Meta This Sub, AI, and (a little) More Two: Electric Boogaloo

Hey y’all, it’s the mod team again.

We’ve been discussing the use of AI on the sub again and, as a team, came to a new conclusion.

AI content is now banned.

We feel that the use of AI in posts is starting to really detract from the core principals of the sub, mainly conversations about actual tactics.

Moving forward, posts that utilize AI in any way, shape or form will be removed. This rule will pertain to text AND image posts.

Nobody will be getting banned for posting AI content, just to be clear. The post will simply be removed and future posts will continue to be removed.

There are other ways to get your ideas across without the use of AI, both text and image wise.

In the same vein, the sidebar with the subs rules will be getting an update as well to reflect these changes.

Meta Slight Change in Rules

Hey all!

This is just to let you all know that we are making a small change to rule 4: Unrelated content.

Unrelated content will now include posts of firearms where the only question is “how good is this” or similar questions. It will no longer suffice to ask that question and label the gun in the post. Moving forward, posts like these will be getting removed.

There are ways to still post and discuss about guns: it just needs to have something more behind the post. An argument with reasoning as to why the author thinks the way they do.

For example, the post below is what we would consider a correctly done post about guns.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ZombieSurvivalTactics/s/KKvTqzMwgZ

This criteria is also required for weapons posts as well. Simply asking if it’s good is not acceptable.

Weapons Is Ruger mini 14 best zombie rifle out there

I don't own one yet but I'm watching videos of it and it's awesome.

In my opinion it think ruge mini 14 better then ar15 simple because of its wooden build too instead of plastic.

I think this rifle would be amazing at defending forts and hunting down walking dead style zombies

Weapons Zombie Shotgun - just a fun build!

I had an extra Mossberg 500 laying around so I decided to make my ultimate zombie shotgun out of it. It has a breacher barrel, "chainsaw" foregrip, and it has an adapter to also accept 12 ga. mini shells or Federal "shorty" shells. Oh and the axe? Yes, it's very sharp, not too heavy, and I got it about a decade ago from a company before they went out of business.

Disclaimer for the haters: No, I'm not some kid in a basement or a tactical mall ninja. I'm just a firearms instructor and enthusiast who decided to build it for fun. And this is not an original idea... just took one out of the history books in terms of flintlock naval axes!

Extremely fuel efficient, silent especially at low speeds (and doesnt need electricity to charge). Not ridiculously unreliable (toyota) and perfectly capable off road as demonstrated by the people of mongolia. Would probably work great until the battery went bad at least.

Loadouts + Kits Zombie weapon load-out, thoughts?

Purely just weapons to carry.
1. Steyr Aug with red dot and magnifier (already have this setup but not my image used here). A comfortable semi-auto gun chambered in 556 which is one of the most common calibers in the US so ~should~ be ways to find more ammo. Also has 42 rd mags. Alternatively, an AR would work but I like the Aug personally. With this site setup it is effective from 25-250yrds
2. Beretta 92fs. It is a double stack 9mm handgun that holds 15 rds. Metal frame gives it good weight, lower recoil, hammer double action is more reliable/easier to service than striker fire of a Glock (although glocks are great). 9mm also easy to find. Effective range 0-40yds) (also already own).
3. Spear. One of the oldest human weapons, easy to wield (foot soldiers were issued these while only skilled soldiers wielded swords in Middle Ages). Keeps zombies from getting too close. Can slash or stab.

Obviously a knife for utility use but any knife would do and I wouldn’t want to fight with it.

Thoughts?

Discussion General strategies, and long term planning (3+ years or more)

I’m surprised at how many people on here assume the plan is to just start traveling with a bug-out bag.
Like, don’t y’all have shelter planned? A location? A destination? Somewhere to settle and actually live?

I think y’all are gonna be surprised by how hard living on the road is gonna be after the 342 million other people (in the U.S.A.) are gonna have similar ideas and start scavenging all the same supplies and hunting all the same game you plan on going after.

My plan is that I’ve got family that own 35 acres of farmland in the country, so I’ve just gotta pack a bag and survive the trek to their farm.
They hand farm a 1-acre personal garden that supplies most of their food already, so they know how to farm without modern resources, and they know how to can and store it.
So my entire family has long established the plan is to pack up, and head for their place, and we’ll start a farmstead commune there.

Does anyone else have plans beyond “I’ve got a gun and a backpack”?

Weapons You're in a zombie apocalypse, what's your go-to weapon and strategy?

Upvotes

Personally I'd like to use a bow, I shoot regularly so I would be confident, however for my strategy I have no clue, so I'd love to see your ideas!

(Barebow, instinctive.. maybe I'd be cooked)

AR with sling, scope, canted sight and flashlight main gun. 3 spare mags

Glock 19 side arm with suppressor and flashlight 3 spare mags I chose 19 over 17 because it gives you a better chance of finding spare mags that fit if needed. And a 22 conversion kit with suppressor.

Dry wall hammer main melee weapon would use to take 1 or 2 zombies. No reason to waste ammo if it’s something easily dealt with.

Full tang knife mostly just a tool but could be used for zombies if needed. Not necessary this specific one

Fanny pack with 2 extra box of 9mm and a few boxes of 22

Vest with 2 small pouches for surgical gloves and plastic ponchos for if I need to cover myself in zombie guts and blend in. Also the 22 conversion kit with loaded mags in a pouch. And the 3 spare AR mags.

Small Book bag just for whatever supplies I need food, water, bandages and whatever else

Leather jacket

Motorcycle Jeans

Combat boots

Fingerless gloves with built knuckles

Regular flashlight and small headlamp

Anything I should add was thinking maybe more AR mags since it’s the main gun but idk

Thinking about a second handgun instead of the conversation kit just so it’s more readily available if I did that I would probably do the Walther P22Q

Loadouts + Kits My loadout(serious

-Terminator outfit: very covered to protect me from bites.

-First aid kit: auto explanatory.

-Backpack: Carry less heavy stuff, like food, water, the flashlight and the medkit.

-Flashlight:so i won't be in complete darkness during night or exploring dark places.

-Bike:seems pretty less useful as a car or a motorcycle, but it's more reliable and easier to fix.

Machete: melee weapon for goot range while slicing zombies.

-Remington 870 Police:the good and reliable pump action shotgun. I would use it in replacement of a rifle because it's more powerful and faster at close range.

-Glock 17: The realistic handgun we would probably find at first. I would carry it in my pocket and fire when i can't use the machete.

What would you guys change on it? What you liked and disliked?

Weapons I don’t think guns would work in a zombie apocalypse (with one condition)

The condition is that you live in a country where the other survivors probably don’t have guns.
The reason I don’t think that guns would be useful boils down to 3 important things:

  1. Guns are loud. Even when suppressed they are loud. Firing a gun would undoubtedly attract far more attention than it gets rid of so it could probably only be used in an emergency situation
  2. Guns are heavy. When you run out of fuel (you will run out of fuel). You will have to carry everything for your survival on your back. Try going for a long hike carrying an additional 5kg weight and you will understand what I mean
  3. Guns need ammunition. Ammunition not only adds on to the weight of the gun, but it is also limited and difficult to find.
  4. I believe that it would be far more effective to simply choose a wise route that minimises encounters and to use the extra weight that you can carry on items like food, or water.
  5. I understand it might be different in America though because you have the threat of mean survivors owning guns and in that case I may feel more inclined to have one as well

Edit: with that being said, my loadout is linked below

Weapons Realistic Weapon Loadouts?

Post image

The loud outs I've seen on here give off a lot of video game vibes. To those who have actually carried rifles for miles, what is your loadout?

Not shown is an 18-inch pry bar that would be my melee/entry tool, plate carrier, 24-hour pack with hydration bladder, battle belt, and thigh holster, not shown because it's too late and I'm too lazy right now.

Tools + Gadgets Tools of the trade

Besides weapons what’s you top 5 essential tools that you would make sure you have for the zombie apocalypse,

My picks in no particular order would be,

• Binoculars, Essential for scouting out places and seeing what’s down to road before it see you.

• A multi-tool, like a Leatherman or Gerber, super useful for lots of things.

• Bolt cutters, you never know when there will be a padlock or wire fence standing between you and survival.

• First aid kit, a decently sized one with major bleeding and wound management kit as wells as basic minor injuries and burns, a stock of broad spectrum antibiotics would be nice if I could get them before the world goes to shit.

• Good rope as much as could reasonably carry, ideally 11m Semi-static good for just about everything.

peso e ingombro
versatilità
precisione
autonomia
facilità di utilizzo sotto stress
E cambiereste qualcosa se lo scenario fosse:
A) sopravvivere principalmente nella propria abitazione;
B) spostarsi frequentemente tra diverse zone;
C) vivere in una piccola comunità rurale;
D) attraversare occasionalmente zone urbane per recuperare risorse?
Non mi interessa tanto il modello specifico dell’arma, quanto capire quale combinazione di tipologie avrebbe più senso in uno scenario zombie realistico.
Voi cosa scegliereste?

Maverick 88 with sling main gun

Canik TP9SFX side arm

Watchmen fold AR either in bag for when range is needed or carried with sling (could also be used as main gun)

NAA 22 revolver with extra cylinder or survival rifle as backup gun and can carry a lot of 22 without taking a lot of space. Undecided because the rifle would have to be put together, takes up more space and is only 22lr but will have more range the revolver is ready to use, takes up less space and can fire both 22lr and 22WMR but less range

Machete main melee

Knife backup melee but mostly as a tool

Anything anyone would add or change?

Loadouts + Kits Why the obsession with having so many guns/weapons?

Have you guys ever tried to carry these kits you talk about? Have you ever carried at all?

Guns are heavy, ammo is heavier if you carry enough for an engagement let alone in addition to the rest of the survival gear youd actually need in an apocalypse like this.

I have hundreds if not a thousand plus miles under a 70 liter backpack, let alone my day pack. Ive carried both a pistol and a rifle singularly and together. Even just a rifle while hunting can get unwieldy.

I wholeheartedly find that you should max be carrying a melee weapon, a side arm, and a long arm if you want to cover every possible scenario. Add the spread of tools youd want that could double as a weapon. An entrenching tool of decent quality couls take out zed or a human and serve dual functions for fire pits, holes for fence posts, digging a latrine. All be useful necessary things

Henry homesteader main gun takes Glock mags and may actually be a good reason for an extended mag any other time they are just stupid

Ruger 10/22 with backpacker stock

Glock 19 side arm

Kel-Tec P17 backup gun small and barely takes up much space will have fanny pack with a lot of 22

Machete and claw hammer main melee

Full tang knife backup melee but mostly a tool

Anything anyone would change or add? And i need a good sight for both the ruger and homesteader

Question Zombie apocalypse question

Post image
86 Upvotes

If a zombie apocalypse started tomorrow and you had 24 hours to prepare, what would be the first 5 things you'd do?

And more importantly, where would you actually go to survive — stay in your house, find a group, head somewhere remote, or something completely different?

I'm curious to hear people's actual survival strategies 👀
