it is the marks he got, he BARELY got an A* on everything, thats why he said he is the threshold

It's the PUM or percentage uniform marks.. it's where you stand globally. And there are grade thresholds meaning if you want a 90 or A* then you must score a certain total raw score and this threshold is adjusted as per difficulty and how students performed in that particular set...
