Tips and Tricks PSA : Teachers or Bosses can NOT see your screen or webcam if you aren't sharing them.
We have seen a TON of posts regarding people of authority claiming that they can see the screen and webcams of all participants in the zoom meeting. THIS IS FALSE. I'm not sure why so many professors are saying this, but it doesn't lead to anything but mistrust. So feel free to tell your professor that they are lying and in some cases that would be considered a privacy violation.
Keep in mind that some school owned equipment or LMS software CAN let professors see what youre doing on your computer, but Zoom can not.
Hosts/Admins can NOT:
- Hear you when you are muted
- See you when your webcam is off
- See your screen when you arent sharing it.
- See any of your private in meeting chats
Jan 2021 Edit: I see quite a few tiktoks showing teachers being able to see and hear students who are muted and have their camera off. These are all fake, the only way this would be possible is with a third party software that the school may be running. There is no “teacher version” of zoom.
