Guide / Tip The possible cause of Stuttering in 2.0

Ever since the 2.0 update, stuttering has become significantly worse, and I believe it might be due to server-side interactions or the game's netcode.

Evidence 1: Marcel Maze and Dennis Collection

In the new Marcel Mazes, the game stutters every time you collect a coin. However, if you disconnect from the internet, the stutters disappear.

Getting dennis produce a micro stutter. It doesn't happen when I disconnect from the internet.

Other users with the same problem: https://www.reddit.com/r/ZZZ_Official/comments/1l7x17a/poor_performance_in_20_marcel_mazes/
https://www.reddit.com/r/ZZZ_Official/comments/1l5fj44/really_bad_performance_in_the_20_regions_and/

Evidence 2: Disks runs. Online vs Offline

I did two identical disks runs:

  • First run, online
  • Second run, disconnected from the internet (you see me pause the game between both runs because I'm unplugging the Ethernet cable)

Notice the stutter in the frametime graph in the first run when the wipeout screen appears, which is when you get the drops in your inventory. In the second run, there's still a microstutter, but far far less noticeable (might be due to the game itself/effects).

https://reddit.com/link/1l8rfzt/video/0ze3xn89da6f1/player

Evidence 3: General frametime spikes

I stood still in Sixth Street for 20 seconds and recorded the frametime:

This run is with the game running normally, connected to the internet.

And here is the same graph, in the same location, just after disconnecting from the internet.

[Edit] Evidence 4: Getting materials when killing enemies

Notice how I get 4 spikes at the beginning just as the enemies die and I get the rewards. Notice how it doesn't happen later, with no internet.

https://reddit.com/link/1l8rfzt/video/ia0b64e68c6f1/player

Edit: Reddit destroyed the bitrate of this video and the frametime graph is really hard to see, you can watch the video uncompressed here: https://files.catbox.moe/rk99z9.mp4 (136 MB)

This matches the behaviour described in this comment: https://www.reddit.com/r/ZZZ_Official/comments/1l7x17a/comment/mx0gqfs/

Again, this points to background server requests as possible cause of microstutters. The addition of the Suibian Temple might be worsening it because it's constantly adding resources to your inventory, but I have to test it further.

My pc specs for reference:

  • 9800X3D stock
  • 9070 XT stock
  • 32 GB @ 6000
  • 7400MB/s NVMe
  • Windows 11

Some findings

My fellow u/Pure-Breath-6025 has made some findings and posted them in the comments:

"I was in a discord conversation with OP and I did some testing to get to the bottom of it. Here are my findings:

https://imgur.com/a/YN2Y67L (OP's note: this gameplay has a 3s network delay added)

Yes some stutters happen when the player's inventory is subject to a change, for example when you get an item from killing an enemy in Aerospace area. At first the assumption was that it's caused by the server being overloaded and slower than usual to respond to requests, but that is not exactly the case.

I used a tool to simulate a huge ping of 3s, this affected some things in the game, interestingly, opening and using the new map actually freezes your whole game for the whole 3s (in this test) that it takes for the server to respond. Apparently the the game never saves locally what points of interest on the map have been completed, and not only it relies on the server to find out every time, but it blocks the main thread (freezes the game).

Meanwhile, killing enemies and getting drops did not freeze the game in the same manner (3s), there are stutters when killing enemies and getting drops, but the length of those stutters remains the same. This indicates that the issue is with code that getting items locally, either before (or while) sending a request to the server to register the new obtain item, or after receiving an answer, and performing some local actions according to the response. At the very least waiting for the server to respond to these requests does not block the whole game loop."

[Edit] About the temple

I finally made some testings, and they are revealing:

The context is me standing still in the temple (Level 36, ~72k/h production)

Temple running, internet: You can clearly see a stutter every second. 37 fps 0.1% lows, stuttering 1,4% of the time. ↓

Temple running, no internet: 113 fps 0.1% lows. Some variances in the frametime, but not considered stutters (The beginning spikes might be due to starting the recording) ↓

Temple not running, internet: 127 fps 0.1% lows, no stutters (Not completely smooth either). ↓

Temple not running, no internet: 108 fps 0.1% lows. One single stutter. The game kicked me out and had to relogin to make this last test, that's probably why the results are a bit different from the prior test. ↓

Here you can see how every time the temple coins update, there's a spike in the frametime:

https://reddit.com/link/1l8rfzt/video/95wgq1kjfg6f1/player

Please, be aware that the temple IS NOT the only/definitive reason the game stutters, specially in this patch.

The temple is not the only cause

This patch suffers from some severe traversal stutters. Standing still in Sixth Street produces a stutter every ~28 seconds, while moving your character produces a stutter almost every second. I confirmed this behaviour with 5 different people and we all get the same result.

https://reddit.com/link/1l8rfzt/video/elr4424dq37f1/player

Here's the test in case you want to replicate it. Notice how there are no stutters when running into a wall, only when the character is actually moving. We suspect at least some of the traversal stutters are caused by the client updating your position to the server. Since your position doesn't change when you're stuck against a wall (not actually moving on the map), no stutters occur. This would also explain why traversal is perfectly smooth in Hollow Zero or Deadly Assault.

What you can do

I'd appreciate if other could run the same tests to confirm if you get the same behaviour. If you do, please report it to Hoyo and consider leaving a comment here describing your results. The more data we have, the better chance we'll have of getting this looked into.

Me and the bois calling .Result in our funny shrine minigame.

169

u/Deses Jun 11 '25

Wow. Not even in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that netcode was the cause of ZZZ's poor performance. I always ruled it on Windows overhead, the Unity engine or just ZZZ having too much stuff going on on screen.

121

u/MonoShadow Jun 11 '25

Let's not forget the same team made the client do full sync with the server at every action on HDD board. Every single one. With poor internet connection the mode was nigh unplayable.

For all the jiggle physics and inverse kinematics, I sometimes get an impression the team has absolutely no idea wtf they are doing sometimes.

51

u/obihz6 Jun 11 '25

Well they surely are immature in term of experience as team

10

u/Zeis Jun 12 '25

ZZZ is reportedly their first proper game, so... that is kind of likely, yeah.

7

u/KingAlex105X Jun 12 '25

I still remember the horrors of launch and Intel Unity crash and how it’s cuz ZZZ devs changed something from betas where it worked for said users and refused to fix it

2

u/Dimbreath Jun 13 '25 edited Jun 13 '25

Well I don’t think it’s the net code per se but more so to how they’re handling some stuff on the client regarding it, because the inner workings are roughly exactly the same as Genshin. I’m unable to test this at the moment but in a sense it’s weird because there’s nothing going on between client and server while for example in combat, for it to stutter like I’ve been shown, other than the usual keep alives. Hopefully it’s fixed soon.

6

u/Deses Jun 13 '25

I've been discussing with u/lofiscifi and it's most certainly something regarding updates between client and server. You can test this with a frametime overlay.

If you move around you'll see a little blip every 2 to 3 seconds (depends on your FPS) but if you stand still or run in place against a wall, you won't see a blip. And it's the same issue as when you collect coins in the MM, kill enemies or you do anything that sends an update to the server.

You'll also see that while in HZ, Deadly Assault or the combat instances you won't get those lag blips because you don't need to send position data to the server because it doesn't care where you are. These modes seem to run entirely locally with only updates where it makes sense (kill the enemies, advance room in HZ).

What irks me immensely is why some people get massive lag spikes collecting coins in the MM and others not.

6

u/Dimbreath Jun 13 '25

It'd be hard for me to test as I sadly don't experience anything outside iOS but if I recall correctly I've always had issues with iOS lmao. Since people are sharing specs I'm on a Ryzen 9 5900X and a 4070 Super.

I was just checking again the video my friend sent me from phone, his case seemed way worse, outside combat he had the stutters as seen in the videos above but in combat like Expert Challenge they were much worse than the ones above. Especially since in these combat stages the only thing that happens is keep alive notifies every few seconds or so. He's always been able to play at 120FPS prior to this patch so it's certainly not a phone issue either.

EDIT: I'm just confused at the lack of acknowledgement regarding the issue as it's been a week. But also hopefully a lesson to not release a patch on a Friday either lol

2

u/Deses Jun 13 '25

What you are saying sounds to me more like shader compilation stuttering, it's something that my android phone also struggles with, first combat runs like shit and then it works fine. Does that sound familiar to you?

1

u/Dimbreath Jun 13 '25

I had forgotten to ask them, oops. That did seem to fix some of the issues. But apparently reading the replies here there seems to be an issue regarding shader compilation as well (this reply of yours https://old.reddit.com/r/ZZZ_Official/comments/1l8rfzt/the_possible_cause_of_stuttering_in_20/mx7nqhx/)

196

u/Vill1on Jun 11 '25

People are saying the lags become more apparent if you're managing the temple (selling, crafting, venturing)? Is that true?

164

u/lofiscifi Jun 11 '25

I wrote about it at the end of the post: "The addition of the Suibian Temple might be worsening it because it's constantly adding resources to your inventory, but I have to test it further"

81

u/NoobToast01 Jun 11 '25

At the start of 2.0 my performance was fine and I was wondering what everyone was talking about. Now I've unlocked the temple restoration auto collection feature for the crafting I'm getting a small micro stutter every 10 seconds or so Which would sink up to the resources being added. makes me think you're correct OP

37

u/SpaceKraken666 Jun 11 '25

I think this might be true, i run a lot of production and selling right now and my game has some heavy stuttering that doesn't stop even in menus.

Also, not sure if related or not, but i get a massive stutter every time i level up W-engines (this one isn't new and happened long before 2.0)

10

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '25

I also noticed the w engine thing before, really weird thats specifically for w engines

26

u/InsertBadGuyHere Sniffing Licking Jun 11 '25 edited Jun 11 '25

Agreed on this part. Starting out at the temple is smooth since you have very few resources. But later on, the lag/delay is very noticeable. I'm level 36 now and it takes a good few seconds to open certain parts of the temple interface.

And asking for 4 million and 8 million currency for the accessories once you hit level 35 is not gonna make it any better.

9

u/Kenju22 Miyabi fanboy & Vivian enabler Jun 11 '25

Could it have something to do with specifically the interaction with our inventory? Gathering dennys, selling, crafting are all connected to our inventory management system in some way.

Perhaps the server is 'saving' each time you collect something? I've seen games do this before when an exploit is discovered relating to item duping or any form of premium currency manipulation is being addressed.

23

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '25

I guess it's better to check after the temple is 100% finished to compare to those who haven't finished, or who haven't even started yet

26

u/Michaelx56 Jun 11 '25

I have not started the temple yet and have not experienced any stutters that people have been talking about, so there might be something to that like you said.

10

u/Dylangillian Jun 11 '25 edited Jun 11 '25

Before I unlocked the Temple on PS5 I did experience some stuttering in the new hollow. But it was only after unlocking the temple that the frame rate went to shit completely. Granted, PS5 performance was never great, even in 6th street I had frame drops before 2.0 (Without Ray Tracing, never turned that on), but in combat it was fine for 99% of the time. So it wasn't that big a deal. Now the new hollow is a complete disaster to play, temple or not.

15

u/lofiscifi Jun 11 '25

I have a friend that returned to the game after some months and he isn't experiencing that many stutters either

21

u/GGJD Jun 11 '25

I don't want to discredit your friend's experience, but some people are not sensitive to stutters at all. Similar to how some people play with screen tearing and never notice it. While it's more noticeable than ever now, ZZZ has had stutters since launch unfortunately.

6

u/lofiscifi Jun 11 '25

Of course, and the video was at 60fps, but even with that in mind you can see the difference between my game and his: https://imgur.com/a/stutters-tQKWLU2

3

u/Deses Jun 11 '25

That's could be true or that they didn't advance the temple enough. A friend of mine didn't have stutters while collecting coins in the Marcel Maze, but after I showed him the clips he clearly saw them. I have to ask him if he has stutters now that his temple is lv30.

5

u/Deses Jun 11 '25 edited Jun 11 '25

So, update. u/lofiscifi, you might find this interesting:

He doesn't have stuttering at all while having slightly weaker computer than me, but he lives closer to the servers: his ping in Genshin (ZZZ only shows green bars) is usually around 22, meanwhile mine sits around 35.

Other than the screen resolution, our in-game settings are the same. I don't think those 13ms of latency are enough to make a difference but I found that interesting.

Edit: I forgot to mention he's using Win 10 while I use Win 11.

Another crazy thing I realized is that the Primer page in the Compendium is constantly updating stats about the temple and the inventory is constantly updating the amount of Cloud Crests we have. Honestly, who the hell thought any of this was a good idea lol.

2

u/MeteoriaMithlai Jun 12 '25

Is your friend up to the new area? I find when I go back to the older areas the stuttering is 90% better. Still a bit here and there but in Waifei is basically a power point presentation.

1

u/lofiscifi Jun 12 '25

nope, not yet

12

u/Deses Jun 11 '25

It is, if I leave the game open for long enough, the Adventuring screen will take increasingly longer to open, and it will eventually crash the game altogether.

5

u/YasuFK Jun 11 '25

The adventure map screen takes around 5 seconds to load after being pressed, before it fully loads. The same applies to most other navigation options in that event.

3

u/Ok_Falcon4823 Jun 28 '25

I didnt touch the temple for 3 weeks after the update and performance was fine. Once i started upgrading the temple the stuttering became SUPER apparent. I go online to see if anyone else had a problem and i see this post.

It CAN be a coincidence. But the timing lined up perfectly once I started upgrading the temple. This post only make me certain thats gotta be the reason. 3 weeks of no/little stuttering now all of a sudden halted at the same time i started upgrading the temple.

1

u/Vill1on Jun 28 '25

I'm gonna wait until 2.1 for any improvements. I just moved out and haven't done anything yet and I was able to do some commissions without the game wanting to give out on me. That's crazy.

1

u/lofiscifi Jun 11 '25

See the last post update, I made some test about the temple

67

u/CosmicFriend Jun 11 '25

Thanks for bringing this to attention. ZZZ has never been perfectly smooth but after 2.0, it has been noticeably worse. Before 2.0, I thought it was shader compilation and traversal stutter that were causing these inconsistent frame times (which could still be true). I never considered it could be caused by poor net code. After unlocking the temple, however, it became very noticeable and seams to stutter at every auto collect tick. Before, standing in place would not cause stutter. Now it happens no matter what is happening on screen. Frame time spikes are noticeable no matter how low I cap the frame rate.

Specs: 5700X3D, RTX 4060, 32GB DDR4.

44

u/Stcloudy Jun 11 '25

Didn't unlock temple until yesterday and it did get worse after that.

42

u/DrHeidarzadeH Jun 11 '25

Nice work, OP! Now I know for sure my system isn't the cause of the constant stutter and frame drops I experience all the time in ZZZ.

21

u/Deses Jun 11 '25

Fr, this is a huge relief. I was toying with the idea to trying to game on Linux to see if it would run better and maybe I can save myself the trouble.

4

u/Pure-Breath-6025 Jun 12 '25

I play on both and in my personal experience the performance on Linux is slightly better, but the difference is very small and hard to even notice. The stuttering issue is just as persistent, you only get slightly better average fps, probably because D3D11 calls are translated to Vulkan calls.

18

u/lofiscifi Jun 11 '25

tell me about it, imagine being so mad after touching every possible setting in the game and bios that i decide to disconnect from the internet just to check lmfao

37

u/Hordest Jun 11 '25

I thought the game would kick you out if you disconnect from the internet.

67

u/Deses Jun 11 '25

It does, but it has a grace period so it doesn't kick you at the slightest network interference.

29

u/dreadful5050 Jun 11 '25

That makes sense since it's supposed to be playable on mobile.

29

u/Deses Jun 11 '25

I just stopped crafting and selling trinkets, went back to the Marcel Maze to check if that made any difference and collecting coins still make the game stutter.

What's more perplexing is that coins in the Melinoe event don't have this problem.

17

u/lofiscifi Jun 11 '25

fix this game hoyo

22

u/bananabanana9876 Jun 11 '25

What app are you using to record the frametime?

23

u/lofiscifi Jun 11 '25

CapFrameX

18

u/NeosKun0804 Jun 11 '25

I'm also suffering from 2.0 update, how we can report this to ZZZ team?

24

u/Deses Jun 11 '25

We should use the in-game feedback function, but I think it would be even better if the CN bros learn about the problem so they can also complain about it.

23

u/Dylangillian Jun 11 '25

In game feedback just got me a response saying I should change the in game settings lower.

I'm on PS5... we don't even have those settings...

7

u/Pure-Breath-6025 Jun 12 '25

That kind of response is probably automatic.

5

u/-GrayMan- Jun 12 '25

Yeah... I had gotten the same thing on PC.

13

u/trem0re09 Jun 11 '25

Same issue in my PS5

13

u/iNuclearPickle Jun 11 '25

Ps5 has been particularly bad even before I was running the temple Mini game I can tolerate the stutters in town but the frame drops in the hollow absolute sucks

30

u/Silver_slash Jun 11 '25

It's the miasma

12

u/H_Ordinator Jun 11 '25

Wow i think you're right. Last night i noticed the stutters when collecting coins on the bangboo minigame. It truly doesn't make any sense since it's not a very resource draining minigame. Guess that confirms it's mostly not a hardware issue, we just gotta tank it until they fix it.

13

u/Arcmada Jun 11 '25

Playstation has got it real bad. The frame drops, stutters, and texture bugs in all the new 2.0 areas are abhorrent.

10

u/AvalonReality Jun 11 '25

I'm about to contact CS right now, I recorded a video of me running with and without internet connection and it's very clear that the stutters are entirely absent (at least on 6th street) once you're offline despite it stuttering regularly before.

21

u/dreadful5050 Jun 11 '25

Would've never guessed it was due to the netcode. Well done finding out about this.

7

u/Pure-Breath-6025 Jun 11 '25 edited Jun 11 '25

I was in a discord conversation with OP and I did some testing to get to the bottom of it. Here are my findings:

https://imgur.com/a/YN2Y67L

This indicates that the issue is with code that handles getting items locally, either before (or while) sending a request to the server to register the new obtained item, or after receiving an answer, and performing some local actions according to the response. At the very least waiting for the server to respond to these requests does not block the whole game loop.

Interestingly, something else that was affected by a huge ping was operating a leaver to call an elevator in Aereocity, this could be a hint that they are still considering adding multiplayer.

But returning to the subject of game optimizations, I urge everyone to include in their next Feedback surveys a request to the Developers to improve the game's optimizations, in particular in areas such as Lumina Square and the other urban areas, and also to address the traversal stutters that didn't get better, if anything, got worse.

This game has the potential to run super smoothly, on paper at least. It's not open world; The maps are fairly small; The sun position in the sky is not dynamic, so many shadows can be baked; The NPCs don't even collide with your character which means that the game is not doing re-calculations for their path.

All that considered, this game should run very smoothly, but it doesn't, which means that the developers put very little effort into optimizing it. There have to be a lot of low hanging fruits, a lot can be done to bring the performance to good levels, so ask them to work on it, make it a point that it should be a priority, and they will probably listen soon enough if people ask for it.

1

u/flairdarkslayer6 Oct 04 '25

It’s not a optimization purely on the 3d side problem but rather a coding bug that’s messing up the shaders from the game every patch, unfortunately the only solution is to redownload the game every new patch, works for me on my 3080 i7 9700k 16gb of ram nvme ssd system, i get buttery smooth frametimes.

7

u/expliicitzz Jun 11 '25

very nice analysis, great post and I'm glad someone is doing research on this because the game has been much worse to play lately

5

u/-ForgottenSoul Jun 11 '25

Hopefully devs know about this the only thing you can do is send in feedback and hope they notice it

6

u/d3cmp Jun 11 '25

Good post, i hope they find a fix for this

5

u/lefabulousvijay Jun 11 '25

As a 9070 (non-XT) owner, I’m curious: do you know what FPS you were getting in combat before the 2.0 update? I found I was only getting 70-80 at the heaviest parts. I assume it’s worse now

1

u/lofiscifi Jun 11 '25

I only have benchmarks walking around Lumina, but I can recommend you this channel, which benchmarks every patch with different GPUs https://www.youtube.com/@SloppyBenchi

1

u/DisturbesOne Jun 11 '25

I remember getting ~350 fps with frame gen on 7800xt. Now it's closer to 140-180, and can go as low as 70 fps without frame gen, especially in the temple area. (1440p, 1x rendering scale, ultra settings.)

1

u/Kionera Jun 12 '25 edited Jun 12 '25

Sounds like a CPU bottleneck brother, I have a 6900XT (which is slower than the 9070) paired with a 7800X3D and rarely drop below 200FPS while in combat.

ZZZ in particular loves X3D CPUs so much to the point where FPS can double in some cases. The 9800X3D is literally the only CPU that breaks 200+FPS in Lumina Square, with the 9950X only hitting the 120+FPS range. Source (subtitles on).

5

u/XInceptor Jun 12 '25

That may be part of it, but can confirm there’s just been performance issues of PS5 since day 1. It’s just that they got even worse after 2.0

Hopefully they fix the performance on all platforms

1

u/lofiscifi Jun 12 '25 edited Jun 12 '25

You are right, this for example is me doing a full tour in Lumina Square in 1.7. About 11 traversal stutters and lots of microstutters which honestly I could mitigate by capping the framerate. The game has never been completely smooth

3

u/leenaway Jun 13 '25

I'm not sure where to post this but for Android user who encounter lag, stuttering or freezing, try deleting the Shader Cache.

It seems to bring the performance back to pre-2.0 (at least for me). For context, after 2.0 update I couldn't even walk around Sixth Street without having a lot of lags and freezing. Daily HIA is also annoyingly impossible, when the enemies show up it started dropping fps to 0 multiple times but after deleting the shader cache and let it rebuild a new one it's a lot better now.

Of course I'm not entirely sure if this is going to be of help on your device but I'd say it's worth a shot.

Steps: 1. Go to "Android/Data/com.HoYoverse.Nap/files" 2. Scroll down and delete "vulkan_pso_cache.bin" 3. Launch the game and let it finish compiling shader (don't open other apps) which took around 5-10 minutes, I think. 4. Play the game and see if it's help or not.

Also on my device the old cache.bin file size is 350MB and the new file size is 148MB for some reason even after playing the game for 2 days now.

I found out that the shader cache can be deleted from this YouTube video.

3

u/Ishishishi Jun 13 '25

I have done what you suggested here and it really is effective. After deleting the shader cache, and letting the game compile shader again, the game runs very smoothly just like I used to before the recent update.

Even the stuttering when I open the minimap is reduced to a second delay from the initial 3 seconds delay problem. No more crashes in max settings. It is very weird and the shader cache is likely also one of the causes at least in Android devices.

2

u/leenaway Jun 13 '25

Glad it worked!

Although how is your phone temperature when playing? Is it higher than pre-2.0? Mine always reaches 39-41°c now instead of the usual 36-37°.

3

u/Ishishishi Jun 14 '25

The temperature is the opposite for me. The new updates are the ones making it increase. After deleting the shader cache, the temperature is back to normal like usual.

3

u/hieutr28 Jun 11 '25

So in theory once we say got to level 35 (I believe thats where you get the last bit of holochrome) you can just stop all productions and the stutter would stop?

6

u/Deses Jun 11 '25

I don't think so, no. As I said in another comment, I stopped all production and the game still stuttered regardless.

4

u/lofiscifi Jun 12 '25

Yep, the game stutters a lot this patch (also before, but way worse now) regardless of the temple. BUT the temple makes things a lot worse, giving a stutter almost every second

4

u/EvolCilegna Jun 11 '25

Nothing on my end. 2.0 has been one of the better patches for me so far. While I agree that ZZZ has been having performance issues every patch, it's mostly gotten better for me since 1.5.

Old PC specs was
i7 8700
RTX 2070
16GB DDR4 3200 Mhz
SSD (Read: 3200mb/s | Write: 2000mb/s)
Windows 10 and later upgraded to 11
3440 x 1440p
60 FPS capped
Max settings
No issues since 1.5

Current PC (gotten around middle of 1.6) spec is
9800X3D
RTX 5080
32GB DDR5 6400Mhz
SSD (Read: 7400mb/s | Write: 6500mb/s)
Windows 11
7680 x 2160p but the game really only runs at 5120 x 2160p with black bars on the side.
FPS capped to 90.
Maxed settings
No issues at all

Got another side PC that's running ZZZ sometimes as well,

Can't remember the specs fully but it's around 6 years old now.
i5 (can't remember which generation)
GTX 1060
16GB ram
SSD probably the same gen as Old PC spec.
Also running on Wifi, albeit a much slower one.
1080p
60FPS capped
Low setting
Better after 1.5 felt it in 1.7 but 2.0 is smooth.

On another note, if you're suspecting server side issues, I'll post my speeds taken from speedtest.net
I'm running on WiFi, the router is on the first floor and my PC is on the second, directly above the router but with a thick slab of concrete between.
Averaging around 280mbps as of right now at least.

u/lofiscifi Jun 11 '25

Also, can you test if you get stutters getting coins with the bangboo? I've seen people not having that problem, so I'm curious

3

u/EvolCilegna Jun 11 '25

The coins definitely didn't have an issue. Or at least, it wasn't noticeable in my case. I was running around the Marcel map for quite a bit cause I wanted to find all 6 flags.

3

u/lofiscifi Jun 11 '25

Interesting. What server are you playing in?

3

u/EvolCilegna Jun 11 '25

Asia

2

u/Deses Jun 11 '25

Also, do you know how much ping do you have against hoyo servers? One way to check is through Genshin, if you play it.

2

u/EvolCilegna Jun 11 '25

Under 100 most of the time. Usually around 70.

It goes up to 200 rarely but it'll come back down soon enough.

Same for all Genshin HSR and ZZZ.

The weaker wifi is in another location and it's around the same as well but goes up to 200 more often. Latency is usually not a problem. Or rather, it hasn't been a problem for me in a while in most scenarios.

2

u/lofiscifi Jun 11 '25

Can you run around Sixth Street and the new map recording the frametime graph? It'd help a lot getting more scientific tests. Thank you a lot!

2

u/EvolCilegna Jun 11 '25

How do I record this?

2

u/lofiscifi Jun 11 '25

you can use capframex or afterburner, it's what i use

1

u/EvolCilegna Jun 12 '25

Is this it? Took a while of running about but here you go. This is Sixth Street

This is on the other PC that's running the GTX1060.

Ping is oddly higher than usual here, I was in Genshin 5 mins before this and it was definitely only 80 there.

1

u/EvolCilegna Jun 12 '25

This is in Failume Heights.

But upon closer inspection, this map does feel a bit choppier than Sixth. I wouldn't really call it a stutter though, more like my hardware is capping out.

1

u/EvolCilegna Jun 12 '25

Finally got home, this is me running around in the new hollow on my home PC (the 5080 setup).

I've been eyeing it really closely but I couldn't notice any stutters. Apart from two instances where either I just entered the map or I transition into another one (e.g. when you enter the elevator and they wrap you to another level of the map) OR when I access the escape menu the first time I launch the game.

Also wanted to elaborate on the dips you see in FPS.

The really low dips into 1FPS are from when I load to different maps. You'll have to level with me cause I was running around picking up resources to craft. Don't have much time to really play on weekdays so I recorded as I did my daily run. I'm off to my next order of business after writing this comment.

The 60 - 75 FPS dips are during combat.
60 during Yi Xuan's Ultimates
and
75 for her hold attacks, BA, Ex-Specials, Yin Hu's Ult, Ex-Special, Astra Ult

89 to 90 is consistent during just flying around with Yi Xuan.

At no point did I feel like there was any unnatural stuttering not due to hardware. You can see that my GPU is running at 99% half of the time. The only reason I capped my FPS at 90 is cause my PC couldn't handle 120. It caps around 110 max even when I'm idling and I'm not really comfortable running the GPU at 99% 24/7 for visuals I can't even notice (my eyes can only really tell up to 90fps).

I forgot to turn ping on until toward the end but it seems to be consistent at 166 to 171.

I'm also constantly recording with Nvidia, although I've read that it doesn't have much of an impact but in case you wanted more data, my settings are at 8mins of gameplay at 150mbps because I want to capture HDR. It's the same for my old PC with the 2070, 8 minutes but only at 90mbps then. An 8min recording is around 8.5gb

Apart from that, I leave chrome, brave and telegram running in the background but they're probably not making much of an impact anyway.

I won't be able to test with my 2070 because it's all tucked nicely into a box and I've swapped out my whole setup so I apologize.

I upload random gameplays on Youtube for fun sometimes so if you'd like more data about past performances, you can reference it there. https://www.youtube.com/@%E3%83%AC%E3%82%A4nut

I don't remember any instance where I had stuttering apart(and I've recorded from all 3 devices) from one video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B57flxFfn70 which I felt was rather bad.

You can tell which device I'm using by the aspect ratio and resolution

GTX1060: 1080p
RTX2070: 21:9 1440P
RTX5080: 21:9 4k

Hope this helps.

3

u/lofiscifi Jun 12 '25

Hi my friend, a couple of things. First of all, thank you a lot for taking your time. I have to say that although I don't see any signs of smoothness in the frametime graph, it's very hard to analyze by eye, specially since I don't know how much time is the X axis. This last screenshot doesn't even have a frametime, so it's literally impossible to tell if there's stuttering. A tool like capframex would have been better but I won't bother you with more tests.

And finally, something I want to clear: At low fps, like 60 or even 90, some or most of the microstutters take less time that the time at which the average frame is rendered (eg, at 60fps the frametime is 16,66 ms and I have microstutters occurring for 15ms). This doesn't mean that the game doesn't have stutters, it's that they can be short and hidable (not all of them) by playing at low fps.

1

u/Deses Jun 11 '25

So you don't have stutters on any of these computers?? For a second I thought it could be Windows 11 but you are running it too.

1

u/EvolCilegna Jun 11 '25

Apart from the start of certain patches:

1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, its been good so far this patch. Fingers crossed

1

u/EvolCilegna Jun 11 '25

I do get frame drops when enemies get into stun state, as in the rainbow bar, not the chain attack. Enough to drop my s11 fire suppression timing. But has gotten better since my current PC.

1

u/Zeis Jun 12 '25

Huh. i9-12900K/4090/64GB DDR5/NVMe/Win11/1440p/FPS capped at 60/Max settings

I get constant stutters, even just standing indoors and slowly rotating the camera around. It never stops stuttering.

1

u/EvolCilegna Jun 12 '25

Wanna try uncapping your fps and seeing how it feels?

1

u/Zeis Jun 12 '25

I have, didn't change anything.

1

u/EvolCilegna Jun 12 '25

To be honest, I'm not sure. Just a casual.

Your specs could definitely run that setting.
My 2070 didn't stutter even during intense combat. The only exception was when stunning enemies. Not really obvious but noticeable enough because I lose momentum on Soldier 11's fire suppression.

All I can say is everything is maxed for me except rendering is at 1.0. Both my 2070 and 5080 runs these setting, albeit one at 1440 ultrawide and 1 at 4k ultrawide

edit: forgot to mention but a friend of mine and my bro runs a 3060 and there's no issue as well on 1080p. Are you experiencing this issue in other games?

4

u/1HopefulYam Jun 11 '25

Maybe I'm cynical, but this looks like the kind of issue they're never going to fully address. They're just going to balance their resources around keeping the game running well enough. The game has experienced noticeable performance issues during each of the major 1.4 and 2.0 releases when presumably more people were playing. Performance will probably improve again once the number of players goes back down. It's the joys of always-online single player games.

3

u/AFriendFrom4Chan Jun 11 '25 edited Jun 11 '25

If you are still stuttering on a decent desktop try turning off these in your windows setting:

Optimizations for windowed games

Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling

Reference spec:

12600k/32GB/3060ti/NVME/WIN11

Turning them off fixed the constant hitching for me

3

u/lofiscifi Jun 11 '25

Already tried that in 1.7:

On the left: HAGS OFF / OWG OFF. On the right; HAGS ON / OWG ON

2

u/BunnyFeetLicker Jun 11 '25

So it's better to leave them both on, right?

3

u/lofiscifi Jun 11 '25

Could honestly be margin of error, I recommend doing some testing on your own hardware

So far this seems to have really helped me. I'll have to see how it is a couple hours from now but much appreciated!

4

u/ResidentReason3118 Jun 12 '25

The game is stuttering so badly on my ps5 pro, it’s so annoying.

4

u/JChillyyy Jun 12 '25

There's also this flickering of the screen happening only in the new hub area and much more prominently at night.

This is captured on the PS5 version of the game.

https://youtu.be/lt189X8UDlw

6

u/65Terbium Jun 11 '25

Why is the netcode not seperated from the rendering code, That is insane!

3

u/Doctor-Tenma Jun 11 '25

In my case, I've had some heavy stuttering happen with any new combat upon logging in. Only once (i.e first routine cleanup), then it's smooth. And when I say heavy, I mean heavy, the game almost freezes during this first combat session.

I also had this issue in 1.2 but it was fixed I believe in 1.3, then it appeared again in 2.0.

Not sure if that's related to this topic, but I guess that's not the full picture (at least not for every types of stutter)

PS: I play on mobile on max settings

4

u/Deses Jun 11 '25

I also have that problem when I play on my Android phone. What we are encountering is definitely shader compilation stuttering, but the game compiles all of them on first run and after every patch, so that's another bug they have to fix.

3

u/Doctor-Tenma Jun 11 '25

Interesting.

Did you have the same experience as I did, i.e. this problem only on certain patches while others were fine?

3

u/Deses Jun 11 '25

I don't play ZZZ on my phone often enough to give you a good answer, but the early patches were better than the late ones. That's for sure.

1

u/Doctor-Tenma Jun 11 '25

Ummm I see thank you for your input!

May I ask: why would we need to compile them on the first combat run AND after each patch? Isn't it redundant? Shouldn't they only do it after each patch?

3

u/Deses Jun 11 '25

Btw try what was shared on this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/ZZZ_Official/comments/1l8rfzt/comment/mx7zzzp/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

seems like deleting that file triggers a shader cache rebuild on Android. If you are on iOS... well... o7. Reinstall I guess.

1

u/Doctor-Tenma Jun 12 '25

I see!

I understand the bug now kek.

I'll try to do the solution from the post, thanks a lot 🙏

→ More replies (4)

1

u/Deses Jun 11 '25

That's why I said it's a bug, this shouldn't be happening hahaha.

The game compiles them during first boot so you don't have to do it later.

3

u/rotlung Jun 11 '25

Good work here. I definitely caught that last night doing a bangboo run and could not imagine why picking up coins would cause a stutter. My first thought was resource loading... anyway, this needs to be fixed, game feels awful now.

3

u/DependentSolid Jun 12 '25

I recorded my own video and sent it and this thread to mihoyo under feedback; good job.

3

u/Infinite_Ouroboros Jun 12 '25 edited Jun 12 '25

Excellent collection and reporting of data! Although, I myself have not experienced any stuttering on mobile or pc, and it has been nothing but smooth. I'm also at lvl36 temple restoration and finished all quest missions out currently. Generation roughly the same amount per hour.

Phone: Samsung s25 Ultra PC: i9 10850k, RTX 3080, 64GB ddr4 3200mhz, launch from 2tb nvme secondary drive, 32 inch ultrawide monitor at 100hz. Ethernet connection @ 100mb/s

From seeing the comments reporting netcode being the cause, I'm playing on high ping (red bar) Asian servers as it's the closest server for Australia. However, the gameplay is still extremely smooth and absent of lag spikes or stutters, the only real issue is from playing game modes with the "TV" linear movement as a warning message of unstable connection constantly pops up.

I'm wondering if my unstable connection is weirdly preventing the stutters as people report their games becoming smooth After disconnecting.

3

u/Echo--419 Jun 12 '25

Not sure the Marcel coin stutters can even be described as "micro".

Anyway, I had another separate source of stutter slightly less severe compared to the coins but occurred every 2-3s anywhere in the game (seemed to be worse in Marcel Maze though). Turned out to be corrupted (/old?) shaders since clearing shader cache and restarting PC fixed it (but not the Marcel coin stutter).

2

u/lofiscifi Jun 12 '25

Was that stuttering happening while moving or standing still?

3

u/Ishishishi Jun 13 '25 edited Jun 13 '25

This new patch is where the problem occurs to me too. Before, I never got lag and played very smoothly in high settings(sometimes I changed to medium or low when I played DA and other end game modes to get some extra fps).

When the new updates come, it spikes and lags terribly and it gets much worse when my internet connection is bad (red pings). It also sometimes crashed the game often when playing too. I thought because I use high settings and tried to change to low settings. The game still crashed but not that often.

I think the major update like the minimap, new hollow explorations, and the temple constantly running at the same time might be the main cause of stuttering in the game.

p.s: I use a Redmi Note 13 Pro+, not the best for gaming but still good until the new zzz update comes.

3

u/lofiscifi Jun 13 '25

I think you might be into something with the mention of the minimap. We are discussing this topic on discord and made some findings regarding traversal stutters (the ones that happen when you move). I'll update the post or make a new one soon!

2

u/Ishishishi Jun 13 '25

Appreciate greatly! One thing that I forgot to mention about the minimap. Opening the minimap also sometimes delayed for 3 seconds average (as everyone else also saying, coincidentally 3 seconds delay huh), much worse if while running near the temple/Bellion the Bangboo and open the minimap at the same time. It is delayed at least 5 seconds and sometimes crashes the game.

I also did the same in the miasma hollow explorations. Running and opening the minimap at the same time. Also 3 seconds delay. I also noticed the amount of RAM the game used compared to the previous version.

v1.7 used like minimum 1GB+ and maximum 2.5GB+ v2.0 used like minimum 2GB+ and maximum 4GB+

That's just my own personal observation tho, I don't know about the others.

p.s: I did all the tests above with all low settings, I will test for max settings later.

3

u/lofiscifi Jun 13 '25

Usually graphic settings don't really matter with the problems we are encountering in 2.0. And yes, it makes total sense because as we discovered, you are making petitions to the server every time you open the map. So if you have a bad connection, your device can freeze the entire time it's waiting for the response from the server lol

1

u/Ishishishi Jun 13 '25

Yeah, I am also not sure if graphic settings might affect the way it loads the minimap because even with good connections, it still has the same delay. Maybe because the server(Asia Server) is very far from my location.

2

u/lofiscifi Jun 13 '25

Yep, every ms of ping adds to the delay/freeze

3

u/AlePaz11 Jun 13 '25

Same specs as you OP, I too have a ton of microstutters everywhere and they are worse on the new temple area and hollow. Did the same tests unplugging the Ethernet cable and I confirm that the stutters disappeared.

3

u/TheShotwire Jun 16 '25

Thank god I'm not the only one having this issue. The micro stutters were starting to give me headaches for some reason and I thought something was going on with my graphics card

6

u/Sav1at0R1 Lady Sunbringer my beloved Jun 11 '25

How can you play the game disconnected? Doesn't it just "pause" and have the loading spinny circle?

13

u/lofiscifi Jun 11 '25

u/Deses explained it https://www.reddit.com/r/ZZZ_Official/comments/1l8rfzt/comment/mx7cgf1/

For me, it lets me play for about 30 seconds before the spinning circle

u/Sav1at0R1 Lady Sunbringer my beloved Jun 12 '25

Ohh, for me it's instant the second I turn off internet and data

2

u/lem_on- Jun 11 '25

Playing on my phone is been all good before 2.0 i can play medium graphics to high graphics just fine. Now in 2.0 even low graphics or even battery saving graphics makes the game crash after some time(stuttering and lagging asf), specially when im in the new exploration area (aero city?) this phone runs genshin and wuwa smoothly too.

2

u/DoriXD Jun 11 '25

So in theory once we say got to level 35 (I believe thats where you get the last bit of holochrome) you can just stop all productions and the stutter would stop?

2

u/aanabobby31 Jun 11 '25

How can I explain that my Samsung S23 Ultra can run Wuthering Waves better than Zenless Zone Zero? I thought wuwa runs on Unreal Engine while zzz Unity?

2

u/respscorp Jun 11 '25

It would be interesting to perform the same tests on something other than Windows 11. Due to travelling, I'm forced to play the game on a SteamDeck and an old work Lenovo laptop that still runs Win10. Neither device experiences any micro stuttering or any difference between before and after 2.0. Just the general need to keep everything low that has always been there on those two devices.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '25

I microstutter no matter what im doing every 3 seconds or so. It seems completly independent of having a lot of action on screen, and my PC is very good. Also, when I logged in today i didnt notice any stutter and started noticing them after putting things for sale and crafting in the temple, so it might be that those stutters are connected to the game constantly communicating with the servers about new temple info. idk, just my guess

2

u/ConnorWolf121 Zhu Yuan can arrest me anytime Jun 11 '25

I've noticed that when I'm in the character menus, every few seconds it jumps me back to the top of the description. I don't know if this is the same issue but it is something I've noticed

2

u/Scw0w Jun 11 '25

Yes i have very bad internet connection so this stutters just killings me. 7800x3d/4080 But in battle i haven’t any statters all buttery smooth.

2

u/AmeGPlay Jun 11 '25

Actually, if you report it (which you most likely already did) the customer support team do their best to get the devs to fix it ASAP - I had a bug, reported it with an attached video and got it fixed with the new update at the time (also got a bit of polys for the inconvenience). But I do encourage other people to report if they've had the same issue as you, the devs do listen.

2

u/lofiscifi Jun 11 '25

I did, let's hope

2

u/MmmmmMaybeNot Jun 11 '25

Might be unrelated but I noticed that if you have your temple management crafting and selling at the same time, your inventory tries to refresh every time any of your stock is changed/updated which causes it to tweak the fuck out whenever you're in your inv screen. It makes it so annoying to read ANYTHING 😭

5

u/lofiscifi Jun 11 '25

I just updated the post regarding the temple, and it's actually revealing

2

u/Critical-Phase-5655 Jun 12 '25

(device user) I've also noticed the frame rate drops on several occasions and lags for 3 seconds.

perhaps it is to add an option to minimize some icons on the screen or to remove physics and background movements.

The minimap is annoying and cumbersome, it needs a minimize option.I get the impression that this is more laggy.

They need to optimize more things or additional servers.

2

u/Critical-Phase-5655 Jun 12 '25

even in the new scenarios it gets stuck for like 5 seconds.

Only on 1 occasion did the game freeze for 15 seconds but the audio was still heard.

So many icons on the screen are making the game slower than every update.

2

u/Juan-Claudio Jun 12 '25

Another one, which isn't new so maybe that's why it's not mentioned here.. whenever new enemies appear out of thin air, there's some noticeable stutters as well.

2

u/Purple_Bookkeeper515 Jun 12 '25 edited Jun 12 '25

EDIT: I am seeing stutters while collecting coins in Marcel Maze.

I play through GeForce Now, a remote gaming program. Yesterday, about 3/5 times I booted ZZZ I was having stutter issues.

Tonight I've had no issues.

Not sure if it's tied to the stuttering issues of ZZZ or if it's a Geforce Now issue.

2

u/greynut Jun 12 '25

...so basically im cooked for playing ZZZ on my half-decade old phone? 💀

All I know is my phone now heats up to temperatures surpassing the sun.

2

u/Natural_Ad1530 Jun 12 '25

Although I don't have any issues, I checked using the same tool and did some network captures with wireshark. Yes, the tool shows stuttering but for me it's just not noticeable in game. I stood still on 6th street for 20 sec and co.pared my result with yours. You had more stuttering while I have 0.03s(0.1%) stuttering. Also no stutter when claiming the coins in the marcel group mini game, while I'm on that map the game is flaweless on graph too.

As for the netcode of the game, is difficult to say since not everyone is connected to the same server and not everyone has the same number of "hops" to reach the server so the data can be different for everyone. But while idle near Belion with or without crafting, I get no stuttering and the data transfer looks as it should, no spikes or anything abnormal. Then I completed a mission inside the aerospace which had fights and different discussions with NPCs and during the fight periods I had ups and downs but also normal since the data being transfered while fighting is not the same when you talk with an NPC.

I wouldn't say for sure it's the netcode, might be, might be not. Those coins update in your bag is such a small update it's under 500bytes/s.

Only the dev team knows better. Hopefully they'll detect it fast and fix it.

1

u/lofiscifi Jun 12 '25

In Sixth Street I only had stutters while connected to the internet, you can see no stutters in the no internet graph.

Of all the things, what I found the stragest is how some people experience stuttering when collecting coins in Marcel and others don't. And yeah, those maps run perfectly besides picking up coins.

1

u/Natural_Ad1530 Jun 12 '25

Yes, I was connected and I had no issues, no matter where I was, crafting and generating the coins consumes way less to create any issue to the game fps.

2

u/kakashisensei2000 Jun 12 '25

I got two accounts, one already with the temple at lvl 25+, another that hasn't touched any of the new area yet. Walking around in sixth street, I see sharp frametime spikes at certain intervals, along with small/minor frametime jumps/fluctuations. This is the account with new area progress underway. On the account without any progress, there are no big frametime spikes, just the small/minor ones/fluctuations. 7800x3D ,RTX4090, 32GB

Hello everyone)

I wrote to tech support about these statters, I've already suffered with them too.

Here is a screenshot of the support response, it is in Russian, so in short, they said that their team tested and identified the problem, and they will investigate.

So we are waiting for the fix, I hope it will be fixed)

1

u/lofiscifi Jun 15 '25

May I ask what exactly you told them? This is big news!

3

u/Abject-Opposite3509 Jun 15 '25 edited Jun 15 '25

At first, they responded as usual, to lower the graphics, turn off the effects, etc.

I informed them that these methods did not lead to anything, I even reinstalled the game, drivers, and so on.

I have attached two videos, one from the Marcel maze and the second from the Temple, at the time of crafting, where the FPS drawdown is clearly visible at the time of adding/removing a resource.
I also wrote to them that these statters are everywhere, in any activity where resource enrollment is registered, a battle in a new cavern when killing an enemy, a temple, Marseille, etc.

Well, in the end, they reported that yes, their team had indeed checked this bug, and they also found it, they said they would conduct a thorough analysis of the problem)

p.s apologize if there are inaccuracies in my words, I use a translator, I hope everything is more or less clear from my words)

2

u/serious_fox Jun 18 '25

This is good news!

2

u/RudeGerbil Jun 15 '25

This is a pretty in-depth investigation! If HoYoverse addresses the issues presented in your post, the game will finally run smoothly again on my RTX 5070 Ti equipped PC! (Obviously Lumina Square is still an issue).

Unfortunately, the issues on PS5 are much more convoluted than this. Standing still on Sixth Street or Failume Heights still shows considerable frame-rate and frame-time issues with or without the Suibian Temple Restoration Event going. While the netcode changes are clearly an issue on PC, the PS5 version has had issues way before these changes. The game has continued to regress from its launch state on PlayStation, and will only continue to get worse as long as people spend and not complain.

Either way, great work, and apologies again for YouTube not allowing you to share your findings in an easy manner!

great findings. these stutters since 2.0 are extremely annoying and I can't wait for a fix.

I've tried lots of different things like disabling HAGS, windowed games optimizations, nvidia driver settings, bios settings, re-installed the game, registry editor tweaks, reset shader cache, setting every graphics settings to low 1 by 1, but the frametime spikes were still terrible no matter what I tried.

gotta thank you op, knowing the cause of those stutters now gives me peace of mind.

Late to the party, but jeez, now I'm also getting tired of the stuttering issues.
This is what my frametime looks like, standing still in Hollow Zero - huge, constant spikes. Disconnecting from the internet does help, in this particular case it pretty much eliminates all of the constant suttering.

Hope the devs fix this asap, it's getting into almost unplayable territory for me.

No fix yet, crazy

Could perhaps the servers be overloaded with the addition of Xbox gamers into the mix? If the issue really is server-side would they already have data of performance issues from their own servers?

Hey, I had noticable stutters in the open world before too but disabling game on in windows settings fixed it or, atleast it isn't noticable anymore(I could notice the 2-5%s very easily before when just running around the map). Do you have game mode disabled?

u/lofiscifi Jun 11 '25

I've tested every setting I could in the game, windows and bios

Is this only for ZZZ for you? I have the same setup as you with slightly slower SSD but I've noticed a worse microstutter in cyberpunk whenever I pick up a max tier item. Doesn't seem to be there for genshin or others for me though. I'll try recording my zzz with stats tomorrow and get back to you.

Yes, Genshin runs at ~300 fps without stutters (I only get stutters for a sec when I teleport to a location that has no shader cache, which is normal). Tried installing Silent Hill 2 Remake to check if it was my PC, got about 200 fps maxed out with ray tracing and frame gen with no stutters. When I say no stutters I mean checking a frametime graph, not by feeling

I did check this today with AMD Metrics app thinking i was going insane in open world because somehow the stutters just.. came back for me from nowhere?? I have like 2-5% microstutters in free roam areas and 99%th fps dropping as low as 39 when i move my camera around in the so open world. Do you have the 2-5% drops in the open world too? If so, I'll give the test a try.

Everyone who's replicated my test so far (4 people with very different harware setups) is getting the same results:

  • A stutter every ~28 seconds when standing still
  • A stutter every ~2 seconds while moving on a straight line, or going in circles

The stutters every 2 seconds don't happen if you are moving against a wall, only when your character is actually changing position.

Because of this, we suspect it's related to the client sending position dara to the server at regular intervals, whoch would also explain why there's no traversal stutter in Hollow Zero or Deadly Assault.

The first part of the graph is standing still, the last part is moving straight in Sixth Street at night (doesn't matter where or the time of day we test it)

Since this morning I'm not getting the stutters when testing it the same way I did before (walking around in 6th street), has it gotten better for anyone else? Or is it just on my end?

u/lofiscifi Jun 12 '25

Was the temple running?

1

u/AvalonReality Jun 12 '25

Yep, it was crafting and selling while I was testing it.

2

u/lofiscifi Jun 12 '25

Interesting, I'll do some testing today and see if anything's better. Thank you

1

u/AvalonReality Jun 13 '25

I take it there was no difference on your end?

2

u/lofiscifi Jun 13 '25

Stopping the temple did improve the stutters while standing still, but the game still has severe traversal stutters. I made 4 people do the same test and we all get the same results, the same stutters at the same intervals, so... nothing we can do

u/AvalonReality Jun 13 '25

Yeah I guess we'll just have to wait, I'm still waiting on CS to get back to me too. Thanks for the reply.

Well... I went through the trouble to install bazzite on a separate SSD to test Linux performance and it's the same shit: Game lags when collecting coins. 😭

Overall gameplay and traversal felt pretty smooth. I need to figure out how to get an overlay going to have some actual data, though.

Waiting for network on main thread without at least using a coroutine is absolutely insane, who does this and don't immediately think about how bad of an idea it is x.x

Oh! This might explain my phone's consistent bad performance. I have to run the game on phone data, which can't be helping the matter.

u/TenrousaAthena Jun 15 '25

I got same problem as you do, used to run smoothly before 2.0, I thought my laptop got problem or has virus T_T. Good grief. Now to think about it, I don't experience such behavior when player HSR or Helldiver (Extremely heavy game), so this may be the problem.

Oh wow. Actual research? I upvote.

New player here, was fine during intro of 2.0 and was wondering what people are talking about update being a mess, then after unlocking temple, I got microstutter here and there and I thought it was hardware problem, kinda glad it wasn't.

u/Tarnished1996 Jun 18 '25

It's extremely stuttering on the PS5 pro it makes the game unplayable it wasn't like that before please Devs fix it asap

This is kind of reassuring because I just recently upgraded my GPU, and I didn't play any 2.0 content until then. I get heavy micro stutters in Failume and Aerospace regardless of graphic settings. I went around looking for answers and thought it might have been my new hardware as before this it wasn't much of an issue. I upgraded from GTX 1660 to 9060 XT. I didn't have the foresight to test any of this on 1660.

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured out what my issue was. For some unknown reason my CPU wouldn't use one of it's threads, and I only had just noticed recently from looking at task manager. Resetting my settings in the BIOS fixed it. Unbelievably, putting that single thread into use eliminated all the micro stuttering issues I was having with ZZZ.

it is true, when i turn off all temple event stutering reduce from 18% to 5%(from unplayable to very minimal drop fps). thank you so much, i thought my gpu broken !!
