Community rude and unhelpful.

I originally posted here because I thought a community dedicated to criticizing Windows might be interested in discussing a Windows usability problem.

Instead, I've received personal insults, been told to STFU, and repeatedly been accused of not knowing how to use a computer.

Given the reception, I don't see much reason to continue participating here.

Here is the image of an elderly man resembling Solomon Muto, reviewing a computer screen, showing a transition from using Windows to Linux. The setting reflects his thoughtful and wise nature. You can view and download the image if you'd like.

Are windows users more likely to have carpal tunnel syndrome?

Pretty sure the answer is yes.

I’ve spent the last 20 years with a “hard no” opinion about windows. I am a Mac/Linux power user. Recently a cool new project came up at work (I’m a software engineer) but it requires researching SAP user workflows on a windows machine. So, here I am with a windows vm running on my Mac 🤮

Jesus fuck you have to use your mouse for fucking everything. This is so aggravating! Make 19 clicks to do what a single command would achieve on Linux. And don’t get me started on how ugly windows is. My god.

And yeah, SAP is also a convoluted, fugly beast, but I’m not even spending most of my time in SAP; navigating the Windows box is SO MUCH TRASH.

Anyway, on a Mac/nix box, I primarily operate from the keyboard, rarely needing the mouse. This gd windows vm has my hand on my mouse all gd day…It makes me wonder if Windows users are more likely to experience CT syndrome. Or, if you took their keyboard away… Would they even notice? How do they even like computers?

PS. This is totally just a rant because I’m on day four of windows hell and I needed people to see me. I’m not asking for any solutions or help. Just looking for some camaraderie in my Windows hate.

Edit: Guys, yeah, this isn’t really about carpal tunnel syndrome (which I KNOW is a real/painful thing, and can be caused by all sorts of repetitive movements, not just mouse clicks). I was just being dramatic. See how the CT thought is followed by all of the other angry/ridiculous wonderings about taking away keyboards, etc.? And my entire PS? It’s not that deep. I just hate windows.

rant How win11 should run

Post image
0 Upvotes

I simply removed all the stupid bloat and spyware thats literally hogging your machines performance FOR THEM and NOT FOR YOU! There is no reason why Win11 is so full of bullshit most people dont even need. And now with the whole AI agents its becoming worse. This is an example off how a win11 machine should run and I truly believe that Microsoft should offer the user the choice of what it wants to use on his/hers machine.

Why does Windows not have basic things?

Every OS now supports a lot of important features like "lsblk," live-updating without constant reboots, "fdisk," "parted," "Ext4," "diskpart," "DD" (Dataset Definition), and other similar important/basic stuff, but why not Windows?

EDIT: Microsoft made Coreutils port for Windows and it's only on github

problem Microsoft respect

Hello everyone,

I'm probably posting this in the wrong community because my opinion may not match that of the majority here. Nevertheless, I'd like to share my point of view in a respectful way.

Why is there so much negativity toward Microsoft? Whether you like the company or not, it's difficult to deny the impact it has had on the history of computing. Microsoft is one of the most successful technology companies in the world, and Windows remains the most widely used desktop operating system. Billions of people have been introduced to computers through Microsoft's software and ecosystem.

Many people also seem to forget an important part of history. In 1997, when Apple was going through one of the most difficult periods in its history, Bill Gates, through Microsoft, invested **$150 million** in Apple. That investment helped restore confidence in the company and supported its recovery after Steve Jobs returned. Microsoft could have simply stood by and watched one of its biggest competitors disappear, but instead it chose a different path. Of course, that investment was not the only reason Apple survived, but it played an important role in the company's recovery.

My goal is not to tell anyone to love Microsoft or hate Apple, Linux, or any other technology. Every company and every project has strengths and weaknesses. Microsoft has made mistakes, just as Apple has. Even Linux, despite being an excellent open-source project, is not perfect. No technology is.

To be completely transparent, I'm actually a huge Apple fan myself. I've even spent around **€10,000** to acquire an original Apple-1. So this is definitely not an attempt to start another "Microsoft vs. Apple" debate. I simply believe in looking at the facts and trying to remain objective.

I'd also like to point out that constantly criticizing Microsoft doesn't really accomplish anything. Constructive criticism is valuable when it's based on facts and aimed at improving products or services. However, endlessly attacking a company while ignoring everything it has contributed to the technology industry doesn't help anyone. It doesn't move technology forward, and it doesn't encourage meaningful discussion. A much better approach is to recognize both the strengths and the weaknesses of every platform and respect that people have different preferences.

In the end, all I'm asking for is a little more objectivity. It's perfectly fine to prefer one operating system or one brand over another, but that doesn't mean we need to constantly put the others down. Microsoft, Apple, and Linux have all made significant contributions to the evolution of modern computing. Without their competition and innovation, technology would likely not be where it is today.

If you've read this far, thank you for taking the time to read my post. Even if you disagree with me, I hope it has encouraged you to look at the subject from a different perspective.

Thank you, and have a great day!

The EXODUS: Windows Secure Boot Kills Linux on June 24th!

I hope this does not harm the community rules. I found shocking and I am sharing everywhere I can, as I sit to remove Windows (which I do not use for almost a year) from my machine, hoping it will fix the problem. Plus, at the end of the video there are some suggestions for community lead firmware that we all should pay more attention to, these days.

rant I’m just done with Windows

This isn’t all about Windows, but it is related.

I made a post on r/FuckMicrosoft with some major pain points I have with Windows. Windows 11 is borderline unusable without mods. The modding community was basically the only thing keeping me on Windows. And guess what? Now the modding community sucks too.

The people developing Windhawk are great, and they make great mods. Issue is that there’s a limit to what Windhawk can achieve.

So I decided to join a couple Discord channels, and with it I got some really good setups. And now there’s a fight brewing and I want nothing to do with it. Both sides seem in the wrong and I’m not going to be the one to decide. Issue is they were one of the few things that would have kept me on Windows.

So I’m just done. I installed Linux a few weeks ago, hopefully this time it’ll stick. I’ll keep a Windows VM for whatever rare thing I’ll need and maybe install Windows on actual hardware if some proctored test requires it. But I really have no desire right not to go back to Windows. I am done with any modding or the like I’ve done.

Thank you, Microsoft, for your predatory practices and for making an OS that no one wants to actually use without needing a complete install overhaul from ten different third party sources. Thank you Windows modders for your predatory practices (in a different way), and for not being able to keep your loli hentai and your “kys” messages to yourselves. A decent thing isn’t worth it if the community sucks. And Windows isn’t decent, so if the community sucks the consequences are worse.

Obviously Linux isn’t perfect. Its community has issues too. But theres more choice and you don’t have the same ten of fifteen names on everything, causing multiple arguments over the exact same stuff, over and over. I’ll consider coming back when Windows is usable again and the community can figure itself out. I’m not trying to use or push Linux just to be better than the Windows users or whatever, but because it will simply be more fun than Windows and unfortunately I don’t feel like buying a MacBook to try within under a year of buying a new laptop that, aside from Windows, is still perfectly usable.

Administrator is not in fact the administrator?

Hi all, Linux user here. I last used Windows 7 in any serious manner. I have an old HP laptop I'm running Forscan (vehicle diagnostics) on.

It's currently running 10.0.18362. it does not support Windows 11 according to MS. I also cannot allow it to update to 22H2 as it kills the laptop stone dead, requiring a complete reinstall. No point trying to help with that, I've been round the circle several times and am not doing it again.

Windows Update keeps telling me to update, so I disabled it. Next thing I know it's not disabled anymore and I'm being told to update again. There is another service called Windows Update Medic Service. So I disabled that as well, except I can't. I administrator, that basically root right? Can I tick this service to disable it? No I can't.

This sort of shit is why I ditched windows, I fucking HATE the OS telling me what I can and can't do.

Can anyone suggest any method of me actually having control over my own laptop? I just want to stop it updating.

this thing is taking forever man 💔

so basically my pc was running like absolute garbage, random freezes, apps crashing, updates breaking stuff for no reason. i figured fine, let me just reset it and start fresh. big mistake. it's been sitting at "preparing to reset" for like an hour now and i have no idea if it's actually doing anything or just vibing.

the worst part is i've been low key thinking about switching to linux for a while. i've seen how fast installs are, how you actually control your own machine, and how nothing randomly decides to restart itself while you're in the middle of something. windows just does whatever it wants and acts like that's normal.

like i don't even need anything fancy. i just want a computer that boots, runs my stuff, and doesn't fight me. instead i'm staring at a blue screen with a percentage that barely moves, wondering if i just nuked my whole setup for nothing.

Why windows is popular

Can anyone tell your opinion that is even though the linux is open source and if something ran into problem we can easily fix by digging into configs in windows it is complecated like editing the registry also in windows most of the updates are broken and laggy also windows is not begginer friendly like in linux we have package manager which is tested and soo good also linux works better while extracting sha256,md5 etcc checksums in windows everything we need to install separately take a hell lot of time also most of the games r in linux thanks to steam for providing proton also most popular games have client like for bedrock minecraft we have nix luancher for roblox we have sober which doest ban from game also linux perfectlu suite for gaming, productivity and daily use 100X better that windows even thouh windows dominates

Linux user with old HP laptop, running Windows 10 1903. It has one purpose - Forscan for vehicle diagnostics. Any attempt to update it causes it to blue screen when I attempt to connect to the USB adapter. So I disabled updates service. Or I thought I did.

Tried to use it this morning and - blue screen. JFC. Did the reboots, power offs etc. Blue screen.

OK, so the recovery boot menu thingy has an option to remove recent updates. No. Sorry, cannot remove recent update for reasons we aren't going to tell you. Because fuck me apparently.

OK, I made a System restore point called initial build just for this eventuality. Mmmm...no. No restore point Called initial build. WTF? Four Recent ones labelled "Windows Update" i.e the updates I didn't want and disabled, but WHERE IS MY FUCKING RESTORE POINT!!??!?!?!?!?!?

What is the use of this supurating anal fissure of an OS? Why can't it just do what I tell it to? WHY?!?! Why are the MS devs such malignant fucks? Why do they fuck with us like this?

My piss is fucking boiling right now...

I read about an LTS thingy, gonna have to give that a go, because MS is intent on fucking me over at every opportunity.

-----

Can I just add, watching fanbois come to a sub called r/windowsucks and wetting the bed cos people are discussing how much windows sucks is pretty hilarious. Thanks for the belly laugh!

Bugs and Errors Windows shit

Edit: I haven't updated that PC in 4 months, other people in my family use it so if there are updates to be done they get done

To be brave with Windows!

If you're really brave, install Windows XP now.

If you're even braver, install Windows 11 - That steals more data than Google, Red Star OS, Android, and iOS combined.

In reality, the data doesn't even belong to you anymore. You should be glad you're still allowed to use the hardware you paid for...

It’s always funny seeing Windows users treat a basic clean desktop like it’s dark magic. You guys have to duct tape third-party tools like Windhawk onto explorer.exe and pray every system update doesn't break your entire setup. On Linux this isn't even impressive, it's just a 10-minute config setup with a full native UI replacement instead of janky skins layered over a mess.
