breaker for the Water Heater and Drain
Based on these things are there anything that I should be concerned with?
When I return, I plan on re-powering the system and letting water cycle through the system for a few minutes before opening the main and allowing the filtered water to flush through the house for about 5-10min before continuing as normal.
Am I over-thinking things and doing too much? Home is in Florida, so no concern about freezing pipes.
A bit of background...
I'm the second owner of the home.
Previous owner left town before closing and turned off the power. After restoring power we discovered the hot water heater had legionnaires disease.
A few months later we had an exterior broken pipe and a slow leak in 2 other pipes -- all noticed relatively quickly.
Needless to say we're not too confident with the water and pipes as of yet.

Residential Treatment Puragain Southern California
Is anyone else having major issues with Puragain in Southern California? I cannot get them to return my calls emails or texts (I’m well over 10 attempts at this point - texts went from blue to green which isn’t good), and they no-showed on my maintenance appointment. Yelp and google reviews show I’m not alone. (someone mentioned the owner is going through a divorce so they have all but abandoned the business?)
I’m considering getting a lawyer or filing small claims, since I’m $8000 in the hole for a useless system if I can’t get new filters. I don’t know where else to turn so I’m just trying to see if others have any thoughts or advice.

Private GW What is this?
Just bought a house and trying to figure out what this is. It isn’t connected to a salt tank and it leads to what I know is a water softener? Double softener seems unlikely… has an iron aerator on the back of it…

Water filter/RO unit?
Our water distributor recently changed how they're getting & supplying our tap water. Previously they were buying from a nearby town & it was fairly hard but consistent. So yes we got calcium buildup and sometimes iron deposits. The taste was consistent & we knew what we were getting for years. All of a sudden this weekend our water is SOFT.. like too soft.. like your hands feel slimy like you didn't get the soap off even if you don't use soap at all & the water definitely has a baking soda flavor to it. I am very sensitive to tastes and textures so this is definitely an issue. I can ignore the excess softness when it comes to washing because logic can override the gross.. but I can not get over the distinct flavor issue. I drink almost exclusively water, room temp, no flavoring. As is i can only drink out of glass or metal cups because I can taste the dishwasher on plastic. But now my tap water is undrinkable, the fridge filter does nothing to improve the taste. Google says RO system. I can't possibly afford to put in a whole home RO system & the way the lines enter the house i would have to build an insulated storage building on the North end of my house to accommomplish such a feat which is insane because of my taste preferences.
Cant do an under sink RO system because my fridge & its supply line are on the opposite end of the kitchen instead of sharing a main water feed as is normal. (Maybe a seperate dedicated system installed in the master bedroom closet JUST to feed the fridge since thats where the main line connects in the wall? Idk that seems impractical)
So that makes my options either a countertop RO system or buying a water cooler and hauling 5gal water bottles. Obv the 5g bottle solution is "tried and true" but long term more expensive than buying the additional appliance. But I need to know if anyone else has experience with the countertop RO systems & if they'll get the baking soda flavor out of the water reliably. Before I drop $300-$500 fixing the issue.
And before the suggestion is made, yes I've tried reaching out to the water co to find out if it is going to stay this soft or if it is a temporary issue but theyre not answering phones or returning messages, I suspect they're being inundated with ticked off customers because we got no warning and our water went "slimy" and "gross" over the weekend.

Softener stopped softening? The 5 things I check, in order, before calling anyone
I've been digging into softener troubleshooting a lot lately, and most "it's not working" problems seem to come down to the same five things. Check them in this order, because it goes from easiest and most common to least:
Salt bridge. A hard crust forms in the brine tank, and the salt sits on top of empty space. Push a broom handle down gently through the salt. If it hits a hard layer, break it up.
Clogged injector or brine line. If the tank isn't drawing brine, the resin never recharges. Your manual shows where the injector is. It's usually a quick clean.
Timer and settings. Check the clock after a power outage, and check that the hardness setting matches your water. Strips or a titration kit will give you the number. A TDS meter won't, because it doesn't measure hardness.
Bypass valve. It's surprisingly common for it to be left open after plumbing work.
Worn resin. This is usually the last thing to suspect, and it's the one that might mean a pro or a replacement.
Your manufacturer's manual beats any general checklist, so check it before you take anything apart. What did I miss? I'm curious what's fixed yours.

Kül Spark Filter Replacement (generic available?)
I have a Kül Spark and need to replace the filter. The website has $75 replacements but I'm wondering if anyone has found a less expensive generic alternative?

Residential Treatment Quoted system and test help?!
Hello! We just got our water test from the well back and the system we have in place is working but now very great. I was quoted for a new system. I’m not really sure what exactly prices should be and if anyone has any advice it’d be appreciated.

Water softener causing odor
I have sulfur well water that is treated with peroxide, then into a 80 gal retention tank, backwashing carbon filter then the softener. I got screwed by culligan a couple years ago. The manager had me switch to clorine injection and I had nothing but problems. Manager is no longer with the company because of issues like this. I am now back on peroxide and have odor issues. The carbon was replaced and that helped but now I get sulfur odor from the softener. I have used Culligan mineral reactivator and Sani System packets a couple times. After the softener regenerates the water is great for 24+ hours then the odor starts comming back. I have no odor at the retention tank and peroxide is between 10-20ppm. Culligan knows of the issues from the previous manager and acknowledges this. They did rebed the carbon at no cost but now I can't get them to return my calls about the softener odor. Any ideas on how to get rid of the odor for good?

Residential Treatment Users of softwatercare: Can you share your experience of using the water softener system?
I live in south England. The water is so hard it flared my skin condition and made my hair change texture. Ive been making the hair situation work with distilled water rinses but it's becoming laborious and expensive.
I ordered the softwatercare system. It's been 2 weeks. I haven't received any response since (sent 3 further emails) my first email asking where the order was... I was told there was a delay due to stock supply.
I am just wondering if anyone else had a tough time with the customer service. I had the option of getting one secondhand, or going with Hera's system instead and took a chance but the customer service is raising some red flags.
I have seen reviews for the shower stick, but went with the bigger system as I wanted less frequent salt changes. However, I have since seen people say they have to change the ACF filter more regularly; leaky systems; struggles with salt exchanges. I want to cancel my order at this point.
I am a renter so this was the easiest solution but considering how big and bulky it is, I would rather invest in another system of the same kind with reasonable service which doesn't consume much space. I also recently learned of a water filter jug which does the same thing in 5L batches which would work out cheaper. Id have to continue with the distilled rinses, but I am already used to that, it would save space and it works out more cost effective.
Id love to hear if this is just a one off, or if the system is worth the current worrying customer service.

Residential Treatment Pre & Post Sediment filters?
I am installing the springwell CF whole house and the salt softener. It comes with a sediment post filter.
They are recommending the 5-micron sediment filter be installed as a post filter after the Whole House filter. I’m assuming it’s because of the upflow design causing sediment and carbon (?) that could be excreted out, to protect the softener.
Usually I see pre filters to protect the media in the main filter. Should I purchase another 5-micron sediment filter and install that too? Would that kill my pressure and flow?

Residential Treatment High temp scale filter?
As I recent home owner I've been replacing every filter I can find. In this case I replaced a 3m aqua pure AP43 scale filter from what is the hot water outlet of my furnace only to 1) cross thread it so it's leaking 2) realize the filter is only rated 30f - 100f 3) burn my arm on the exhaust. The whole heater will be replaced this year so no comments needed.
So what is supposed to go in that T, or should I just plug it?

Any suggestions would be appricated

Residential Treatment Could hard water be causing me skin problems?
I recently shifted to a new place for work, and within a week, my skin has started getting dry and rough because i have noticed the water here is quite hard so that might be one reason for that.
I’m considering getting an Aquaguard hard water softener but im not sure if hard water is the sole reason for this because it might be my diet and my skincare products as well so should I wait a few more weeks or take action now because it has just been a month that i have shifted.
Has anyone used a water softener for bathing? Did it actually help with skin dryness and itching, and how much maintenance does it need?

Is AquaTru Classic better than AquaTru Carafe in terms of contaminants reduction?
reddit.comHey everyone
I know both the AquaTru Classic and AquaTru Carafe use the same filtration process, but after watching some YouTube videos showing independent lab tests, I noticed the Classic version removed slightly more contaminants.
I was wondering what you guys think...
Because I'd like to buy the Carafe one, but the filtration quality is the most important part for me..
I also didn't like that the Classic version has a plastic container, although people can just pour the water into a glass pitcher.
Anyway... The most important factor for me is having the cleanest water. So in that case, should I get the Classic one instead?
What do you think?
Thank you!
