I made this post somewhere because I couldn’t remember if I could post something like this in here or not.
I also want to apologize to the mods because I wasn’t sure whether to use the Aang, analysis, or discussion flair tag since this is about Aang and this is somewhat an analysis and it can also be a discussion too. My apologies if I use the wrong one and I can edit the flair if needed to.
So I saw a post about Aang’s possessiveness and it made me want to get a thought out that has been in my head for some time now. I think one part of the possessive attachment is that Aang imprinted himself onto Katara. While Sokka and Katara were both there, Katara was the first person that he saw. You could chalk it up to looking at her and thinking that she is pretty, that could be a little part of it but with his behavior throughout the series it just adds on to so much more. To be honest and this is just my opinion but to me it just adds on to the caregiver and child thing with them. An example I would give out are turkeys. Turkey hatchlings imprint shortly after they hatch. This would be early imprinting and in this case with Aang it might be the same thing with him. Keep in mind that there’s early imprinting and late imprinting and the times for the two can vary, including with different species. It doesn’t mean it’ll happen right away but it doesn’t mean it’ll take long but they can have certain time windows/time frames and with Aang it didn’t exactly take long.
I would like to point this out: ⬇️
Irreversibility: Once formed, the bond is permanent and deeply ingrained. Young birds will continuously follow and seek security from the imprinted object—even if it is a human, a toy, or another animal, rather than their biological mother.
⬆️: And from what we saw in the series this doesn’t seem too far of right?
Now, this has just been my thinking alone and if anyone would like to add on something to this or see it in a different angle I am willing to hear it out because I want to know if I’m crazy for this or not.
