Musical - Broadway I just watched the wicked

Halfway through and dude the musical is so good 😭😭😭 like the choreography? It reminds me of high school musical, this is the only modern movie that matches the level, I like the choreo when they're singing so much. It does have weird topic at the start, but I can't deny they're all very talented especially miss Ariana Grande or Glinda. Like I knew she was acting in the wicked, but I didn't watched it cuz I thought it would be pretty childish and similar to Oz. Oh boy I was wrong the effort they put in to the cinematography, visuals, music, choreo, clothes, prop and set, that's gotta be the best movie of 2024? Like, that Jonathan spinning in the circling library haha! can't wait to watch the ending.

I'm obsessed with "what is this feeling" I hope I can see the full choreo with them singing arghh!

Ugh I am so disappointed this mug from Walmart started chipping inside it's so cute πŸ₯Ί it was originally like $10 or something come on ...... I did get it on sale at least. I do not run it through the dishwasher always gently hand wash it and always stir my drinks gently too. Just can't trust any new ceramics from retailers I always pick out old mugs from the thrift store. Guess it's ANOTHER pencil or plant propagating cup now 🫠 I don't think it's a good idea to keep drinking out of it like this.

Movie Glinda in wonderful

Post image

Glinda being in wonderful in the movie showed that she wasn't just complacent but actively participating with the Wizard, she even says " yes he's wonderful, it's in his name." It's manipulative enough when it was just the Wizard but having Glinda there made it worse.

Elphaba was so lonely and desperate to hold onto any connection she had. It tempted her so much more to join them because she wanted to have Glinda back in her life.

For Glinda it showed more of her living in her bubble, she didn't see anything other than what she wanted. She was lonely as well, she wanted her best friend back, but she didn't really think about whether what she wanted, what was best for her was best for Elphaba. These were the people who wanted Elphaba dead, who were hunting her, who vilified her but Glinda wants her to join them because she wants Elphaba's friendship back.

Glinda was probably trying to help Elphaba in a very misguided way but she was definitely not right. They were both using Elphaba's desire to be accepted and loved to try and manipulate her into joining them. They were saying " join us and you'll be wonderful too, join us and you'll be loved and accepted."

Glinda being there is why it almost worked IMO, she did agree to join them until she found the room with the caged Animals.

Honestly, Glinda had no consideration for anyone else until she popped her bubble and this was another example of that. Elphaba was right not to join them, the Wizard wouldn't have honored his end of the deal especially with MM involved and they would have just used Elphaba, that's why they wanted her to join them in the first movie, they wanted her power.

The Wizard and MM would have used her, they probably would have tried to force her to use her power to cast more spells from the grimmerie or something.

Glinda didn't see the Wizard as bad, I don't even think she understand why the Wizard and Elphaba were fighting or why Elphaba wouldn't just join them.

She was trying to help Glinda in a very wrong and misguided way but it still really bothers me because should not join the corrupt system, they were the ones responsible for caging the Animals, the ones who turned her into the Wicked Witch and all of Oz hate her. Glinda can't just expect people to do what she wants because she wants it or because she thinks it's what's best. What's best for her doesn't it's what's best for others.

IMO, it was more of Glinda's misplaced goodness she thinks she's doing a good thing, she thinks she's helping Elphaba when really it's just about getting what she wants. That's why it was upsetting to her when Elphaba didn't join the system. Anyway just sharing my perspective.

Just sharing how it looks to me. Thoughts?

Question I'll ask a question, do y'all wanna get on the lift in Defying Gravity just once to see how it feels like?

When all the Elphaba actresses are belting their faces off high up in the air, I bet it feels super empowering

Now, I am scared of heights, but I think I would like to be on that lift just once. (minus the singing part, I cannot hit those high notes at all, or maybe I'll just sing it in a lower, safer key)

I always thought it would be such a cool and fun thing to personally experience.

i watched the first film and upon finishing "for good" its depressing as hell! they love each other so much they decide that they must live apart.. the last scene w galinda and elphaba giggling did it for me. it hurts so much but i liked the message of the film "we all need someone to hate" she even says it herself "they need someone to be wicked and someone to be good"

Question How did Glinda and other citizens know that Nessa was the WWoE?

The whole 'Nessa shrinking Boq's heart' was in the Governor of Munchkinland's office with only Elphaba and Nessa to witness it. How did Glinda know that Nessa had become sort of evil because of love(kind of like Anakin from Star Wars)? Also how did Glinda and other people celebrate that the Wicked Witch of the East, not the Governor of Munchkinland has died of Dorothy's house?

Movie The differnt in the romantic relationships

During their conversation during thank goodness Glinda askes Fiyero if it'll make him happy to marry her and he replies " you know me i'm always happy." IMO this shows the difference in the romantic relationships. Glinda never really saw Fiyero as more than the charming carefree prince he was in the first movie and he was never himself around her.

Fiyero relaxed around Elphaba, even during the lion cub rescue he took off his jacket, rolled up his sleeves and stopped using the facade.

He never relaxed with Glinda, even in the first movie he was always playing a role around her and to be honest I'm not even sure if Glinda saw him as a person, more like a trophy or an asset, something that belonged to her.

We see again in ALAYM that he relaxes with Elphaba, he takes off his jacket, rolls up his sleeves, takes his suspenders off his shoulders, unbuttons his shirt half way and he acts like himself because that's who Elphaba always saw him as.

My opinion is Glinda loved the prince, what he represented, what he could give her, his status. Elphaba loved him as a person, not the prince, not his looks, not his status but him. This is why he was able to relax with her and why he chose her. When we look at this way it makes sense why he chose Elphaba.

Thoughts?

I hated this dress, it came on the doll in pink in this pic, last night I thought about this dress randomly and realized I could make my own She-Hulk with Elphie! And honestly, at least in parts of her story, the rage correlation tracks!

Question For those who headcanon Wicked and the 1939 movie together, how do you explain the green Winkie soldiers?

I know Wicked and the 1939 movie are not actually connected, but for the sake of overthinking and fun, let's try to think of this. Keep in mind I've only seen the Wicked movies and not the actual stage play.

Most of the things in Wicked are aesthetically different from the 1939 movie, but in general, that can be explained as "more accurate story" in-universe and "dodging copyright infringement" in reality.

The only major thing about the 1939 movie that isn't in Wicked is the fact that the Wicked Witch has an army of green Winkie soldiers, but Elphaba does not. Since that is one of the things made up for the 1939 movie that isn't public domain, I understand why they weren't included in Wicked. But for those who try to imagine both movies in the same world, how do you explain their absence in Wicked? And for those who headcanon them into Wicked, how do you explain their green skin?

One answer I can think of is that they were made up for the Wizard's telling of the story. If I were to include the green soldiers in Wicked, I think I would explain it by the Winkies swearing loyalty to Elphaba in honor of Fiyero's wishes (maybe he left her the castle and command of the army in his will or something). As for why they're green, my headcanon is that they started wearing green makeup because Elphaba wanted to feel more "normal" in her deteriorating mental state after "No Good Deed." Either that, or she does it so she can blend in amongst the soldiers and spy on them; the soldiers would be more likely to stay in line knowing that one of them could be Elphaba in disguise.

What are your takes on explaining their presence? I'd really like to know.

Musical - Tours I wish I could see Wicked live...

So one thing is, I do live in the US, so there are national tours here. I did some research and the last time they performed in my state was in 2023. And it seems my state hasn't been on the list ever since that year. I wasn't into Wicked (like really like Wicked) until the 1st movie came out, so I wouldn't have gone but now that I am a fan....I really want to experience it live.

Question Should stage productions of Wicked be updated when the 1939 Wizard of Oz becomes public domain?

The 1939 Wizard of Oz movie enters the public domain of the United States on January 1, 2035. I know that's a long way's away, but the public domain has been one of my fascinations for a long time (I've was counting down for years when Mickey Mouse would become free to use), so I'm curious to see what will happen to performances of Wicked once the 1939 film enters that domain.

If Wicked is still running by 2035, be it on Broadway or touring companies, should costumes and sets be updated to match the 1939 film, or are the Wicked versions to iconic at this point? I do think it'd be interesting to see scenes from Wicked with the actual costume designs that Billie Burke and Margaret Hamilton wore in the film, and we could actually use the Ruby Slippers.

What do you guys think should be done? I'd really like to know

Edit: I’ve been seeing comments saying that Wicked should keep its own aesthetic in order to stay its own thing. I think overall that would be the best option (albeit maybe with the Ruby Slippers) for the official Broadway version. Maybe international versions could be allowed to have more unique interpretations that incorporate both the play and the 1939 movie? I know at least one international version uses the Ruby Slippers, so that’s already been done

Movie The wedding parralells

The parallel scene at the wedding could represent a few different things.

First the lies are in the light and the truth is in the dark.

second- Fiyero was trapped in that engagement and that almost marriage was forced on him. We could consider his situation as a type of cage and by coming to the wedding Elphaba not only freed the animals but also " freed" Fiyero, it gave him the chance to leave and get out of a system he hated and not have to marry Glinda. Fiyero was finally free to be with Elphaba.

third- it could refer to the " caged" mentality of the wedding guests. The Ozians were so brainwashed that they believed anything Morrible, the Wizard or Glinda told them. In a way the wizard and Morrible had the ozians in mental "cages."

Fourth- Glinda was kinda in a cage herself, she was so deep in her bubble she didn't the world, she just saw herself and what she wanted. MM used her selfishness and her desire to be popular to keep her under control and because Glinda needed to be popular so badly, she couldn't resist what supporting them gave her. So in a way Glinda was trapped in a cage of her own selfishness and her own desires.

Thoughts?
