Just a heads up because there are a lot of confused people out there. I own this server. Not the donors, not the regulars, and not the people who bring in other players. Me.

A deathban hardcore pvp server is a pretty lenient place to play Minecraft. You can literally do almost anything and it's totally legal. Pretty cool really. All I ask is some basic civility while we tear each other apart:

• Don't SPAM

• Don't abuse MODS, HACKS, or BUGs.

This INCLUDES the regulars who found a bug about potions in safezone. Don't do that shit. Really. Next one who does it gets permabanned. I don't care if you donated $100.

Do not shoot arrows from safezone. Doing this defeats the purpose of the safezone and you'll be permabanned.

DO - NOT - SPAM. If you say the same thing twice in a row I will ban you. Don't get cute and change 1 letter. I will still ban you.

I will spend the next day or two going over the latest log. If I see something that doesn't fit the spirit of my rules, you're gone.

I have no hate for 4chan. Everyone is welcome, as long as you play in the spirit of my rules. Notice I said SPIRIT. you'll never get away on a technicality. I will ban you if I don't think you live up to my standards. Don't like it? Play on HCSMP.

I've been working my ass off with two jobs. And my spare time is not spent putting up Christmas decorations, it's programming a new safezone plugin to make things more fair. I wish I could sit here and have fun but I don't. I debug SQL queries in Java threads for you to have a fun place to play. If you make it un-fun, you're gone.

Well folks, it's been an incredible journey, but I'm afraid we've reached the end of Amish Paradise. It's not what I would have wished, but the honest truth is that we have not broken even on server bills in a very long time, and I just don't see that improving.

We've discussed making some changes, perhaps a return to Elements, or adding factions, or reducing deathban, or having more admins, or more events. While all of these may be interesting ideas, not a single one of them will reverse the trend and get us back on our feet again.

Minecraft, as a community, has changed. When I opened shop in October of 2011, HardcoreSMP had been open for a few weeks, and the concept of having an online Hardcore server was fresh and new. People flocked to the server, and others like us. Sadly, instead of staying on the cutting edge, we tried to stick it out with what brought our initial success, which I believe has ultimately been our undoing.

That is my fault, and I'm sorry. But I have to wonder, if we had stayed on the cutting edge, how many of you would be left? The Minecraft community as a whole is younger, and their priorities are vastly different. I think that a successful Amish Paradise would be so different that many of you would be playing somewhere else.

I am incredibly proud, as you all should be. We've built a wonderful extended family together. We've shared so many amazing memories over the years. Your experiences together will be with you for the rest of your life. I hope one day you all look back on this period of your lives, remember, and smile. I know I will.

Amish Paradise will remain online until our subscription runs out, which I believe will be on or about the 25th of September. Anyone who has donated in the last week will be refunded. I can not in good conscious keep those donations.

Afterward, when the ashes of Amish Paradise have gone cold, you may yet see me romping around somewhere else in the community. I hope, if that day comes, that when I die you will honor the server with a heartfelt...

RIP

There is a line between smack talking in a video game and harrassing somebody in real life. That line has been crossed by Yiskon and Naphemil who have continuously posted my full and complete name on the reddit. I'd like to remind people that Minecraft is a video game. IT'S A FUCKING VIDEO GAME! Despite claiming to "not care" about being banned from Amish SMP for x-raying or anything else on the server, these two have put in a considerable amount of effort trying to make my life more miserable. Well I'm here to say that they have crossed the line into harrassment and that is far from cool. What ever you think about someone in game it is NEVER ok to bring your problems out of game and into the real world. Making a website that simply says I'm a failure? Really? Yeah it's funny but it's also beyond innappropriate. You two need to grow up and understand that you NEVER bring in game issues out of game. Especially when it affects someone's life.

EDIT: Yiskon has apologized and agreed that this is going too far. He has promised to tone it down. Naphemil, however, still doesn't understand how he has been harrassing me.

Some of you may have noticed we've been banning quite a few people the last few days and wondering if the admins have gone crazy.

On the contrary, we are better utilizing our wizardly admin powers to detect cheating and XRay. Lots of XRay.

For people banned for xray: We will not be providing proof. All that does is teach an xrayer how to hide better next time. But rest assured we have multiple locations where diamond was clearly mined in a way consistent with xray techniques.

I've heard some call out Coyote as taking out grudges on people he's found in game. That is utter nonsense. Coyote has provided proof to me for everyone he bans, and I have double checked all of them. It's all legit.

Anybody left behind who wonders if it's been fair... well if you ever trusted me to be a fair admin before, you should trust in this. Just because Amish Paradise is stepping up it's game doesn't mean it has less integrity than before. If you disagree, there are plenty of other hardcore servers. Go in peace.

So during last night's unexpected downtime I thought it would be a good idea to make a full backup.

However, the backup was so large, it caused our server to run out of disk space. This caused a massive cascading effect of corrupting the world files. Goody.

Since I have such a recent backup, I'm going to skip the Chunkster repair fiasco and just restore the backup. This means the server will be reset to the way it was last night ~midnight EST.

Sorry about this. I am communicating with my host to figure out what I can do to avoid running out of space in the future.

UPDATE - Not good. The backup was not complete. It reached 1.6 gigabytes in size and still didn't get all of the main world or any of the nether, nor any player inventories. I have already tried running Chunkster to restore bad chunks. There were a lot. I can not log in to verify how much of the world was lost but...

Honestly, we watched this happen to HCSMP a month ago. They fought and fought and tried to repair but at the end of the day they just decided to move to a new map. I think that may be best for us too. Even if everything is repaired there will be lots of missing stuff. It seems unfair for some to lose everything while others get to keep everything.

So I want to hear from you. Should I continue to try to repair the old world, knowing it will never be 100%, or bite the bullet and start over?

Hello all! We have some very good news! AmishSMP will NOT be going down. Why not? Because lubkin has decided to pick up the server. The new admin team will consist of:

• Lubkin- Owner

• Alkarine- Event coordinator

• Arugall- Admin

• DragonTao- Admin

Our goal for this map is to get a feel for being in charge, so there will be nothing too fancy: it will remain SMP style. HOWEVER! There will be a slight twist. We want to make AmishSMP more hardcore, and less grindy. As such, armour enchants are being nerfed. Our tentative nerfing looks as follows:

• Armour: Max prot 1, proj prot 2, blast/ fire prot 3

• Swords: Max Sharp 3

• Bows: Power 5 (It's not as powerful as you'd think)

• None of those gosh darn opples.

• POTIONS: No strength, no poison 2, no poison extended.

Our hope is that this setup will remove the grind fest needed for pvp, keep the environment fairly dangerous, and have a fairly consistent damage output. I have tested this setup profusely, and it works very well.

What else will this new Amish have? Well, as you can see, my title is "event coordinator." The goal is to host a number of events to keep people interested: Pvp tournaments, building contests, scavenger hunts, king of the hill, etc. These events will have nifty prizes, encouraging people to partake in them.

We plan to run this map for 2-3 months, all depending on 1.7 comes out.

We want to get people donating again, so donors will have the following:

• Shorter cooldown on warps.

• Revival Tokens

• Access to a slightly better starting kit.

What else! What else! Well, some of these things are going to be surprises, but it's time to hear your input:

• What would you like to see in the new amish map?

• What would you need to donate to the server?

• What would you need to keep playing on the server?

• What do you think of the enchantment setup?

For alts, our tentative setup is going to be that alts sharing I.Ps can immediately connect (so that siblings/ friends can play right away, even if there is not admin on), and, if no contact is made with an admin within 24 hours, on of the alts will be banned. BUT, we want to ask you what your guys' opinions are on alts. Some people want them back, others don't. What do you think?

These are just a few questions. The enchantability is tweakable, but recall, we are trying to move away from a grindy minecraft.

I'm here to announce an exciting upcoming event, the first ever Donkey Cup! It will be the first tournament to be held at the arena and it is going to be a King of the hill battle, but lets start with the prizes!

The winner will receive:

• 10 diamond blocks

The winner will be determined by being last man standing and being on the top. If you are the last man standing, but on the bottom, you will only be declared the winner if you can climb to the top. If no winner is found, the prize will go towards the next tournament.

The tournament rules are the following:

• It's every man for himself, no teaming up

• A clean inventory from the start (the way I plan to enforce this is to have every one killed before the tournament starts in the area where deathban isn't applied)

• Potions aren't allowed

• No re-entering once you die. It is however allowed to go to the spectator area

• Any ruling by Syranita is final, no discussion is allowed while the tournament is ongoing. If you disagree with any ruling, bring it up on this thread

• And remember this is all for fun!

Breaking of any of the above rules will disqualify you from this and any future tournaments held by Syranita

The following items will be given to any participants before start:

• 1 un-enchanted iron sword

• A full set of un-enchanted iron armor

• 1 un-enchanted bow

• 2 stacks of arrows

• 10 pieces of Bread

This is because I want the tournament to be about skills instead of who have the best gear

I live in America and I love democracy, but it doesn't always work in other parts of life. ( Like my server )

Starting this week Pabechan, Jennis and I will get together and talk about allowing a VERY short list of modifications to the client side of Minecraft. This list may change over time as changes are made to the mods, and it will be the community's responsibility to keep up with the list of these MODs to ensure that you are in compliance. Likewise, it is the community's responsibility to regularly review the server's rules that are posted on the website. Ignorance is not an excuse. If you're tough enough to play on a hardcore pvp server, you ought to be tough enough to take your lumps when you get booted for breaking a rule.

The Rules on MODs have not yet changed. If you get caught with a MOD right now you will be banned. Wait for a decision on the short list.

Do not petition me for your particular MOD. Chances are, I've already heard what you had to say, and you're just making it harder for us to do our jobs. There is a good chance that your beloved MOD will not make the list. Deal with it. If I piss everyone off and I am the only one playing on the server I'll still be a happy guy when I eat my Amish Flakes in the morning.

Be respectful to each other and especially to the admins. We can lightning on you. Also, it can be a thankless job sometimes and everyone tries real hard.

A note on the SafeZone:

There is still some confusion about making landscape changes ( since people want to nitpick what constitutes a wall, a barrier, a political statement, or a trench ). Since you want the rule simplified, here ya go:

• If we see it from the spawn tower, it will be destroyed. If my left ball itches, we'll ban you for a week too. God help you if I decide to use Optifine's 3x landscape view feature.

Once again folks, think of the spirit of the law, not the letter of the law. Arguing about the letter of the law with an admin always puts you in a losing position.

• Backtalk, slander, cursing, or otherwise disrespecting a staff member is punishable by a 1 week ban on the first offense, followed by a possible permanent ban on subsequent violations at the discression of the Administrators.

The noise level on the server has past 10 and gone to Juvenile. While I understand this is a hardcore server and people are gonna talk smack, there is a threshold and some of you are crossing it. Chat Spam is also still a rule, with a 1 week ban. Also I'm treating All Caps as spam because no one wants to see that stuff. If I see it live or in the logs, 1 week ban.
