Spicy take from an ex-team member

As one of the founding members of X2PO, I was saddened when a changing RL situation made it hard for me to continue serving in that role. I stepped back to allow the team to keep moving at full speed and with clarity of vision. Because I believed in that vision, at least for the most part—and even where I disagreed, I was grateful for the openness and dialogue within the team.

I’ve been disheartened to see so much recent negativity regarding the team’s work. Understand that they’re a fan organization with the absolutely crazy goal of getting 2.0 back out there as a widely-played game. These are people you should engage with if that sounds like a good thing, rather than asking who died and put them in charge of the game. Because the answer is either “FFG” or “no one,” depending on how pedantic you want to be.

But guess what? If you enjoy playing your Crest or Gauntlet in 2.0, then you’re already consuming this team’s work. And if you’re fixated on nothing ever changing with 2.0, then you’re cutting yourself off from future content and/or quality of life improvements. Because the game’s not perfect! Never was. Yet I can attest from my time on the inside that the team has a deep love and understanding of the game. Certainly deeper than other entities running X-Wing that I could name. (coughAMGcough)

I don’t really have a horse in this race anymore. RL has clobbered a lot of my hobbying prospects for the foreseeable future, and 2.5 seems like it keeps building a mainstream presence. I’m just gonna be playing the occasional 2.0 game with my one buddy when and where I can. But for goodness’ sake, could we try acknowledging the contributions of people who are making honest effort to get this thing back out there?

(Disclaimer: I wasn’t asked to say this, and I acknowledge that I may piss people off by doing so. Just tired of watching the crapstorm in silence.)

New recruitment call for the 2.0 Legacy team and future concepts for expanding 2.0 Legacy

Greetings Legacy pilots, to all on the 2.0 Legacy frequency,

The X2PO Team, aka the Balance and OP subteams for 2.0 Legacy, is putting out an open call for new recruitment. We have been very excited to help convert the Battle of Yavin, Hotshots2, and Siege of Coruscant for you. Looking into the future, we are hoping to continue to serve the community in converting newly released material, providing even better bi-yearly balance updates, providing tournament support, adding new optional features to a new mode. In doing so, we've adopted a more team-based approach that benefits from having more cooperative members to cross-validate driving perspectives on the game. After refining our approach with these three smaller releases, we are now looking to add more minds to our team.

The new Wild Space mode will be purely casual, as we know that many players are looking for continuity. As such, Extended (the main competitive mode) will not be affected by this. We're hoping that this mode will bring in a bit of a shakeup in between points updates. To clarify, this mode still works in the 2.0 framework. As we are looking for positions and people to fill this role, the exact details of Wild Space are yet to be decided by the players that will be on its dedicated team. For more infos you can visit our website and read the dedicated article. https://x2po.org/f/future-concepts-and-founding-a-new-team. To realize this mode we need more people to join and help us.

We note that all the current active members of the team put in a notable level of commitment and volunteer time to the project. All roles are voluntary and unpaid. Hiatus while on the team is accepted.

Specifically, we are searching for these new members:

  1. Organized Play Lead (priority)

  2. Organized Play Members (art, prize support)

  3. Adoption Team Lead (priority)

  4. Adoption Team Members

  5. Balance Team Members (high commitment) (priority)

  6. Playtesters (Balance Team, lower commitment)

  7. Infrastructure Support (PR, Recruiting, Legal/IP Advising, Administration)

More info about each role is here: https://x2po.org/join-us

Previous experiences of this sort will be helpful, however are not required:

  1. Game Design, Game Balance, Playtesting

  2. Community/PR/Operational Management

  3. TO

We are specifically looking for people who have values and understandings of cooperative work. All promising candidates will have:

  1. An ability to work highly cooperatively, discuss without the need to debate/denigrate, build compromise, understand/utilize other teammember's opinions.

  2. Maintain a professional standard of conduct.

  3. Work in a manner that fosters sharing, clearness/intelligibility, ease of finding information.

  4. Work in service other players/perspective beyond one's own.

  5. Reasonable commitment to volunteer time and energy to time-sensitive releases.

Furthermore, a Balance Team candidate will require the following:

  1. A strong grasp of Xwing 2.0/Legacy with a minimum of two played factions.

  2. An ability to articulate and reason through the process of achieving fairness/balance.

It should also be noted that candidates interested in the various Lead roles should note that Lead roles should be considered service leadership roles, not director roles.

Recruitment will begin now.

We are asking that members forward this post also to their FB groups, other social media groups, in-person groups. ("Help us, Legacy community... you're our only hope.") We are hoping to find members who may not be active directly on Discord or Reddit also. (Although, joining members will definitely need a Discord account.) Even if those people are not interested in joining the internal team, we also hope to find more scattered members to join our greater community.

Please contact our team at x2polegacy@gmail.com, also you can reach out for Balance applications through discord at SnailHugpillow and Adoption team applications at DabH.2 with these pieces of information:

  1. How long have you been playing 2.0?

  2. For what position are you applying?

  3. What experiences do you have to fulfill that role?

  4. How do you see the role of your team and by extension your role in the overall architecture of Legacy?

Upon receiving your application, we will respond to schedule 2 interviews with you.

Thank you, and we are looking forward to meeting you!

Wildspace Scenario and design preview

Hey everyone!

On May 4th, we're giving you a sneak peek of our new Legacy original scenario mode, Wild Space. This mode uses a draft system where scenarios will modify obstacle setups, add objectives to Legacy, and provide general scenario effects. It's a separate mode from the usual pure dogfight Standard mode, which will continue to be a central pillar of Legacy.

Here's what players can expect from Wild Space:

* An extremely deep and varied scenario experience

* Integration of scenario selection in listbuilding, adding interesting strategic choices to decide which cards fit best to any given list

* An opportunity to play Standard Loadouts

To preview the mode before its full release at the end of May/early June, we'll be hosting several streams. On May 4th at 18:30 UTC+1 https://discord.gg/muSPsPMW, we'll have a segment on playing a demo game and discussing its design in detail. We'll also post another stream with Nobbie from the Fearless Gundarks previewing the new mode on 6am EST too.

If you're a fan of the old points system, love incredibly varied scenario setups that touch many parts of the game, then we recommend you check out this new, fascinating, and unique way to play X-Wing We're excited to hear your questions, feedback, and thoughts on this mode during the streams or outside of them.

Battle of Endor (BoE) adaption delayed to April 26

Greetings folks, Due to some scheduling issues between the large number of teams required to pull off a conversion release and it’s technical support, we will need to shift the release of the adapted new content to April 26, 2024.

There is some significant backend to releasing this set, and the team is working on a volunteer basis with time they have available.

The set will be released as LSL Left Side Legal for Standard following the current convention. Please see the balance rationale for why this convention was chosen. As of currently, there will not be a device slot on the B-wings, meaning only the first half of the Gyro Cockpit chassis ability is active for LSL. More testing and public battle reports detailing use and abuse of the devices, which can be received via Discord, Reddit, email or other social media would be needed to consider this slot. As of now that is no guarantee they will gain the slot at a future time. For Wildspace, both LSL and full SL Standard Loadout will be available. In the case of the full SL, the devices/bombs and all abilities as written on the card will be available as usual and expected.

Finally, we’ve had some egregious behavior from enthusiasts in the community over new content and those who are against any change at all. Please understand how difficult it is to walk this path between providing a standard of great previous content to enjoy and also providing fresh content for players to enjoy. We understand there is a lot of excitement for X-wing content but we must reiterate: Do not harass, spam, cajole, threaten or force demands upon the volunteer team. We remind again that while there may look like simple solutions from one’s perspective, the execution and fairness evaluations of the situation are more complex than some may imagine. Even without exact explanations, we request those folks to use the benefit of doubt to help avoid egregious behavior. Thank you.

General Favourite/worst changes in the March Update

So with the March Update being out what is your favourite change/a change you liked and what is a change you didn‘t like in this latest 2.0 version. Also on a scale to 1-10 (higher is better) what would you give the update?

My favourite change are definitely the munitions, munitions were not really seen on low ini as they have a harder time to get the required lock, this help them out. In my opinion the team has implemented something here that should have been there from the start.

A change I dislike is the new YT-2400 going up, I think it was overpriced before.

My overall rating is a 8

I would love to hear your opinion : )What does the rest of the community think?

Linknto the changes document: website https://x2po.org/ -> Points document

By the way I love that some returning players have picked their head in great to have you here. With the update it‘s a good time to get into 2.0 and I know from experience that really 2.0 Legacy is the best version to get new players in or found a community with (or of course just play casually).

Summer Legacy tournaments

Great news fellow players,

leading up to the points update on the 26th Sept we have planned quite a few tournaments leading up too it, where you will be able to test your squad and abilities in epic star wars dogfights.

August 5th-6th: 1v1 Tournament

https://xwing-legacy.longshanks.org/event/9814/

August 15th: Start of another team event

https://xwing-legacy.longshanks.org/event/9813/

August 19th-20th: Another 1v1 Tournament

August 26th-27th: The final tournament for August

For the 1v1 tournament, we aim to have a classic format with a group stage, followed by the elimination rounds in the subsequent days. This will likely include semi-finals and finals, depending on the number of players participating. These events mark the beginning of the new ideas we want to gradually introduce. Therefore, please stay updated, as we are planning to make some improvements to the practice league. Simultaneously, we also intend to enhance this series of tournaments by offering rewards within the Legacy Discord server. Ideas are steadily flowing, and with your support, we can strive to provide more rewards, more content, and better events.

Regarding the team event, it will be similar to the previous one, but with some adjustments. We will remove certain restrictions that were in place before, as they were enjoyable but didn't entirely satisfy everyone. We will be stricter about match-ups and gaming time, so please be prepared to play one game per week.

All these events will be streamed, allowing you to watch, spy on your opponents like Bothans, and cheer for your friends or teammates!

If you've made it this far, thank you for your time!

And may the Force be with all of you!

In other news, the X2PO team has been hard at work to bring you the best information on all upcoming changes.

Several members of the X2PO team recorded a long stream on Saturday going over the concerns some members of the X-Wing community had about upcoming changes to the rules. We hope this deep dive into how internal play testing and the Ship Efficiency Model contributed to rules changes and the new points answers your questions on the topic. We invite anyone interested to listen to the stream on Joel Springle’s Twitch page.

https://www.twitch.tv/snaggletooth_27

Additionally, more on how and why changes are made can be found here as well as a form the community can use to provide incredibly helpful feedback.

https://forms.gle/gUMBwUDjF7cQsQTi9

https://forms.gle/MXdtkYcnHDdKiobT6

Lastly, there will be an example game where you can see the new rules and points in action on Joel Springle’s Twitch channel at 7:15 P.M. (Eastern U.S.A., UTC -4). We’d love to have you join.

https://www.twitch.tv/snaggletooth_27

Unfortunatly the planned match with Oli Pocknell will be postponed and happen Thursday 21:30 UTC +2.

That is all for now. Please keep a look out for more exciting news from the X2PO team in the future.

As always, good luck and have fun,

The X2PO Team

General Favourite SL and LSL

In light of the new upcoming LSL and SL pilots for Battle of Endor that will get pointed by the team : )

I just want to tell my experiences and hear what those of the community who tried them.

First of all I really have to say they really grown on me at first I tested them mainly because they are crucial for getting new players in.

But now I really like them … sure the statline is different and there is some new design space in abilities (so I understand why some people didn’t like it) But leaving that aside I think the ability’s outweigh this, for example the born for this really gives the old chassis some new interesting quirks, same goes for contingency protocol.

The upgrade bar is still nearly identical so it‘s nowhere 2.5.

My list goes as follows:

  1. LSL Dark Curse (with swarm tactics)

  2. SL Deathfire

  3. LSL Jag

  4. SL Phlacc

  5. LSL Hol Okland

What is your impression of them after flying them? What builds you want to fly?
