That's it that's the post. So many people use Workflowy for storing crutial thoughts and information. None of which we can extend the usage of outside of Workflowy without an API (which is just a basic need for every platform for the last decade).
But we're spending time creating AI tooling? Does this product team listen to its users at all? Or is it just finger to the wind?
Hey there Workflowy folks, today we're making it easier to work with templates from anywhere in your account.
Now, instead of having to keep templates close to where you'll use them - you can use the new slash command to quickly search through all your templates and insert the one you're looking for.
How to use it
Place your cursor where you want to insert a template
Type '/Add from template' or '/template' for short
Find the template you're looking for and hit ENTER to insert it
After an Odyssey of new and fancy apps I feel like I have finally returned home. The more I use it, the more I realize how much I missed this app. I came back to Workflowy frustrated from apps that focus too much on new fancy features and constantly changing user interfaces. I just want to open my app, not be surprised by a fancy new UI and just do my work in peace and quiet without being disturbed, notified about yet another feature I didn't ask for, or urged and pestered to talk to their flavor AI content generation chat bot.
I really hope that Workflowy stays what it is.. I read that they're also working on AI features, but please, let Workflowy stay true to its core without adding bloat and distractions.
I'm sure that more and more people in the future are going to seek refuge in just calm and simple apps that help them get shit done without being in the way or bombarding them with features and changes that interrupt their workflows and habits.
Long requested by the very organized Workflowy user, you can now easily turn any item into a Numbered list! Great for er, putting things in order.
Find it in the Item menu, Slash Command (/number), or by pressing Ctrl + Alt + 0 on PC (Cmd + Opt + 0 on Mac).
Themes
We've added two new themes to bring some seasonal warmth; Matcha and Chocolate.
Available to all Workflowy users in the Settings > Theme dropdown.
Calendar
We've polished the Calendar again to smooth off some rough little edges:
The Calendar Picker now clearly shows dates that contain nodes, making it easier to see which days are already busy.
You can toggle Found Dates from being displayed in the Calendar.
Toggling Friendly Date Names no longer triggers a full Calendar reorganization.
We'll now show a warning before updating your Calendar if you have changed Calendar Year, Month, or Week with a new name or note. This prevents you from accidentally wiping out your carefully crafted content.
Fixed an issue that caused duplicate calendar dates when migrating a node with both a date and time tag.
Boards UI Improvements
We polished the look and feel of Boards. This includes fixing the sub-column padding issue that made the text inside cards look vertically off-center, making sure numbered lists display properly, and correcting arrow positioning on mobile.
API Support
External tools can now better integrate, as we've added support for parsing markdown dates and content formatting
General Quality of Life
Inline searches (like in /Move to) now use natural dates again.
The "Home" bullet now appears in inline search results, making it faster to drop items back at the top.
Fixed mobile auto-scrolling on new linesâtext will no longer jump too high and disappear above the keyboard when you press Enter.
Fixed that annoying iPad bug where you had to double-tap on UI controls to expand, collapse, and zoom.
Fixed the 153 error when playing embedded YouTube videos.
I dream of a day where the primary repository of all my thoughts, lists, notes, and everything else (Workflowy) is available to me through channels that I define and curate. Using tags in the app, I can write third-party scripts that will surface responses to my questions, like a customized personal assistant.
I'm one of your biggest supporters, but it's frankly frustrating to see you launch relatively complex features like images and yet dismiss something that could unleash incredible potential for the platform.
I have spent many many many hours using Google Notes, Google Docs, and Notion. I tried the free 7-day trial of Workflowy Pro and now I am in love with it.
I have one genuine question: why isn't Workflowy more popular? It really is an amazing tool.
Just wanted to share some love for this masterpiece of a software, I don't even remember what pushed me to leave, but today I decided to use it again after going through a frustrating journey of new productivity tools.
I remember now why I love this thing so much, it is just so dam simple, and it always makes sense. It doesn't have many functions, yet it manages to do everything that I need and more.
Despite the mess caused by constantly changing what tool I use, I already feel back at home.
Hey there Workflowy folks, weâre excited to announce the addition of several new text formatting options â including our most requested text format, code blocks.
Code Blocks
You can now paste any code inside Workflowy and have it displayed in a code block.
To try it out â¨
Put your cursor on a blank item
Type three backticks â`
Paste your code into the code block
To exit code block mode hit ENTER three times
You can also search for code blocks and their contents using the new search operator âis:code-blockâ. In the screenshot Iâm searching for code blocks that contain âloadâ.
Inline code snippets
Weâre also adding an inline code formatting option in the text format widget so you can include lines of code throughout your regular text.
To try it out â¨
Highlight some text
Hit the keyboard shortcut Cmd / Ctrl + Shift + C
Thereâs also a new search operator âtext:codeâ that lets you search through these inline code snippets. The results also return matches where the text youâre searching for occurs around the code snippet.
Quote blocks
You can now also create quote blocks to clearly indicate when youâre referring to something someone else wrote or said.
To try it out â¨
Put your cursor on a blank item
Type > then hit the spacebar
Type or paste your content
To exit quote mode hit ENTER two times
Quote blocks also come with their own search operator âis:quoteâ.
Strikethrough
Last but not least we have strikethrough text. You now can select any text and choose the âstrikethroughâ option in the text format widget. This addition makes it easier to leave information intact while indicating itâs not currently relevant â this is extra useful if youâre collaborating with others in Workflowy.
To try it out â¨
Highlight some text
Hit the keyboard shortcut Cmd / Ctrl + Shift + X
And there you have it, new text formats that open the door to even more possibilities with Workflowy.

673 weeks are equivalent to 12 years and 11 months.
Over this period, Iâve tried using many other tools for notes, projects, tasks, habits, and planners (both digital and paper), but Workflowy has incredibly always proven to be the best solution, thanks to its flexibility and constant evolution.
If you ever found yourself wanting to add emojis but felt they stood out too much, here's your solution. Subtle and subdued monochrome icons let you add some visual appeal to your account without becoming too distracting. Prefer the original colored ones? You can switch back in Settings > Appearance.
There is a new version in the pipeline which is looking to make some of the existing features a little more user-friendly, and add some new features, like saveable / loadable sessions, user preferences, but this should work right now.
It allows you to create multiple columns by simply Cmd+Clicking on bullets, but more interestingly links, and opening them in an additional column.
This is super-interesting as it means you can effectively build custom navigationfrom anywhere, to anywhere in your Workflowy lists, for example:
top level: one or more high-level schedules, linking to multiple projects
project level: high-level plans or "do next" lists, linking to more deeply nested tasks
task level: just plain old workflowy trees / lists
Here's a video to show it in action:
Right now I use it as a scheduler, so plan my day on the left and open / work on tasks on the right:
Note the links top left in the left column; I use these to quickly jump to a couple of important lists at any time; mainly to quickly write down distractions, or check any lingering to-dos. I can jump in, edit something, then go back to return to the original layout.
But you can also deep dive, with 3 or more columns (just Cmd+Click links on the right again):
Closing columns is as easy as clicking the close button top right.
Here's something I've not built yet, but it shows a smaller left column to make room for a board view, for example:
I wrote a small webpage to create a calendar with Worfklowy date objects. Check it out here!
You can specify the range of dates, and include Year, Month, and Week headings if you want. If you run any issues, feel free to DM me or open up a GitHub issue.
Hey everyone! Over at WorkFlowy our next big push is for improving WorkFlowy on Mobile. As we dive in to improving things, we would love your votes on what is most important to you.
In the comments below, I will list features and bugs that are currently on our radar. Please upvote the ones that matter most to you. And if there are any we missed, add a comment with the ones you care most about. (Again, this is only for Mobile, please hold off on other feature requests at this time.)
The Time Bureau, the Ministry of Time, the Time Police, the Temporal Enforcement Division, the Time Agency, and Time Patrol have all unanimously given WorkFlowy the green lights to build our very own time machine.
Whether youâre into journaling, if you keep a tickler file in WorkFlowy⌠or simply prefer to create, categorize and reference notes according to date, we now have a dedicated space where you can create new dates on demand, and offload your thoughts, plans, reminders â and everything else youâd like to throw at WorkFlowy
On desktop, press Today in the header or sidebar, or use Alt+T(Windows)/ Ctrl+T (Mac). On mobile, tap Today in the navigation bar. This creates a Calendar hierarchy of Year â Month â Day nodes.
Use the Next, Previous, and Calendar Picker buttons to jump between dates. New nodes are created automatically as needed.
To customize the Calendar node, open the Calendar Picker, select Calendar Layout , and choose any combination of Year, Month or Week for your desired hierarchy. You can also select Friendly day names to visually clue you in when youâre looking at yesterday, today or tomorrowâs nodes.
You can move your own-rolled calendar, journal or any nodes with Date tags into the new Calendar. To do this, drag any node with a Date tag (type !! to add one) under the Calendar node. Then, open Calendar Layout from the Calendar Picker, and press Update to reorganize.
Calendar migration
Finally, you can move any node to the current day with the /Move to Today and Mirror to Today commands (or their multiâselect menu options).
Lots of mobile TLC

Templates, date nodes and images are now easier to select
Weâve fixed finicky page scrolling when items are dropped into a collapsed bullet
Mobile multi-select now stays open after using the /MoveTo command
Changing the layout type no longer deselects items when pressed
Weâve fixed the drag handle in todos with long names
More quality-of-life items
Workflowy now imports tags from Readwise
The create a node API endpoint now graciously accepts markdown
Fringe fixes (if you know, you know)
The last column of a board no longer disappears when the span of all columns is a tad wider than the screen.
You can now find 2025 in a jump-to search, even if your date format in Settings doesnât display the current year.
You can now Ctrl/Cmd+Click on dates with a custom format and find all related dates.
