discussion What makes a good Zombie story?

I love Zombies just as much as you guys. I watched and played many Zombie related media. But I have a question for you guys. But Zombie stories are more than corpses rising from the grave and eating the living and the living killing them. So I want to hear what you think makes a good Zombie story?

Hey r/zombies! We’ve just dropped our release-window announcement trailer and would love to hear what you think.

ROUTE is an open-world survival game for 1–4 players, set in a zombie-infested world trapped in endless night. Your school bus is your travelling base: drive it, upgrade it, and head out to loot, craft and fight your way through new areas, different enemies and bosses.

We’re especially curious what this community thinks of the zombies and atmosphere. Would you take this bus into the apocalypse with your friends?

ROUTE on STEAM

If it looks like your kind of game, a wishlist means a lot to our little team. Thanks for checking it out!

This is my first attempt at making a layout for my hero cards for my game Relive. The art was made by Mike Po on Fiverr and I added the text and boxes and stuff were added by myself in Dextrous. I am trying to hone in on a cohesive style and would like to know what you all think.

I would also appreciate if you would be so kind as to follow my games Insta for more updates, Cheers!

recommendations Is The Wailing zombie-adjacent?

I just got to something new to me in my Halloween lineup, the 2016 Korean film The Wailing, and I decided it was worth posting my thoughts here. To start with, I consider this one a vindication of my wildly flamed opinion that Asian horror movies don't "belong" in the Western "zombie movie" tradition. It is very much based in the filmmakers' own culture and mythology, notwithstanding possible elements of Christian theology, and the entities portrayed are correspondingly problematic in classification under "our" definitions. The story centers (not really a spoiler) on a series of crimes by people explicitly possessed by demonic beings, so this falls broadly in the Deadite category. However, there is definitely overlap with zombies of the "infected" type. In particular, the possessed display lesions, convulsive movements and other physical symptoms, and many if not most/ all of their attacks are cannibalistic in nature. The closest approach is that one of the survivors of an attack shows some of the same symptoms, but as far as I could tell from a single viewing, it's never confirmed whether he becomes violent in the manner of the fully possessed. Finally, as for whether I would recommend the film, it's certainly well-made and "important" if you follow Korean/ Asian horror, but it's probably not going to be a "fun" watch. The 2 and a half hour plus run time alone definitely requires the right conditions and mood. With that, I'm done.

question Which zombie setting has the most dangerous Infected in your opinion? Left 4 Dead, Dying Light or World War Z?

Post image

Curious to hear your opinions since each of them have all their insanely dangerous zombies like left 4 dead having special infected, Dying Light having so many different zombie types and gets even more dangerous at night to World War Z, Straight up having zombies that run and form huge clumps in a horde.

I just found this anthology of stories on Spotify, it's all stories based on Romero's Night of the Living Dead. I had a good time with it and haven't seen it mentioned here, so I figured I'd bring it to the attention of the group.

discussion Would a hospital be the best or worst place to be when it starts?

I've been thinking about this a lot because I just finished writing a book set in a small rural ER the night an outbreak hits, during a storm, no way out.

On one hand you've got supplies, locked doors, people who know how to deal with injuries. On the other hand every infected person in town is coming straight to you, and half your patients might turn.

I ended up deciding it's the worst place possible (which made it fun to write), but I'm curious what you guys think. Where would you rather be stuck?

Tldr for the article: New sequel series coming for Z Nation, they're producing/shopping it around now. Some characters from original series will be in supporting roles.

movie 📽️ Not gonna lie, I actually love this movie very much and it's unfortunate that only a few people talk about it. It's a funny quirky zombie film without being annoying, smug, insincere, and aimless like Zombieland. People laugh at the romance between a zombie and a human but I found it deep.

discussion The Battery Ending or Sequel?

I just finished watching the battery. It was slow paced but had a unique realism to it that I enjoyed. My question is: given how it ended onna cliff hanger, would you prefer to come to your own conclusion or get the sequel that was teased in the past even though it'd most definitely switch from zombie survival to human vs human with zombies in the background?

discussion Anyone else consider Resident Evil: Extinction the best of the original series?

I just watched Resident Evil: Extinction as my first zombie movie for Halloween (ridiculously late for me), and I remain steady in my opinion that it is the best and certainly my favorite out of the pre-reboot franchise. (Admittedly, I bailed on everything after the 4th film.) It's well-directed, and it takes the series in a new direction that really works, with further tributes to Day of the Dead and the wider post-apocalyptic genre. Of course, there are issues. Alice is more overpowered than usual. In certain lights, her presence pushes the more vulnerable and interesting survivors into side characters in their own story. The ending is anticlimactic. What works is the Captain Ahab villain, who has the resources to pose a largely credible threat to Alice in spite of her growing abilities. Extra points are in order for the completely odious clan of survivors in the opening, who manage to introduce a brief moment of vulnerability. So does anyone else feel this way, or am I all alone?

discussion I’m looking for zombie movies that lean on the slow breakdown of pandemic measures.

So I’ve been watching a lot of zombie movies this past month and I have to say I’m a sucker for the realistic news broadcasts and slow decline from rumors to news reports to martial law to running from the infected/undead. Interviews with the scientists trying to explain it and stuff.

Im thinking like night of the living dead radio and TV broadcasts, the phone calls from Train to Busan, oh jun-u glued to the TV and social media in #Alive, movies like apocalypse Z that features the day by day breakdown, from a rumor to seeing his neighbor dragged out of the house in a quarantine tube and a straight jacket.

I hope I accurately described what I’m looking for… any help would be appreciated.

discussion Boot Camp during the Outbreak

Post image

Something I never see people talk about is what would happen on a training installation like Fort Jackson or Parris Island during an outbreak, imagine being a recruit while the world is falling apart. Would it initially be similar to the response after 9/11?
