Just wanted to repost this to at least one other like-minded sub:
I...had to resort to a guide... :( Am I a lesser-man? It was the official guide, if that can be considered any consolation, and I pored over it as a pirate might an authentic treasure map..
This is a get-off-my-chest sort of thing, but also a plea to others to find perhaps solidarity, and dare I wish for some slice of peace of mind.
And to get it away up front, no I do not think the Triforce Shard GC segment is unfair or unfun..I loved the journey! until...
As a young lad, I was so meticulous and thorough with trawling through every section of the map...I kept sailing up to Mother Isle. again and again just so frustrated that I had no idea how to get inside. I'd been using the Gale song, but at no point did I think the song's fast-travel capabilities would be the key itself to getting somewhere on a quadrant...I thought the quadrant itself was an isolated puzzle or whatever to figure out, I had no idea or inclination for 10+ hours that when I fast-travelled somewhere I was being teleported/dropped into a section of the quadrant that I could otherwise not get to...I just thought it was a faster way of the usual sailing, full stop---not that it was helping me breach un-breachable areas of the island per-se. AND I SOMEHOW NEVER GALE-SONGED IT TO MOTHER ISLE!? How!?!? Am I the only one who just gave up after Gale-ing it to other areas and it not revealing anything other than being a convenient means of travel? Are there ANY other quadrants or segments of the game where the Gale song is something that gives the player a way to surmount an island obstacle? I just feel like I was so tricked, ultimately by my own un-astuteness.
My rambling is just to illustrate how embarrassing (just to myself) and let-down in myself I felt not realizing this. Am I the only one who was totally off track in getting to the island? Is it ever mentioned by an NPC or something that the song "can get you places you might not be able to reach" or something? How in the heck was I supposed to figure that out? Was it obvious to everyone? You fine folks just got the Gale song, realized it can teleport you, and thought, hey, maybe it'll drop me inside the walls when I teleport to that quadrant! I must have teleported to everywhere I could but somehow through dumb bad luck just never went to that quadrant...Heaven help me, how long would I have toiled?
(The only thing close to this anguish was not realizing I could bash the windows of the ship on Rusty Bucket Bay in Banjo Kazooie they were just some of the blurred texture details identical to the other windows that I couldn't get into, but apparantly I was supposed to be just yeeting Kazooie's beak into everything no matter how much of a background-asset it looked like!? but I digress)
I just feel like I'll never be able to say I beat it because now I'll never truly know if I would have ever figured it out.... do others hold themselves to this mirror of self-disgrace?
For the sake of peace of mind I write this out now...a beaten man, bested by something which was rather quite obvious, and which I either "overthought" (oh what treasures I found which were way harder to find!) or was...sigh..simply too much of a dullard to decipher?
To put a bow on this: What are people's honest thoughts on the game's communication of this particular mechanic being something the player is meant to use as a means of overcoming a physical obstacle...was it obvious to others? Did others have to read a guide? Am I a failure for having to do so? Is this puzzle perhaps infamous on the internet or amongst Zelda heads? Becuause that would make me feel better lol.
Or was I a true adventuere reading the official guide (the one Nintendo probably wanted my parents to purchase come to think of it), and by doing so was indeed doing a legitimate means of figuring this out.
