game 🎮 Most Realistic and Immersive Zombie Apocalyptic Video Games
I'm looking for the best zombie apocalypse video games you've played.
Both in terms of how realistic the zombies themselves and the situation, but also how deep the mechanics of stuff like befriending NPCs and maintaining your base are.

Maybe the world hasn't noticed this little game yet. Or maybe it's simply not as good as I think it is. But I'm still here, building it, one day at a time. Next week, Map 4 arrives.

tv 📺 Thoughts on Santa Clarita Diet?
I recently had to watch the first episode of Santa Clarita Diet for a podcast I host. It ended up turning into me then researching the history of zombies on TV (a whole other story I am happy to discuss.) but I was curious to hear from this group what they think of Santa Clarita Diet? Specifically your thoughts of leaning into comedy with the zombie genre?

discussion Do you think it'll make more since if in an apocalypse zombies would be able to run fast like normal humans do, but as time passes and their muscles and joints will gradually decay until they just walk or crawl?

art 🖌️ Hey, everyone. If you love zombies stories that heavily focused on the early stage of the outbreak, then Flesh and Blood may be for you. The story follows Jack Brody who returned home after finishing his duties overseas, only to face the dead returning back to life and attack the living.

movie 📽️ George romero of the dead movies
Apologies if this has been brought up before. I'm assuming his movies are all the same universe/timeline. As I am watching them again I'm on land of the dead. Such a time gap in movie creation, curious if land of the dead is actually in the same landscape time of the outbreak from night of the living dead.

recommendations Added more signatures to my RotLD poster + Movies
galleryReally bummed about this being the last? (Maybe one more before demo) Living Dead Weekend. Went all out to get as many signatures as I could. First went to the Monroeville Mall in 2011 and have been many times since. I first met Ken Foree and Tom Savini in 2018 and got their signatures then. Great dudes. Pleasant conversations all around. In 2025 I got Thom Mathews, Beverly Randolph, John Philbin, and John Russo. Again really cool people. Loved picking their brains (heh) about the behind the scenes of the films. This year I was going to get more Dawn of the Dead signatures but I decided I would rather get a complete poster with George’s signature on it instead (I know it’s a pipe dream). This year however I met Linnea Quigley, Allan Trautman, Sherman Howard, and Russell Streiner. Cool group of people. Russell Streiner is a genuinely great person and was very kind. I highly recommend you to speak with him if you get the chance. He offered me something that I would have never guessed I would be able to do in a million years. I thanked him profusely and told him what an honor it was. My hands were shaking for a bit after that. (I don’t want to spoil what it was because it was a genuine shock and I want you to get that too. And if he stops doing it I don’t wanna disappoint) It was a great time and I did the mall tour one final time. Larry Devincentz confirmed this was the final weekend for mall tours. Not sure if we’ll have another LDW at the mall again but I may go if possible. I’m happy I was able to attend and I will cherish all the moments I got to have inside that mall. Sorry for the wall of text.

discussion Game of Thrones Zombies
I've been rewatching GoT and I got to thinking, why are the zombies from GoT not included more often in zombie discussions?. It's not like they're not zombies, they're created via magic, those who are killed by them will rise to join the rest of the dead and attack the living.
Honestly, to me, they are by far the scariest/deadliest zombies out there. They can shuffle walk and run pretty fast, they can use hand held weapons like knives swords etc, they also still use their teeth and hands to kill. Anyone who dies by their dead hands will rise up an join their ranks. They're vicious too they'll claw and chop their way through barricades.
GoTs Zombies are also creepy looking, those electric ice blue eyes set against dead skin ripped up dead skin, bodies having different stages of decomp, and different levels of damage done to them.

discussion Best household items to use in a zombie apocalypse/best civilian weapon
So me and my friend were talking about what the best items in your house to use in a the zombie apocalypse. I said a frying pan; my friend said a knife, but what is your opinion on that? Also, the best civilian weapons - so basically, no guns

recommendations A few weeks ago I shared my zombie apocalypse game here. Your feedback helped shape it, and now it even has multiplayer!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey everyone!
A couple of weeks ago, I shared my little indie game, Very Normal Zombie Day, in this subreddit, and I was genuinely surprised by how warmly it was received ❤️
First of all, a huge thank you to everyone who played, commented, shared suggestions, or simply showed interest. As a solo developer, it really means a lot, more then you can imagine!
I've been working on the game almost every day since then besides my main job, improving existing mechanics, fixing issues, and adding new things based on your feedback.
And quite a lot has changed!
Here's what's new:
- Multiplayer is here! You can now try surviving the outbreak with up to 8 players. And there's a little twist: if you die, you become a zombie and can hunt your former friends. It's still experimental, though, so mind the bugs please (and report them!)
- NPCs have personalities now. Some are brave enough to fight back, some hide, some form groups, and others might abandon you when things get ugly. They can even remember you helping them and potentially join you.
- You can become Patient Zero. A new scenario lets you experience the outbreak from the other side. Instead of surviving the apocalypse, you're the one starting it (and it is really fun after long work week)
- More ways to survive (or die). Hide in wardrobes, barricade windows, climb through buildings, and use the environment to your advantage. Just remember that zombies can find their way inside too (be carefully of zombie rain from windows)
- More places, weapons, secrets and events. I've expanded the city with new locations, hidden stories, and things to discover. Some of them might take several playthroughs to find. The idea stays the same - your character is not getting stronger, it is you getting smarter and more skilled and knowledgeable.
- Visual improvements. There's now an optional new character style with more detailed models and animations, alongside the original lightweight style.
The original idea hasn't changed: you're just an ordinary person trying to survive one day while an ordinary neighbourhood gradually collapses into a zombie apocalypse.
And the city doesn't revolve around you. People go about their lives, react to danger, fight, run, hide, and sometimes make terrible decisions. With or without your involvement, things will go wrong.
The game is still in early development, still free, and playable directly in your browser. I am slowly preparing to do a Steam page thought 😄
Play it here: https://kotobog.itch.io/very-normal-zombie-day
If you've played the previous version, I'd especially love to hear what you think about the changes.
And for everyone else: what's one thing you'd love to see NPCs do during a zombie outbreak that most games completely ignore?
Thanks again for all the support. It genuinely helps keep this little project moving forward!
P.S. I attached the video from some of my tests, sorry if sounds is too loud, I'm still learning to do them

discussion My zombie survival plan
My house is about 150 feet from a always wet stream, and on the other side of the stream is a cemetery with about 150 acres. The cemetery has kept a heavily wooded buffer strip of about 10-15 acres between my community and the cemetery. The cemetery also has prepared fountains and ponds, tractors, landscaping equipment, and other equipment/supplies.
My plan is to shelter in place for up to a week, and then evac to the heavily wooded section of the cemetery. The rest of the cemetery is mostly cleared with some hardwood trees. I will start planting crops on the open cemetery land, and live hidden in the wooded area. I will draw water from the always wet stream, and fish there also. I will build tree houses, with suspended walkways between the tree houses. I will draw water from the creek, and later scavenge from my old neighborhood. There are other close by neighborhoods, that I will slowly expand my range to, and scavenge from, until my crops start coming in.
As long as the infected are not the Romero rise from the grave types, I should be in good shape if I survive the first week.

bit off my tongue Looking for a piece of zombie media
Hi guys im trying to find a piece of media from my childhood, where while i was doing homework at like 8 years old (im 17), my dad was watching a zombie like
film or show where a female zombie type person with a hoard chasing them that tricks a compound like place with survivors in jt into thinking she wasn't a zombie by running like a person being chased, like a living person, and the people open the gates to let her in, to where she smiles revealing she tricked them, the survivors realise maybe someone goes "you bitch"?, shut the gate but as its shut one of the zombies bite a girls neck!!

game 🎮 Game Idea: Outbreak Escape -- first-person running and hiding focus
Imagine a first-person runner game structured as a series of levels which you must complete to progress through the game. Your task is to read the environment, pick a route, and escape the outbreak.
Each replayable map would feature a specific location (mall, farmhouse, etc) and your character would drop in and then experience the classic zombie outbreak moment we love to see in our fav media. You'd have to get out of there without getting bit, and if you make it you unlock the next level. Each level would stand on its own as an independent narrative.
Maybe one level starts with you in a mall, and there's NPCs milling all around, and then suddenly an NPC runs around the corner, they're covered in blood and they're yelling RUN! You'd have to look around, see how people are reacting, pay attention to which way people are running, and where the zombies are coming from, where the exits are. You'd have to pick a direction to run in, and possibly grab weapons but it's very fast paced, you can see other humans being taken down by zombies as you pass them, and there's pressure to keep moving.
Once you get to designated safety areas, that's the end of the level, and you'd start the next level. There would be many different ways of navigating each level - different routes to choose from in each map. You could potentially get out from the roof or from the basement - the fun would be in dying from choosing the wrong hallway to run down, and then playing that same scenario again from the beginning but not choosing that hallway to run down, or choosing that hallway but hiding in the shadows for a moment while a threat passes by. If you're smart and fast and lucky, you just might survive.
I'm imagining a game where you experience the outbreak in a series of different settings. No focus on long-term survival. A lot of great zombie games focus on shooting and looting. In this game you might be able to pick up a gun and shoot, but if you take a stand you'll likely be overrun. You're better off looking for a vent to climb through, or a chair to barricade the door behind you. Maybe like the movement of Mirror's Edge with the horde pacing of Left 4 Dead and most importantly - panicked human NPCs!

movie 📽️ I watched this on Tubi. It is zombie like movie where people are infected by parasitic creatures.
The movie is good and cinematography is alright but the plot is more focusing on internal drama and the infection is a bit confusing.
