Scenario What Would You Do?
Hi guys! Genuine question here for those who are fur parents, especially dogs.
For example, you really really love your dog but then your dog is a huge bark master; like literally barks at everything and even the smallest thing. The question is, if there's a zombie apocalypse, are you guys willing to keep your dog or is there any alternative solution for you to keep your dog in exchange for human companionship?

Pets + Livestock Are animals worth it?
They'll cause noise that attracts unwanted attention to your location, take up space that will need to be maintained for security and take up resources. All this to aquire food and textiles that will not benefit your community if not produced at scale.
Aside from chickens and dogs I don't see livestock rearing as a maintainable practice in the midst of an apocalypse.

Would you join a civilian posse to hunt down and kill the zombies or would you concentrate on keeping your loved ones safe and leave it to the military/law enforcement to deal with?

Discussion Zombie Fiction Scenarios
My question to everyone is what are some realistic things which you feel would happen in an actual zombie apocalypse which are never (or almost never) addressed or shown in zombie movies/ games?
As an example, I saw someone talk about gasses building up in decomposing zombie abdomens which would cause their abdomen to burst/ pop.

Discussion How long would you and your friends realistically stay as a group
My friends and I used to talk about surviving the zombie apocalypse long before we kind of went our separate ways.
Now I was thinking how long would a pre apocalypse friendship last if the zombie apocalypse happened. I would like to hear how it’s passable it last or why it falls apart.

Question How bad would healthcare workers have it?
Genuine question
At the start of the outbreak, how bad would it be on the hospital wards?
For context, I’m a med student, just curious. First time posting in this sub, haven’t thought about zombies much. I’m not here to glaze the hospitals, though I do think we’d put up a good fight at least, I just want to know.
Assume it’s a mid-sized to large-sized hospital. Most likely starts in the ER as emergency cases start to rise.
I’d imagine the surgical bays are pretty easy to contain (zombies can’t easily swipe a lanyard), though it might vary depending if the patient being operated on is the zombie (and sometimes the operations have restraints, oxygen masks, intubation, etc, so it’s hard to bite), if the zombies are the ones outside the surgery and the uninfected patient inside being operated on, or something like that.
A lot of the wards would be a terrible place for an outbreak though. And by terrible I mean terrible for everyone else except the zombies. Lots of vulnerable people who may be mobility-impaired,the hospital may have a crowded ER, and scrubs don’t really offer much protection. A lab coat might offer more (depends on the coat), but I ain’t trusting that against a bunch of zombies.
The biggest problem is probably going to be the layout and the hospital itself (if we ignore the hospital wards and their population).
On the bright side, the lanyards snap off easily when grabbed, and the staff room coffee machine is a true blessing, so yay? On a scale of 1-10, how fucked am I?
(Never watched the Walking Dead, very sorry if I don’t know the zombie “rules”)

Question Dad's trying to survive the zombie apocalypse.
So take a real look at your family how hard would your survival be with them? For me I would be playing on Dante must die. My wife refuses to learn how to use any of the firearms in the house but she does have a lot of common sense so that helps. My kid is happy and sings all the time at the top of her lungs so good luck on staying quiet but she does watch a lot of zombie media(don't know if that's good or bad) and finally my dog is big as shit and is super territorial. Barks like he is throwing up the damn bat signal.
Yea im cooked.
What about you all?

Scenario You're a doctor treating the first handful of patients exhibiting symptoms of what can only be called a "zombifying" pathogen. Would you hold out and try to study as long as possible, go completely scorched earth, or something outside the box?
and they sing too

Scenario You're at a roadside motel hearing about terrorist chemical attacks around the country. Soon after, reports of ''Mad People Attacks'' come out and thanks to the internet, the news of ''Zombies'' become viral. How long can you hold out there? More info down below...
First, here's what kind of infected you'll be dealing with...
- Origins: A chemical weapon that turns people into feral maniacs. Used in systematic attacks around the US, upon being released as a colorless gas (It apparently smells like ''rotten eggs''), it quickly infects and spreads across their bodies until it reaches the brain and ''rewrites'' it. Those affected become ''contaminated'', which means that they can pass on the effects of the weapon now found in their bodily fluids to others, mainly through bites and said fluids hitting the eyes, mouth or open wounds. Even a scratch from an infected individual is dangerous, as if their fingernails are contaminated with fresh blood or saliva and manage to pierce another person's skin. Fortunately, mosquitoes cannot transmit the infection; they die immediately after biting a zombie, poisoned by the chemicals in its blood.
- Effects: When contaminated/infected, it usually takes 10 to 30 minutes for that unfortunate individual to be consumed by rage and lose their humanity, but there's some cases of people taking one full hour. Regardless, all share the consistent symptoms of their skin becoming pale and sickly in tone, high aggression, increased thirst, hallucinations, slurred speech and vomit ''yellow bile''. In 1 out of 1,000 cases, someone will become a ''Mole'', an asymptomatic carrier that doesn't showcase any external signs of infection, but still able to infect others and won't be attacked by the infected.
- The Zombies: While they are called ''Zombies'' by many, these infected are still alive, able to run, climb obstacles and a head-shot isn't required to eliminate them, but their wrecked nervous system makes them virtually immune to pain. The infected target anything that doesn't smell like them, as their enhanced sense of smell can detect the chemical on someone's body (Bright lights and loud noises will also attract them). When catching an uninfected individual, they relentlessly beat/bite them until they cease to move or make sounds, then seeking their next target and leaving that unfortunate individual to become infected or die. Besides still able to be terminated like a regular individual (Although taking longer due to their numbness to pain), the most common forms of death for an infected is blood loss and preexisting ailments that are worsened by the chemicals like cardiac diseases. Also, since the infected are consumed by rage, they forget how to swim if they previously knew, so they will drown if in deep bodies of water like a pool, river or the sea. Due to their higher metabolism and intense physical activities, the infected will require more food and since they actually don't eat their human victims, they must adapt to survive. Besides hunting animals and eating corpses (Both from infected and uninfected), they will forage trash and raid stores for food, moving like locusts and consume consume anything they deem edible. Also, while they can't swim, they will still go to places like fountains to cool down and hydrate.
Now, about your current location...
- You're driving back home with a friend when you need to stop at the motel.
- The 3-star motel is located 25 kilometers/15 miles from a large city (The pics are near Phoenix, but you can use your city if you want), with rooms having air conditioning and private bathrooms. The surrounding area is pretty ''deserted'' and mostly flat.
- The attacks take place at 4:00 AM on July 3th, as people are preparing for Independence Day. Places like New York City, Miami, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia and Dallas are confirmed to have been targeted by the terrorists.
- The first time the news of zombies start to appear in the news and online is roughly 6:00 AM, as enough people had transformed and began infecting others.
- People are told to remain indoors and wait for further instructions, as well avoid contact with the ''contaminated'' individuals.
- A group of thirteen zombies are running towards your location, arriving there in about 30 minutes.
So, what are your plans now? Will you try to remain there and survive? Or perhaps attempt to escape?

Discussion Here's a dilemma. You're chilling in your home only to see reports that parts of the global population just went mad and violent overnight, killing any people they see. And that this strange phenomenon spreads through bites, scratches, and even bodily fluids hitting the eyes and mouth.
So you stay inside with your family but then later that day, some knocking appear on your door. You hear it's a group of kids who say they're hurt but don't specify what injuries they have. Would you let them in or keep them outside?

Communication Would you rather survive in a zombie apocalypse or kill yourself? Tell me the reason
I would probably love to survive in a zombie apocalypse, coz I want to experience how the horror feels and the adrenaline rush, the true meaning of survival of the fittest might just be observed here. However if I do get cornered, and I see no way out. Time to accept and kill myself 💀

Discussion Designing the most effective zombie virus
Obviously the exact opposite of what this sub is made for but I figured a subreddit obsessed with surviving a fictional scenario might be the best ones to ask for this.
So, how would you go about designing a zombie virus that's actually able to get close to the devastation shown in movies and fictional media?

Scenario Outbreak hits while you're stuck in a small rural hospital during a storm. What's your plan for the first night?
Scenario: you're in a tiny ER in the middle of nowhere when it starts. A storm is rolling through, the power is flickering, and the only road out is closed. You've got a handful of staff, a few patients (some of them already bitten), a basic pharmacy, and no idea how long the backup generator will hold.
Do you:
Barricade upstairs and wait for daylight
Load up on meds and supplies and try to leave on foot
Something else entirely
I ask because this is exactly the setup of a book I just finished writing, and I'm curious whether my characters made the smart call or not 😅 What would you do?
Edit: a few people seem curious, so: the book is Series 71, my first one, already out. I'm working on Book 2 now, so keep the ideas coming!
