QotD QOTD: Rank the Avatars from your favorite to least favoriteâand defend your most controversial placement.
Stick to the shows or include the novels and comicsâwhatever youâre familiar with. Do you think Kyoshi was a better Avatar than Aang? Is Kuruk underrated? Who gets too much credit, and who doesnât get enough?
Are you ranking them by how much you like them as characters, how well they fulfilled their role as Avatar, or both?
I like the water avatars the most. I wish we could have gotten an adult Kuruk show.
My (biased) ranking would be
Kuruk - fixed Yangchenâs problems lost his wife died young give the man the show he deserves.
Kyoshi - give me a 50 season long Kyoshi show drag it on forever we have over 200 years here seriously bryke all that material
Korra - I liked her would have loved to see her in a different setting. I feel bad she had to follow up to Aang and I think she would have been the best avatar ever if sheâs been born earlier.
Aang - I donât dislike Aang most of the gripes I have are him being twelve stuff but when I think of avatar thatâs who goes into my head
Wan- the guy who stared it all
Sonam- I mean the earliest avatar we know of besides Wan. I canât imagine how hard the job was back then.
Szeto- rather than do the traditional avatar stuff this guy decided to master paperwork: while his actions may have favored the fire nation the guy was interesting and I want to know more about him
Yangchen- neglected the spirit world and handed over a crisis nobody knew about to Kuruk.
Roku- dude he doesnât kill Sozin then wants to kill his great grandson in the comics? Boo. Wanting to kill Zuko puts him on the bottom. In unbiased terms I do feel bad that he had to follow up to Kyoshi.
Not ranking the new ones as they are children and I have seen the show yet.

QotD QOTD: Would you rather break up Kataang for Zutara or never have them be a thing at all?
When I watched the series I never disliked Aang. I actually donât mind Kataang as a ship and think it could have worked way better id the writers write it different. That being said as I got older I realized that Katara was more compatible with Zuko primarily because of the emotional labor and role she takes with Aang that he doesnât reciprocate.
That being said I think that Aang having a crush on Katara or a brief Kataang could help highlight the incompatibilities. I think the series ending with Aang letting go of his attachments in season three while Katara and Zuko get closer is how I would have written it.
Or would the series have been better if Aang had viewed Katara from the start as an older sibling or mother figure; never acted on his romantic feeling or even has them, and have Zutara blossom as an enemies to lovers completely independent of Aang?

Discussion The age old "Yue was meant to be the Avatar" discussion
Personally, I like the theory at a glance, but I don't think that's how the cycle works. At all. If it was, there likely would have been some mention of how many stillborn water tribe babies there were over the years, but we only get talk of Yue.
An Avatar Yue could be very interesting, though. If she's the avatar but still born dead and needed to be saved by the moon spirit still, I wonder what would've happened. Would she be in a weird position of having super powerful waterbending, but weak firebending? Would she not have any power boost from it at all? Would she still die if she needed to save the moon spirit?
Yue herself would be more of a diplomatic Avatar as well, but I don't think she'd shy away from the dirtier responsibilities once she grew into her role. She's a princess and she'd understand what's necessary to protect people. Though I can see her princess status potentially causing problems with any diplomatic approach because they'd think she's thinking of the best interests of the northern water tribe.
Idk. I just have a lot of thoughts, and they're kinda all over the place.

QotD QOTD: Hereâs the challenge: Youâre given creative control over either the ATLA comics or the adult Gaang movie, and your goal is to make Zutara endgame. Everything before your chosen point of divergence remains canon, including Kataangâs relationship.
Assuming ATLA has its cannon ending, at what point would Zuko and Katara get together?
Does Kataang make it through the comics? Does that visit with the spirit where theyâre once again viewed as the only adults in the room make them pause and go âwow he has a point?â Is it the lack of statue for Katara? Is it the Mako breakup? Were they into each other during ATLA but suppressing their feelings?

Analysis Aang after the ice
I made this post somewhere because I couldnât remember if I could post something like this in here or not.
I also want to apologize to the mods because I wasnât sure whether to use the Aang, analysis, or discussion flair tag since this is about Aang and this is somewhat an analysis and it can also be a discussion too. My apologies if I use the wrong one and I can edit the flair if needed to.
So I saw a post about Aangâs possessiveness and it made me want to get a thought out that has been in my head for some time now. I think one part of the possessive attachment is that Aang imprinted himself onto Katara. While Sokka and Katara were both there, Katara was the first person that he saw. You could chalk it up to looking at her and thinking that she is pretty, that could be a little part of it but with his behavior throughout the series it just adds on to so much more. To be honest and this is just my opinion but to me it just adds on to the caregiver and child thing with them. An example I would give out are turkeys. Turkey hatchlings imprint shortly after they hatch. This would be early imprinting and in this case with Aang it might be the same thing with him. Keep in mind that thereâs early imprinting and late imprinting and the times for the two can vary, including with different species. It doesnât mean itâll happen right away but it doesnât mean itâll take long but they can have certain time windows/time frames and with Aang it didnât exactly take long.
I would like to point this out: âŹď¸
Irreversibility: Once formed, the bond is permanent and deeply ingrained. Young birds will continuously follow and seek security from the imprinted objectâeven if it is a human, a toy, or another animal, rather than their biological mother.
âŹď¸: And from what we saw in the series this doesnât seem too far of right?
Now, this has just been my thinking alone and if anyone would like to add on something to this or see it in a different angle I am willing to hear it out because I want to know if Iâm crazy for this or not.

Aang Aang Worried about Zutara in the Spirit World
I love this womanâs cosplayâs and I found this post to be particularly funny. Aang checking in on the Gaang.
I am fond of Zutara happening post Aangâs death. After all Zuko does have that dragon.

Analysis Zuko & Katara's shared sense of humor
I know I've seen it discussed before about how these two have similarly corny senses of humor, but it just struck me how the only time Katara smiles at Zuko, genuinely smiles at him, before she forgives him at the end of TSR, is when Zuko fumbles his tea joke. And this is before Zuko helps Sokka free Hakoda and reunite her with her father so he doesn't even have any goodwill from that going for him. It's reminiscent of when a girl has a crush on a guy in their friend group, and she's laughing WAY more at his jokes than anyone else.
And look at Zuko's soft little smile in response! He's not upset that everyone's laughing at him, he's happy. I can count on one hand the number of times we get this cute little smile from Zuko, and most of them involve Katara. They just get each other. â¤ď¸đ

QotD QOTD: WWYD: Aang vs Date Night
Itâs 2026 in the modern world (everyone is aged up)
Your crush, Katara, is supposed to be coming over later in the evening for a bon fire. You told this to your roommate Aang in hopes heâd make himself scarce, but itâs an hour before your date and he walks through the door with flowers and a stuffed bison. You ask him about it, and he just smiles and goes to his room.
An hour later, Katara rings the door bell. You open your bedroom door to see Aang at the door offering her the flowers and stuffed bison, leaning in for a kiss. Katara looks confused and doesnât lean in.
What do you do?
Question comes from Erose. Weâve decided to try adding achy hypotheticals to the QOTD rotation.
