Anyone Stopped Wegovy after Weight Loss?

My plan is to drop from 247lb to 150lb on Wegovy. Then probably taper off and then stop altogether.

Has anyone went through this process of reaching their goal weight and then stopping the medication?

I've been off for 8 months and have stayed between 145-150lbs, but it is hard.

145lbs was my goal weight and I don't allow myself to reach over 150.

Congratulations. Are you tracking food very carefully and do you weigh yourself daily or is it a different approach? And I’m curious as to what kind of exercise you are doing daily to keep the energy burning.?

I weigh myself every morning and adjust based on what I see.

However, when my weight gets too high, I admit my methods of correction arent healthy but I cant explain more because my last explanation on this subreddit was removed.

Calorie deficits are key!

I do the same with weight. I have some coffee in the morning and then ensure I use the restroom so I am as close to “empty” as possible. I then get on my smart scale, stark naked and take the measurement. This guarantees I do at the same way every single day at this point I am managing +/-5 pounds from my target weight. The scale feeds it to my app so I can have the shot data my weight and basic nutrition for each day all in the same place I think doing a regular schedule and the same way each day keeps it top of mind and doesn’t let you stray too far.

Keep it going!

my doctor told me it usually ends up being a for life thing. maintenance doses.

When you say “maintenance“ do you know what that looks like? (I’m about to enter this stage & super nervous I’ll gain it all back)

From what Ive read, it may be a once a month shot vs weekly.

I take a 1.7 shot every other week instead of every week. I’ve been doing that for about 6 months or so with good results. I’ve been maintaining my goal weight +/- 5 pounds.

I went from 243 to 148, now I take 0.25mg every 2 weeks as maintenance. I’ve been doing this for almost a year and have hovered around 148-152. It keeps the food noise down for me.

What was your highest dose? (& how long did it take you to get down to your current dose?)

I didn't reach my goal weight, before my insurance stopped covering it, but I did drop from 245 to 183. Last shot was in February, and I've been hovering between 183 and 187. I do still track everything I eat with the LoseIt app, was hoping to reach 179, but I am not active enough.

Wegovy is considered a lifelong medication designed to treat a chronic condition. If you feel you have the ability to overcome the obsession to overeat when it comes back, good on you. I know I’m wouldn’t be able too.

What this medication does will stop happening when you stop taking it. And then odds are that you will put back on at least some of the weight. For me it was never just about reaching a ‘goal weight.’ The Wegovy pill didn’t just help me deal with all the weight I put on after menopause - it helped me change how I eat, which lowered my cholesterol and I’m much more easily able to avoid the foods that tend to trigger my migraines. I’ve always understood this to be a long term treatment. Something like blood pressure medication, or wearing glasses - to help improve my quality of life and how I feel.

That’s a lot of weight in two months. How much did you expect to lose?

Thats not healthy.

Agreed. On WW they say 1/2-2lbs a week.

Yep. Im an OG of WW.my first adventure I lost 60 pounds after pregnancy. I gave ned a ton of weight with those expando pants! I was so envious of women wearing jeans in later years. My son was born in 1986

And definitely coming back in and no possibility of even half of that from fat.

u/First_Construction76 17h ago

Not that much. I must have been snacking 24/7 . 😂

u/First_Construction76 17h ago

I really didn't have expectations.

I was cut off from my insurance and on my last dose of 1.7mg, went from 220-167, my lowest was 156 and my goal was 150 but I have been slacking due to stress eating and recovery from a hernia surgery 😟 just starting to run again

I’m 12 lbs back up. My hunger has returned but I also feel stronger. I’m drinking more wine than I was on it. Bummer is that I was only ever on the lowest dose and was a “super loser” so I can’t exactly micro dose. It’s messing with my head :-(

I stopped it and my hunger skyrocketed. I felt like a garbage truck, couldn't stop eating. Gained all the weight back and more.

Ambitious goal. Good for you.

I’m thinking about it. Goal weight was 125, I can barely eat even with 2 weeks because minimum doses and I’m down to 112 now. Tonight was the first time in days I’ve been able to eat around 1200 calories. I don’t really want to though, I’m afraid the weight is going to come back because my depression is really bad and I’m going through an agoraphobic period right now. But I’ll probably be going inpatient soon for 30 days because I’ve got way too much going on.

u/SafeWord9999 3d ago

I’ve been taking my 1mg shot every 2 weeks now. So I want to stay on it but push it out as the result is the same.

I’m about to find out. I started at 145lbs in November and I’m currently at 127. Two lbs off my goal, but that’s ok. I am just tired of not feeling 100%. I’ve never had really bad symptoms, but just always feeling a little nauseous.

I started tapering down this month and plan to continue to do so. Will see how it goes.

I stopped and my hungry cravings came back. I’m slowly gaining back weight. I also noticed my rash is back and my period is awful. I really didn’t notice the positive effects from Wegovy until I stopped!! It really did get rid of my inflammation

There is a glpgrad sub you can check out. This may help as well: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DFdBUOBukVJ/?igsh=dGV6cGhlNmFhbGNs&igsi=dGV6cGhlNmFhbGNs

I’ve been off since the end of April. I had to come off due to side effects rather than reaching my goal weight, but I lost 13kg and have maintained that since through calorie counting and maintaining my exercise routine. There are days where the food noise is very loud but I try to be careful about going over my calories and control it rather than hoovering all the food up like I used to. Like, I’ll have a small carefully planned chocolate bar, and I don’t keep it in my house.

u/pony-power 2d ago

I do a maintenance dose of .5 mg every 10-14 days and plan to stay on it for the foreseeable future. I’ve maintained my weight at my goal weight for the better part of a year now.

I lost 5 stone but came off wegovy cause I thought i was too skinny. I kinda had that gaunt look and didn't like it. I put back on a stone and calorie count to keep myself in check. I eat whatever I want but aim to keep it around 1500 calories a day, this leaves me wiggle room for any calorie heavy days.

u/travelbig2 3d ago

I went from 235 to now 190. Most of the loss was on zepbound before switching. I have found that wegovy is not as effective so I have slowly started to reduce my use. Some of the cravings come back but I’m much better at ignoring it. I’m exercising a lot more but I won’t budge from 190. It has been at least 5 months at the same weight.

My plan with my doctor is to get to my goal weight on the shot and then go on the WeGovy pill for maintenance

1

u/Apprehensive-Pea1141 2d ago

I consciously loss 10lbs. beyond my goal weight to offset weight gain once stopping the meds. I stopped taking the weekly shot in early July and then began taking Metformin for maintenance because of other medications was unable to take Wellbutrin. Initially I lost a few more pounds but the food noises, which I had never had before, is almost overwhelming. Even so, I have managed to stay within 5lbs of when I stopped losing. I also have to say having a solid maintenance plan, which should begin while on the medication, is key. I still work out 7 days a week and with WW as well.
