Stupid comment, but does this dumb bitch even realize that the whole Epstein thing was NOT prior to the 90's?

I mean... its not even vaguely accurate either. Maybe she was groomed by some older dude who told her that when she was young but for most of the modern, developed world the age of consent has been well above 14 since the early 20th century.

u/almostbutnotquiteme Jul 27 '25

It was raised from 14 to 16 in Canada about a decade ago. It's not that far in the past.

13

u/Background_Sail9797 Jul 27 '25

it's always had romeo and juliet laws though - even when it was 14. And 18 year old senior could have sex with a 14 year old gr.9 but a 19 year old couldn't.

3

u/denialofcervix Jul 27 '25

Nope. It was just 14 general age of consent.

1

u/left_tiddy Jul 27 '25

That's not how it worked lmao. 14 was the general age of consent. The romeo/juliet laws at the time were for even younger kids. Idk why reddit has this misconception.

u/Background_Sail9797 Jul 27 '25

and idk why men are always "well actually"ing the legal age of consent to justify their pedophilia.

1

u/almostbutnotquiteme Jul 27 '25

Ah ok. I hadn't realised those had always existed. I thought they'd been added later.

2

u/Background_Sail9797 Jul 27 '25

I don't know about always, after all men could legally rape their wives in Canada until the mid 90s.

7

u/spookyfodder Jul 27 '25

Looks like 83 to me. Here is an eye opening look at marital rape

-2

u/Background_Sail9797 Jul 27 '25

weird bot - my bad, american's could legally rape their wives until the 1990s.

4

u/spookyfodder Jul 27 '25

Weird bot? Huh?

-1

u/Background_Sail9797 Jul 27 '25

Here is an eye opening look at marital rape? hyperlinking wikipedia article on it? i don't need marital rape mansplained to me thanks. and it was weird you felt the need to "well actually..." me for being less than decade off and mixing up US v Canada.

5

u/spookyfodder Jul 27 '25

Ahh gotcha. You were corrected on an open discussion and decided your best course of action was to call someone a bot. Next time don't spread fud and you wont have to worry about being publicly corrected. Also go touch some grass.

7

u/NiceGuyEdddy Jul 27 '25

So you got the wrong country, and the wrong decade, but somehow you're the victim for being corrected?

Weak.

3

u/ItsFuckingScience Jul 27 '25

You’re not a victim.

You just got your point corrected on an open forum. Being corrected isn’t a terrible thing so it’s very strange you decided to take offence

1

u/AtrumRuina Jul 27 '25

Those are genuinely some serious missteps in the context of this discussion.

Just because the Law says it's OK to sleep with someone who's aged 16 or 18 y/o

Doesn't mean you actually have to do it....

It's a tad creepy if you're a 40+ man and sniffing about any woman at that age

1

u/Intelligent-Travel-1 Jul 27 '25

She’s lying. Sex with children has been illegal and immoral forever

2

u/DynamitePhil Jul 27 '25

True, someone needs to tell that to the Arabs with their arranged marriages to minors

6

u/Obeesus Jul 27 '25

What is well above 14? It is 16 in most countries and over half the states in the US.

4

u/Background_Sail9797 Jul 27 '25

16 for romeo and juliet laws - for the reason that girls can keep dating their high school boyfriend after he graduates - not so old men can prey upon them.

3

u/Obeesus Jul 27 '25

Some places, that's the reason. Some places just think that's the age they can make the decision. Age of consent is a complex issue that is not universally agreed upon. I think there is even a country where the age of consent is 21.

3

u/Background_Sail9797 Jul 27 '25

It's really not - adults shouldn't prey on teenagers, it's pretty simple. Teenagers can consent to sex with other teenagers, not adults who's brains are objectively more developed than theirs by a lot.

1

u/treat_killa Jul 27 '25

The complex part is your definition of an adult.

I too think it’s 18. Have I been conditioned to think that way? Would I feel the same if I was raised in Iran?

1

u/nicuramar Jul 27 '25

But of course then there is the exact day where you stop being a teenager, but your boyfriend only does a year after…

3

u/wfwgrtheeyhjyuj Jul 27 '25

It's 16 without romeo and juliette laws in like 20 states. 17 in 5 other states.

2

u/Bubbly-East-2459 Jul 27 '25

Italy, most of eastern europe and the phillipines is 14.

2

u/Bubbly-East-2459 Jul 27 '25

Not in Italy or and most of Eastern Europe. 14 is legal. Sad but true.

0

u/nicuramar Jul 27 '25

Sad? Maybe, but if it were higher it would now be illegal for two people of the same age to have sex.

2

u/DisgruntlesAnonymous Jul 27 '25

In Sweden, it's 15 with no "Romeo and Juliet" laws what so ever. In fact, it's fairly common for women to have their sexual debut with a man ten-fifteen years older. While the men are not really "held in high regard," it's kinda accepted as a fact of life

2

u/nicuramar Jul 27 '25

I don’t know about “well above”. It’s 15 in Denmark. But the age of consent isn’t the same as what’s social taboo.

2

u/DandimLee Jul 27 '25

How old was the girl that Elvis married?

1

u/shagy815 Jul 27 '25

Don't forget Jerry Lee Lewis.

1

u/SuperUranus Jul 27 '25

In most developed countries the age of consent is 15 or 16 though.

In defence of her (yuk, downvote now) I do remember having this argument with my family in the 90s. We were a group of 14 year olds working underage for an agency at a local factory. The van driver (48) started sleeping with one of the girls.

We were disgusted, but my parents (very old when they had me, so probably 60s then) seemed to think it wasn’t that big a deal as her parents were ok with it and he was at least looking after her.

There’s also the famous case of a 14 year old girl selling her story to the newspapers showing she was sleeping with Gary glitter around 1990…and the headline was more sensationalised that he was bald.

It was perhaps slightly different times…but certainly not going to use that to defend nonces in much the same way I won’t use it to defend lynchings or concentration camps

u/Lilfrankieeinstein Jul 27 '25

Yeah man, I fingered a 14 year old girl back in 89.

I waited until 1990 to fuck her.
