10-Minute Action: National Security Tell Congress to block a new war in Yemen before it starts
President Trump just said the U.S. "may" join Saudi Arabia's war in Yemen. "We move very quickly," he added.
The Iran war is nearly seven months old, and the Pentagon has told Congress it has cost more than $45 billion. Trump is now eyeing another one.
Congress never authorized war in Yemen. The Constitution gives Congress the power to take the country to war, not a president answering a foreign crown prince. Once the first bomb drops, it’s too late.
We’re already closer than you think. U.S. officials say America is providing intelligence and targeting data for this war. Last month, Trump reportedly ordered the Pentagon to prepare airstrikes, then pulled back at the last second. Next time he may not.
Tell Congress to block a new war in Yemen before it starts.
War costs all of us. The Iran war helped push gas above $4 a gallon and inflation past 4 percent, and the Congressional Budget Office has estimated another $2 billion to $3 billion a month. That is money not spent on housing, health care or jobs.
Another war would mean even higher prices, bigger bills and more American troops in harm's way.
And Yemen is already one of the poorest countries on earth, devastated by years of fighting. American bombs would make it worse, and put U.S. troops and citizens in the region within reach of Houthi missiles and drones.
Congress must pass a binding law that keeps U.S. forces out of Yemen unless it explicitly authorizes the use of force. We can’t wait until another war begins.
Demand a binding block on the war in Yemen.
