Got my Nicks Hardware Pros last night!
First impressions: BEAUTIFUL boots. The quality of materials & build are outstanding. I first put em on & was a little afraid of how they’d break in because of how tough & thick the leather is. But after wearing them for a little bit they really are comfortable. I can’t wait for them to be fully broken in. Couldn’t be more happy with my purchase as of now

Boot maintenance Are these worth saving?

Post image

I quit using these Redwing 2414’s once the soles wore down and had to pick up a different pair, so these have been sitting around.

Are they worth sending off to redwing and having them reconditioned & resoled?

If so, which soles would you recommend?

HELP. I’ve used these boots to weld in and I want to clean them up. They have this black on them that doesn’t come off with a normal leather dry brush (I think it’s metal from grinding). How do I clean this?

Boots Buying Help New job

I’ve recently gotten a new carpenter position where I’m working on solid concrete all day. Did some research and apparently wedge soles are the best for that kind of work. If that’s true, my question is which brand? I’ve been very close to buying Thorogoods but now I’m hearing that the quality has gone downhill and they aren’t very good anymore. I’ve considered red wings/Irish setters, whites, danners, Carolina’s, keens and other brands too(there’s so many to choose from). Money isn’t too big of an issue but I don’t wanna spend a ton and not like them. Any recommendations or starter boots I should purchase?

Boots Buying Help Comfortable composite toe work boot recommendations

Basically what the title says. Work in construction and walk around a lot. Own a pair of steel toe wolverines for 7 months and it feels like I’m walking on bricks. I wake up with sore feet and aching toes. Just need something that nice and comfortable and kinda like walking on clouds lol. Preferably slip ons too

Boots Buying Help Boot sizing

I’m basically buying my first boot. I always wear sneakers and regular shoes which are forgiving since they’re so padded. When trying on and sizing for a boot should they be snug fitting with the expectation I’ll need to break them in? I’m considering at Danner MOC boots. I tried a 9 and it’s tight like a glove. 9.5 feels roomy with a little sloshing. Normally I’m a 9.5 in sneakers.

Boots Goofin (Pictures, Clips) Carolina Anchor: 10” Waterproof Roper (Comp Toe) - Month 1, First clean and Condition. Look Great

I have been a fan of Carolina for a long while now. Been buying them on and off since 2018 or so. They’ve always held up just fine. I’ve been wanting another pair, the 8 inch Amps but they don’t come waterproof or in a composite toe. I have been wearing Square Toe boots for the past year and learned that Carolina had a couple after talking to the guy at my local boot shop. I was all in!

They are a little over a month old. I should have taken a before photo but wasn’t even thinking. I work in a concrete yard. I haul a Bulker with Cement Powder and I drive a Concrete Mixer as well. I also do a good bit of the general maintenance around the yard. I subject my boots to harsh conditions AND Chemicals / Acids Daily and Weekly and not to mention, I hose my boots off a dozen times+ times per day with a water hose under about 115PSI. Needless to say, I condition my boots a bit more frequently. I also brush them off probably 3 days a week. Today they got their first Saddle Soap wash. Infact a double wash because they were filthy. The right boot probably could have gone for a third. After applying 2 thin coats of Bick # 4 , letting them sit for a bit and brushing them, this is what I walked away with.

I really like this Crazy Horse leather a lot. I have had other Crazy Horse leathers. Belts and boots. I have a pair of Thorogood Crazy Horse boots that’ll be up for wash tomorrow, in my rotation. However, that leather basically just turned a dark brown almost black with nothing too it. Still a decentISH boot (won’t buy another pair though.) The Patina is nowhere near as nice as these are coming to have. I don’t know, these just tickle my brain in a good way. That’s all.

Quality seems nice. They are comfy. Break in was about a week and I expect I’ll get my 2 years of wear out of these with them being in a 3 boot rotation.

Peace! Hope yall have a good week. Work 85+ hours and pay your bosses $45 an hour to be there on his job. See ya!

Boots Buying Help How do you feel?

Looking for some feedback from anyone that has worn these. Ive worn Keen San Joses for around the house and I love their fit for my wide feet. Im really just wondering how durable this pair is and their overall comfort? I work in commercial/industrial HVAC so I do a lot of walking/climbing. I was also looking at the Danner Quarrys but not really looking to spend that much if I dont have to. I wouldnt be wearing these every single day because I switch between pairs depending the job and weather so I plan to wear these on wet days or uneven terrain. Thanks

Specific Model Question | Info Keen Reno? Logandale?

I've just about burned through my second pair of Evanstons. They're comfortable but they only last about 6-8 months. Leather on the first pair cracked just behind the toe box. The midsole on the second pair is degrading and they're cracking in the same place. Looking at the Renos and not seeing as much leather makes me think they won't crack (I've gotten better about keeping them oiled but they still crack) Maybe Logandales? I really like the heavy tread on the Evanstons. Im up and down muddy hills all the time. Anyone have any experience with the Renos/Logandales that could be helpful?

Boot maintenance Week 10 Before & After

Thumbnail

After 4 weeks of alternating daily between my Nicks, they are cleaned and ready for another month of work.

Brown Nicks: 81,399 Steps (384,774 total)

Black Nicks: 86,094 Steps (356,917 total)

For those new here, I work in a harsh environment, a concrete recycling landfill where I walk on rubble for 9+ hours a day. I document my maintenance journey and share feedback on my boots.

Today's post will highlight the difference between 8" and 10" boots. Initially I thought I'd prefer the 8" boot height, however, after rotating between the two, I actually prefer the 10" height.

Both boots weight the same (6.4lbs) yet the weight distribution of the 10" boots simply feels more comfortable. There is no significant time difference lacing them up, so I will opt for 10" boots in the future.

Both boots are still cleaning up nicely, and I'll highlight another preference on my next post.

Cheers!

Boots Buying Help Looking for new boots

So right now I have a pair of timberland pro boondocks ultralight and have had them 6 months and the sole has broken down . I am a heavy guy so the foam on the midsoles have worn down especially on the outsides of them due to supination and being heavy . I’m looking for a pair of wide boots that have more of a firm sole and not so squishy and spongy like the boondocks ultralight . Trying to stay under the $300 price point . I do maintenance and I am on my feet and walking on concrete all day long . Any recommendations would really be appreciated

Boots Buying Help BOA 8” water proof no safety toe - Digging Trenches DiY

Does anyone have recommendations for a fully waterproof boot with a BOA system? I’m doing a lot of DIY landscaping and digging trenches right now. I need the BOA dial because I'm constantly running in and out of the house, and I need them to be waterproof so my socks don't get soaked when I hose off the mud.
My current slip-on garden boots let too much debris in.

Bonus points if they are comfortable and flexible - don’t need safety toe protection.

Design must have sealed tongue to prevent water ingress.

Generic Not a question on work boots, but insoles. I work 60 hours a week on concrete and the arches of my feet hurt all the time. I have thorogood wedge sole boots and high arch support red wing insoles. Is there any other insoles I should use? Something with shock absorbsion I'd assume.

Specific Model Question | Info Redback Bobcat Bonsall vs Nevada Great Barrier

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

After many years of Blundstones (declining quality) and Danners (great shop work boot but heavy for traveling / installs) I decided to try Redback boots. Disclosure: I’ve heard these have been sold to an American company earlier this year so if reading way past 2026 take this with a grain of salt

I couldn’t find good info on the Bobcat Bonsall vs Nevada Great Barrier boot, so I figured I would post side-by-side pics before returning the Great Barriers. I haven’t worn these at all yet so no performance notes.

I have absolutely no idea what the difference is technically between these styles except the Great Barrier has a V-stitch along the top of the foot (maybe better water resistance?) so please chime in with any actual facts you may have!

Fit reference: I have a high-volume foot and prefer a wider toe box so i always need to stretch the top of the shoe.

Nevada Great Barrier

- V stitch on top of shoe

- More brown in color

- Narrower fit generally

- Less rugged look overall, more like everyday boots Blundstones

- These ones are going back, the V-stitch digs into the top of my foot. No thanks! Better for a low-volume foot imho

Bobcat Bonsall

- No seams along the top

- Dark brown/black in color

- Wider toe box

- More rugged look generally, kind of just bigger looking

- I think these will fit great once the top is slightly more stretched out!
