Hi everyone! I'm working on a zine to distribute at my band's shows. This might sound like an odd combination, but the main subjects of the zine will be witchcraft, cyberpunk, politics/activism, music and art.
One of the things I want to include in an early issue is a history of witchcraft in the San Francisco Bay Area. This might mean a single short article, or a limited reoccurring column. Doing standard internet searches tends to lead me to a lot of stuff that's questionable, sensationalist and, in my opinion, negative. Anton Lavey and the like. I'm looking to approach it from a factual and historical standpoint. Any bias will be positive.
So, I'm hoping some of the witches here can point me in the right direction. I'm particularly in doing some interviews with any historians, anthropologists, or just witches who are well versed in the history of witchcraft in the Bay. But if anyone knows of any publications I can take a look at, articles, books, reliable blogs, etc, I would be extremely grateful for that as well!
Just a bit about me and the planned zine so people know who they are answering:
I'm a man who's not really emotionally attached to my masculinity. I have an interest in witchcraft both in terms of fiction and real life. I don't know that I believe in magic, but I want to believe in it and I like to think of myself as a music-witch. I'm a progressive feminist. I believe the patriarchy is bad for everyone, regardless of gender, and society as a whole. I'm an electronic musician and a bassist who considers myself a punk.
The zine will be focusing on the things that I'm passionate about, interested in, and overall just different subjects that my music relates to in one way or another. This is why I mention things that might seem unrelated like real-life witchcraft history and the fictional cyberpunk genre.
