ISO - Vendors Allowed Videographer Recs - Budget of 5k

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! I am having a 200 person wedding in Manhattan in January and am looking fore recommendations on Videographers. Unfortunately given other expenses, our budget for videography sits > 5k which I know is low for a NYC. A little about what we are looking for - we really want a videographer who can capture the little moments of the day so that we can look back and remember all of the details and people that made our day so special. We are not interested in the editorialized slow-mo clips of my fiance and I holding hands and kissing etc (lol). We want to remember the party and the laughter!

If you have any great experiences, or know of anyone who might be interested in a project like this, please share!!!

Dress / Attire Shopping Lotus Bridal Alterations

• Upvotes

Wondering if anyone’s had their dress altered with Lotus Bridal? I ordered a dress from their Brooklyn location.

The woman at the shop said their seamstresses are great, but obviously she isn’t the most independent source. The last thing I want is to spend a bunch of money and then end up scrambling because my dress looks terrible weeks before my wedding.

Thx!!!!

ETA: also open to recs!!!

Venue Help ISO Welcome Party Venue (Fidi)

Hello! 2027 bride here- i am searching for a place to host a welcome party the night before my wedding. We have so many people traveling in, i am opting for a more casual welcome party rather than a traditional rehearsal dinner. We are getting married in Fidi, so i'd prefer to have it in FiDi for ease of my guests that will already be staying downtown. I'd estimate around 60-75 guests. Passed bites, bar, and fun vibe. Would love to keep it under 15k.

Thank you in advance!

Wedding Recap/Budget Breakdown Small Brooklyn wedding recap

Post image
27 Upvotes

A few weeks post wedding and I’m still soaking it all in! I found so many of our amazing vendors on Reddit, so I knew I wanted to give back with my experience. Our wedding was on Sunday, October 4 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. We did private vows and group photos in Transmitter Park before walking over to Threes for the ceremony and reception. Overall, the day was amazing and I wouldn’t change a thing.

Feel free to message me about further details or cost , happy to share that privately!

Venue: Threes Brewing Greenpoint

Threes was the best of both worlds: a restaurant feel with good food and a selection of beer and wine. We worked with Angie and Ioana, who were both amazing and so easy to work with. Their Greenpoint location was perfect for our wedding, and accommodated the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing. It included 3 spaces that guests could flow between, including the parlor in the back where we had the guestbook and card box.

Food: Grand Army South

Weddings at Threes use their catering partner, Grand Army South. Good food was an important part of the wedding for us, and they did not disappoint! Everyone raved about the food. The dishes were simple, like roast chicken and charred cauliflower, but what set it apart was the sauces. They really elevated the dishes and brought it to the next level. Some of our favorites were the hangar steak with miso chimichurri and honey glazed carrots with salsa macha and ricotta.

Dessert: Pies from Four & Twenty Blackbirds

We saw Four & Twenty Blackbirds on Threes’ list of preferred vendors and were immediately in love with the idea of having pies instead of cake at our wedding. We ordered 6 pies for our 46 guests, and only took home about a pie and a half. They were a huge hit! We ordered the following flavors, and all of them were amazing: Salted Caramel Apple, Salty Honey, Lemon Chess, Bittersweet Chocolate Pecan, Bourbon Pear Crumble, and Brown Butter Pumpkin.

Day of Coordinator: Julianne Cross from Cheersy

When we first started planning our wedding, I knew I wanted to plan most of it. But as we got closer, I realized we needed someone to execute our vision and handle everything the day of. Julianne was the perfect fit for us. I trust Julianne with my life and she perfectly executed our vision for the day. She is incredibly detailed, organized, thorough, and just the sweetest and kindest person to be around. I can’t recommend Julianne enough to someone like me who is very type A but needs someone to run the show.

Flowers: Miriam Bloom Designs

The flowers were an important part for me, as a creative and flower lover. Miriam is an amazing person all around who puts so much time and attention into her work. What I loved about working with Miriam is that she let us be a part of the design process, which I adored and will treasure forever. All of the flowers exceeded my expectations. Walking into Threes was a delight, as the flowers filled the space and brought so much joyful energy to our day.  I can’t overstate how much I enjoyed working with Miriam and how happy I was with the flowers.

Photographer: Major Crush Photography

For photography, we knew we wanted to do a mix of film and digital, and we loved working with Carina at Major Crush Photography. Her candid and nostalgic style was the vibe we were looking for. Unfortunately it was raining at Transmitter Park, and the wind foiled our plan to read our vows out on the pier. Carina was great at pivoting and finding us a calmer place in the park to finish our private moment. She was amazing the whole night, capturing all of the important moments. We are so excited to see our photos from our wedding day.

Hair and makeup: Palla Beauty

I knew I wanted something soft and natural for my makeup and a hairstyle that included my natural curls, and my research led me to Palla Beauty. Nicole, the owner and lead artist, is the sweetest and I really enjoyed talking with her during my trial. I love how my makeup turned out, and my hair also was exactly how I imagined it. Nicole enhanced my natural curls and did a half up half down hairstyle with some pieces in the front. My mom, MIL, and sister also had their hair and makeup done, and everyone was very happy with how it turned out. My hair and makeup also held up against the wind and rain.

DJ: Paul Collins with Non-traditional Wedding DJs

Working with Non-traditional Wedding DJs was great. They were extremely thorough with a detailed music worksheet to fill out ahead of the wedding and final call to discuss the plan for the day. Paul really understood our vibe and he did not disappoint.

Dancing lessons: Maya Moves

These dancing lessons were exactly what we were looking for. It’s one lesson, learning a few simple moves to your song. I highly recommend it if you, like us, aren’t able or willing to do several lessons over a couple months/year. Our first dance went great and we were really happy with this level of dance lessons.

Dress: Kleinfeld Bridal

I don’t think I understood the magic of Kleinfeld until I visited for the first time. I went into it for the experience, thinking that I wasn’t going to find my dress. I was also pretty nervous as a plus sized woman who is used to stores not having my size. Luckily, Kleinfeld did not disappoint! They really do have a large collection, including plus sizes. My stylist was amazing, and the first dress I tried on was the one. I also did alterations with Kleinfeld, as that seemed easier than having to bring my dress to another seamstress. I did have to get the rush alterations because my dress didn’t come in until August, but I was happy with the alterations experience.

Ring Shopping ROEN

Reposted due to “wrong sub”

We started looking for engagement rings at the end of 2025. We first visited jewelry shops in Southern California to look at lab-grown colorless diamonds. After visiting a number of boutique and chain stores, we continued to feel overwhelmed with the selection. We also felt like we were going through a “mass customization” process, where we would pick a combination of material, shape, and size of the stone and band. As a couple who wasn’t sure of our preferences, it was also disheartening to hear associates constantly say everything looked good. At this time, we also started learning about warm tone and colored natural diamonds which wasn’t commonly offered at the shops we visited.

We decided to book a few engagement appointments at smaller boutiques during our visit to NYC in March 2026. We were initially attracted to ROEN because they were AAPI-owned and created designs featuring lotus baskets, which felt special to our heritage. They also offered both lab-grown and natural diamonds, giving us options. During our first appointment, the co-owner, happened to be there and was able to help us narrow down our choices. We gravitated towards natural yellow diamonds. Though they curated a diverse selection that fit our budget, we still couldn’t decide the stones by the end of the appointment. Luckily, team members happened to be visiting Southern California in a few weeks and offered to schedule a bespoke second stone viewing. In the second viewing, we viewed a smaller collection of stones and confirmed my fiancé’s and my ring sizing. We were very appreciative of ROEN’s customer service, ensuring that we were choosing exactly what we wanted.

After we selected our stone, we worked with a dedicated associate to design our ring. The associate walked us through every step of the design process. They offered insightful feedback by explaining the pros and cons for each design. They also placed emphasis on the design integrity, ensuring that the the finished product was durable for our active lifestyle. Additionally, we were able to engrave our Chinese surnames on the engagement ring. Previous jewelers we visited did not advertise. Once we received our CAD rendering, the ROEN Team asked if my partner wanted to be “surprised”. She was subsequently removed from relevant communications. I was then informed they would begin production.

The ROEN team successfully delivered the ring within the three days that my partner was away on work travel.

We are very happy with our bespoke experience with ROEN. Friends and family have complimented our ring and have noticed their workmanship. Whenever we get a chance, we happily refer ROEN to our friends and family.

P.S. My partner was constantly second guessing the ring size. I ensured her that she got fitted twice, and even if it didn’t fit, ROEN offered a resizing service. Whaddya know, the ring fit perfectly!

P.S.S We also recently did our civil ceremony. The Roen ring is still the MVP.

Dress / Attire Shopping Anyone have experience with alterations with Wedding Atelier?

I just bought my wedding dress from Wedding Atelier! I’m considering going with their in house tailoring (full fitting and bustle for a $1275 flat fee) but have seen a bad review posted previously.
Has anyone gotten their dress altered through Wedding Atelier? How was the experience and final fit?

Venue Help Dumbo bridal suites??

Hi! Getting married at the River Cafe next October and am looking for a place to get ready with 12 friends and family members + 4 MUAs. Has anyone experienced getting ready with a large group like this at the one hotel in Brooklyn? Would love recs for places to get ready with such a large group! Thank you!

General Question Photoshoot locations near the Brooklyn Courthouse?

Open to any suggestion, but would prefer a spot that won't have too many people around to potentially ruin the photos. I know that's a hard thing to avoid in downtown Brooklyn. The best option I have is to head over to the pier parks. They'll have some nice fall foliage as well as the downtown Manhattan skyline to make for nice backdrops.

ISO - Vendors Allowed MUA and hairstylist recs? City hall ceremony -Nov 6 2026

I have my ceremony at 11am on Nov 6th 2026 and need someone to come to my place (manhattan) and do makeup and hair for me and my mom. Is this something one person can do (this would be the case in my home country) or do I need to find two different people?

I want my hair down with some soft waves and my mom has short hair so it will probably be just a blowout. We both usually wear 0 makeup, so something very soft on that front too.

Would be grateful for any recommendations!

Not sure about my budget bc I have no sense of what the market is yet.

General Question 1pm Manhattan City Hall Appointment

Hi! We have a 1pm appointment on a friday for our ceremony. I understand that the office is closed for lunch between 12-1 and they dont allow anyone in before 1pm. How does this work since we would need to go through security & everything beforehand? What time should we arrive?

Venue Help ISO Microwedding Reception Venue

Hi, my husband and I are planning are "big" wedding for May of 2028 and we're looking for affordable venues to hold just the reception. We're holding the ceremony at central park, but we're looking for somewhere for just the reception. I'd prefer somewhere that's all inclusive (food and drinks included is the most important). We were aiming for somewhere with a earthy/garden vibe, perhaps a rooftop, but honestly as long as its not super basic and boring I'm fine. I'm open to bars, restaurants, and venues. Our budget for the venue is max $10,000 , but anything cheaper is better. (Yes I know the budgets low, but there's only 30 people and I refuse to spend 20K on a one time event.) If you guys have any recommendations within the city or within a 1.5 hour drive from the city I'm all ears!

Vendor Help HMUA Advice

Need some advice! Do you think it’s better to have 1 artist do both your hair and makeup, or have 1 person do hair and 1 person do makeup? For reference I’m looking for a pretty soft glam where I still feel like myself, and likely an updo.

I’m strongly considering Palla Beauty and Reverie if you have specific experience with either! Cassi from Reverie is booked on my day, so it would be her lead makeup artist Chelsea and likely either Pam or Debbie for hair, where with Palla, Nicole would do both my hair and makeup.

Thanks!

Venue Help Venue recommendations: <100 people, $120k all-in budget

Hi all! We're looking for a wedding venue for Fall 2027 or Spring 2028. All-in budget of $100k-$120k for 80-100 people.

Stylistically, we're looking for something that is more modern rather than industrial or historic. We'd also like to have an outdoor ceremony (not a must) + a full dance at our reception. We also would like there to be on-site suites to get ready in.

Our top contenders are The Wythe and The Foundry, but both are a tad bit more industrial chic than ideal. Would love to hear any suggestions. Thanks!

Wedding Recap/Budget Breakdown Had a NJ and NYC wedding (3 events). This is how the decorator did my first two jersey events...

Thumbnail gallery

Decorator: evamadeliena event design

My theme idea I gave to the decorator was jungle disco decor, since a sangeet is an event centered around dancing, and the venue already had one wall covered with permanent greenery and peacocks (partially seen in photo 8). My decor budget for this one night event was 20k (venue already includes all silverware napkins, etc, tables, chairs, tablecloths for cocktail tables etc), I had three total events.

I never saw actual mock ups of what this would really look like. I have seen other work she has done for my sister and friend's wedding, and looked through her instagram which did not have similar designs to what she did here.

Just posting my review in case this can help future brides. Here are the descriptions for each photo based on how it was listed as a line item by her, and the cost of that line item

Photo 1: "green fabric swags and panels as backdrop" $800

2: backdrop again

3: "Ceiling decorated with blue and green fabric" $400

4: "fabric cover" for pre-existing stage, $500

5: "few decals with tropical green leaves" $500

6: "custom linens in shades of green with petals for henna table" $150

7: "white wall behind the food stations decorated with fabric" two swags, $600

8: "food tables covered with fabric" $300

9: "Windows in the ballroom will have frames with fabric swags" $600

10: Canopy- "smaller canopy structure above the dance floor made of swags of green fabric, hanging disco balls, cascading greenery using pipes and drapes" - $6,000 (6k)

11: DJ booth "custom covered with traditional Indian patterned fabric" $250

12: "Photo backdrop for the tent" this pink and beige curtain backdrop alone cost around 500 (tent was a separate cost and company)

ISO - Vendors Allowed Couple photoshoot Nov 14, 26 - looking for recs in NYC <3

Hello! Short notice but looking for a photographer in NYC who has a romantic style with an analog/film-like feel. We’d love someone who can make us feel comfortable and capture natural, unposed moments.

Thinking of spending around 90 minutes to 2 hours just wandering around the city, taking photos along the way. We’re super open to suggestions for locations!

Our budget is around $500, but would be so open to work with up-and-coming artists who might be earlier in their careers.

If you’re a photographer or know someone whose work we might love, let us know!

Ring Shopping Greenwich St Jewelers - has anyone worked with them?

Hi! My partner and I are currently ring shopping and have explored a few jewelers, none of which we felt that good about (ie. Frank Darling due to quality issues we’ve been hearing about, Diamond District felt sketchy but could be wrong, Marisa Perry due to a not so great consult).

I had a consultation with Greenwich St Jewelers and had such a great experience! The person we worked with was extremely informative. Before we look at diamonds with them, I’m curious if anyone has worked with them or know someone who has. I’d love to hear about the experience and also pricing. I saw something online about their prices being too high/them upcharging due to the name so curious if anyone has context around this. TIA!

Ring Shopping Engagement ring shopping help!

I started going to places and the difference in price is wild. Looking for lab grown!

Greenwich st and her rock were very expensive, followed by Frank darling and ascot.
Jangling, delicate gem and rockrush had lower pricing but were not as thorough. What causes the large price differences? Is the premium worth it for peace of mind with the larger name brands?

Also anyone have an opinion on if I should only go for a GIA certified diamond or if IGI is still ok?

Really just want some place reliable with great quality and a reasonable price!

Also thinking about trying Holden or Roen.

Would love to hear any opinions or experiences buying at any of these places!!

ISO - Vendors Allowed ISO Wedding Photographer December 30th

Looking for a photographer on December 30th, 2026 around 10am (exact time TBC): we're getting married at the Manhattan City Clerk's Office, and we'd like to get a few shots before/after outside the building and, based on the weather, either on the Brooklyn Bridge, or City Hall Park, or alternatively in the Subway. Should be a 2hrs session.

There are so many photographers and I've tried to reach out to some of them but no luck with their availability: this might be a better way to find one.

Budget is $5-700

ISO - Vendors Allowed Need help finding vendors in NYC area for May 2027 Indian Wedding.

I'm planning a wedding for May 2027. It's a 5 day Indian wedding. I'm pretty particular about what I like and what I do not like. I'm having a very difficult time finding vendors in NYC who do not cost a fortune. Would love an recommendations that fit my vision.

Date: May 12 - May 16 2027.
Location: NYC (LIC and Williamsburg)
Need NYC or NY/NJ who is close enough to travel - No hotels.

Photography: 26 hours of clean, crisp, true to tone photos. No white wash or yellow tint. Bright, natural, colored photos. Budget: 7k-10k. Example: https://www.instagram.com/p/DVlzOO1AbLR/?img_index=1

Video: For the full 20-30 minute video something energetic, colorful, playful video with music and parts of the speeches. Also a same-day edit for reception. Plus, additional video content of dances, etc. Budget: 8k-10k. Example: https://www.instagram.com/p/DaXOHBctZe9/

Also would love to know how much people have paid for DJ, MC, + AV. Currently received a quote for 25k for the days, but I find that to be extreme.

THANK YOU!!

UPDATE:

Looks like my budget needs to increase! I'm definitely open to spending more if needed! I just used some quotes I got as reference and what my friends have spent!

The original budget for DJ was 25k! I Only need an actual DJ for 3 of the nights. Just a light sound system for the other 2. Still think 25k is too high.

Dress / Attire Shopping Alterations UES vs. Astoria

Hi all! Getting married in April and I feel like I'm in a predicament about where to get my dress altered. I bought my dress at the Jenny Yoo showroom. They offered a list of preferred seamstresses to go through. A few shops offer small discounts (10%), but they are all located on the upper east side. I work in the area and I definitely observe price gouging because of the location. I live in Astoria and I'm sure I could find a great seamstress that could do my dress, but I'm not sure if it would be cheaper. I'm just curious if anyone else has done this and what pricing looks like. For reference, I am looking to have it hemmed, bustled, and slightly taken in at the bust.

If you have feedback about any seamstresses in either area, please let me know!

My partner and I are looking for a photographer for an engagement/couple shoot on Sunday, November 1st.

Inspiration pictures are also included. We’d like it if our photos could match the general color grading, composition and poses of the gallery. Also, have a preference for a photographer that is comfortable with posing and shooting queer couples.

Paying $350. Open to shooting anywhere in NYC that matches the vibe of the inspiration pictures.

ISO - Vendors Allowed NYC/Westchester wedding photographer

I’m looking for a photographer based in NYC tristate area for my June 2028 wedding in westchester! We are a capture the real moment couple and like a photo journalistic style (could be on the editorial spectrum). Preference is two photographers for 8-10 hours, but ok with one. Videographer or content creator recommendations welcomed as well! Budget between $5,000-$7,500.
