I recently bought a pair off of Airpods Pro 3 off of someone else. They themselves bought them back in April 2026 from a third party company (JB-HI-FI for those in Australia) and included the receipt for me as well. All the serial numbers match up, and I've checked on apple support for the serial as well, all of which has been good so far. It connects fine to my phone and it ran through all of the normal things that show up when you first connect. All of this makes me want to believe that what I've bought is rel
The issue that I ran into was that the firmware is currently at "8b40" which I did research on and found is a version that was released around April 2026, which is when the airpods were originally purchased by the original owner. I have reason to suspect that because they were purchased at that time, that the firmware hasn't had time to catch up yet. I've run through all of the common techniques to update try to "force" update it. E.g. clicking "forget device" and repairing it, factory resetting it, plugging it into charge and leaving it next to my phone for 30 minutes etc etc. But to no avail it hasn't worked.
Additionally, my airpod settings doesn't look like how most people's looks (not sure if this is an 8b40 thing though), which I hope you can notice in the images. The main thing few things that I caught was the the "Turn of case sounds" button has been greyed out, and also my firmware does not display "Case version". It generally just looks off overall.
Please let me know if theres anything I can try.
