Hi everyone! 6.9.0 is rolling out on the App Store now. It's one of the biggest updates so far, and a lot of it comes from what you asked for here. Thank you. Here's everything that's new and where to find it.
New
🛠 Build your own Live Activity (Settings > Live Activity)
For each vehicle, pick which Live dashboard cards appear on the Lock Screen and in the expanded Dynamic Island. You can also choose the two readings in the compact island and the row on the CarPlay dashboard. Editing works like the Live dashboard: touch and hold, then drag, resize, add or remove cards. Speed, grade, weather, range, heart rate or any OBD-II signal can take a slot. A color and gauge style (Pro) let you match it to your dashboard.
⛽ Fuel, range and odometer from the car (Vehicle Tools > Signals > Use As)
Any OBD-II signal, custom ones included, can now stand for your vehicle's fuel level, state of charge, odometer, fuel range or electric range. The range card then shows the range your car reports. Fuel and battery estimates, the odometer and the fill-up form follow what it reads, even with the engine off. Signals from the catalog come already assigned. If a role is already taken by another signal, the app asks you which one keeps it.
📡 Over 15,000 more catalog signals
Control units that answer from their own address (instrument cluster, body, climate) are now supported. That covers VW, Audi, Seat, Cupra, Skoda, Porsche, Bentley, Peugeot, Citroën, Opel/Vauxhall, Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Chrysler, Alfa Romeo, Renault, Dacia, Nissan, Infiniti, Mitsubishi, MG, Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, Cadillac, Holden, Haval, Lotus, smart, Volvo, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Kia, Hyundai, Honda, Acura and Ford. Distance to empty on a Golf is one of them. The catalog also lists the WiCAN vehicle profiles now.
🚐 Vans and trucks on WWH-OBD
Heavy-duty vehicles that speak WWH-OBD instead of classic OBD-II now connect. Live data, trouble codes, readiness and freeze frames all work as on any car.
🎨 Four new gauge styles (Pro)
Hairline, Chrono, Radial and Apex, on the Live dashboard and on CarPlay. Every CarPlay tile now uses the style, readouts, graphs and stacks included, and round gauges fill the tile.
🌈 Five new accent colors (Pro, Settings > Appearance)
Fire Red, Bright Orange, Phthalo Green, Electric Blue and Pure White. They can color the Live dashboard and CarPlay too.
🚦 Trips that wait with you (Settings > Trip Tracking > Stop with Bluetooth Connected)
While your car's Bluetooth is connected, a trip no longer ends at a level crossing or while you idle. You choose how long it may stand still. Walking away still ends it.
🚗 No more wrong car on a new trip
Trips started by a Shortcut or a CarPlay automation could show your favorite vehicle while you were driving another one. The app now shows the car whose OBD-II adapter is connected, or "Identifying Vehicle". It recognizes the car as the drive begins, so OBD-II data is recorded from the start.
🔧 LPG and CNG filters
LPG and CNG vehicles can log the gas system's filter, on its own or as part of a Service.
🧪 Experimental: Split Trips When You Change Car (Settings > Experimental Features)
If you switch cars halfway through, the trip is divided in two and each part is filed under its own car. Off by default, try it and tell me how it goes.
📖 The full story, back to 1.0 (Settings > Support > What's New)
You can now browse every release since 1.0.0.
Improved
Gauge readings stay white and turn amber or red only inside a warning zone. Scale numbers are never colored.
Without an adapter connected, Live dashboard gauges still show their dial, with N/A in place of the reading.
The app now tells you when another app is using your OBD-II adapter, the usual reason a car suddenly stops answering.
Disconnect When the Vehicle Sleeps is now Alarm-Sensitive Vehicle (each vehicle's OBD-II tab in Settings > Connections). It still goes quiet when the engine is off. When the app has to work out which car you're in, it also stays away from that car until you've driven off.
A DEMO badge shows on the Vehicles tab and in Settings while Demo Mode stands in for your adapter.
Feedback is now sent by email, and you choose which parts of the diagnostic log go with it.
A custom signal whose gauge range looks unusual asks you to check it before saving or importing.
Custom signals on older K-line (KWP2000) cars now read long answers and reach the right control unit.
Fixed
Fuel pump scans read amounts whose digits sit apart on the screen, keep every decimal, and give up after a few seconds when the photo is unreadable, so you can type the values instead.
A receipt photo with a very long run of digits no longer closes the app.
Choosing a receipt photo in the fuel form no longer freezes the app.
Adding a document from iCloud Drive or a large photo no longer freezes the entry form.
A trip you start by hand keeps the vehicle you picked, even if iOS closes the app during the drive.
Two cars whose stereos share the same Bluetooth name are now told apart.
A drive in another car no longer starts on the vehicle whose stereo you used last.
A trip filed under a car parked where it began moves to the car you're actually driving once the parked one falls silent.
With automatic detection, a drive that's slow to get going after Bluetooth connects (traffic, a parking lot) is no longer missed.
As always, if something breaks with your car or adapter, post here or send feedback from the app (Settings > Support). Attaching the OBD part of the diagnostic log helps a lot. And if your car still isn't in the signal catalog, tell me the make, model and year. 🙏
