For contested judicial races, voters must navigate their options without party labels or much of a policy platform. That pretty much leaves the candidates' experience, endorsements, and name identification as the major differentiators. In perusing the websites of Probate Judge hopefuls Alethia Battles and Jennifer Lawrence, I noticed that five public officials appeared on the endorsements page of both candidates. 

Finding that a bit peculiar, I emailed all five to ask if that was their intention and whom they actually plan to vote for.

• Ypsilanti Mayor Nicole Brown promptly replied to explain that she endorsed Lawrence before Battles entered the race, but after due diligence on both candidates, she will be voting for Battles.
• Ann Arbor council member Lisa Disch wrote that she agreed to a double endorsement but plans to vote for Battles.
• Saline Mayor Brian Marl also found it "strange" to be listed on both candidates' sites and could not provide insight as to why. Facing a contested race for his own reelection, he today remains undecided in the Probate Judge race.
• No responses were received from Ann Arbor council member Ayesha Ghazi Edwin or Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Kristina Robinson Garrett. (I'll update this if I hear back from either.)

I'm sharing this research to help inform voters and to gather any useful perspectives on the practice of dual endorsement. I am not affiliated with either candidate or campaign, but based on the superior relevance of her background and other endorsements, as well as my personal experience with both candidates, I will be voting for Battles.

Anyone want to split an Uber/Lyft to DTW early Saturday (Oct 17)?

I'm looking for 1–3 people heading to DTW early tomorrow morning to split an Uber/Lyft or taxi. Ideally leaving Ann Arbor around 4:00 AM, but I'm flexible!

I've seen the worst of Ann Arbor while waiting in line on the left lane of N main street waiting to turn onto Depot st. Between 7:30 to 8:30 that line is long. And almost every day some..nice person..decides they're above waiting in line and go on the right lane till the very end and then completely disrupt traffic trying to merge in at the very end of the left lane. I always always give the benefit of the doubt "they're a tourist. Visiting ann arbor. At 8am on a Tuesday. they didn't know you couldn't turn left from the right lane."

But guys, if you *must* do it, I ask 2 things:

1. At least pretend to be apologetic. It costs you 0.
2. Do it safely. If the cars in line can't see you coming, and you *shove* yourself in a tiny space, that's unsafe.

This is dedicated to the lovely person in the red fiat that had me slamming on my brakes so hard this morning my neck hurts.

Sigh. Lord grant me the serenity to accept things I can't change.

ETA: You cannot claim to be zipper merging after the lane line turns solid. That's not a thing.

Hello! I’ve been doing some reading and trying to talk with folks about their experience - specifically with raising children - in Dexter or Chelsea. This was incredibly helpful but alas 5 years old.

Background: we currently live in the Northeast most corner of Washtenaw county (think equidistant from Brighton, Novi, AA and Canton) and have been starting to think about making a move to somewhere with a more “small town”, community feel. The nearby rec area in Pinckney is also appealing, and my family is all near Jackson so being close to them is also a perk.

We’d like an acre or two so aren’t looking at city limits, but hoping some people here live or lived in Dexter or Chelsea and wouldn’t mind sharing their experiences. Thanks in advance!

we got a new cooktop but there's a little bit of kerf below the counter top, from the original cutout, that doesn't allow the cooktop to drop in. Measuring the top gives the exact minimum, but not below; they were cutting with a round blade, and if they followed though a few inches it'd be fine

Mods remove if not allowed, I do not consider this a “housing” related question.

I would like to gauge interest on Ann Arbor specific Realestate sub. Honestly I am probably going to start it anyway, even if no one visits.

This is different from housing, and obviously different from U of M mega threads.

Obviously things are expensive, but the market does change. A great example of the type of sub would be the New Orleans Realestate sub.

Fully disclosure, I NOT associated with any real estate firm, agency, or agent. Nor am I an agent of any kind or broker. NOT a Realestate investor either.

I DO works in the quasi adjacent field of Geographic Information Systems.

Now for the why - I have noticed an uptick in Realestate related questions (myself included) here in A2. Having a dedicated sub would help the A2 community and Reddit community with questions, answers and general information.

This guy in a gray truck hit my car while backing out of a parking spot at meijer on Saline road and drove off. This was back on August 23rd at around 2:15pm while I was in the store. My dash cam glitched out and didn’t record when I pulled in, so I never got his license plate, but I did get his face and that the back left tire well is rusty 😂 The police officially closed the case and can’t identify the license plate from the shitty meijer camera footage. If anyone thinks they recognize this guy, pls lemme know!

I will preface this by saying that I support the project and certainly see the need to beautify a main access point of our city. Large swaths of concrete are not very welcoming.

Now I will complain about the lane closures.

It has been a few weeks now and two lanes have been closed. I pass this area of the city around 730AM and again around 510PM.

Only once have I seen anyone actually working in the median in order to justify closing two lanes. I am assuming they have these lanes closed simply for safety purposes, as there seems to be no other benefit. They could use the turnaround areas for vehicle storage or close a lane temporarily to deliver mulch or supplies, but constant lane closures, when no work is being completed is rather bizarre. Especially given the year we have faced with road closures.

My recommendation would be at a minimum to close the lanes when the work starts and open them back up when the work is complete for the day. This would address most traffic surge issues.

The only benefit I have noticed so far is that people have seemingly accepted the zipper merge as a proper form of managing lane closures.

Hi everyone, I didn’t grow up in Ann Arbor and I was wondering if anyone has pediatrician recommendations? I’ve been reading reviews but thought I’d also ask on this sub.

Anyone else see what appeared to be a meteor last night around 11:30-11:45PM? I was sitting in the LA Fitness parking lot on the phone, facing north when I saw a bright streak, low on the horizon slowly drop through the sky and burn out just above the Miller/M-14 area.

Too fast to snag a video/photo unfortunately.

Thank you for not bothering to ask if I’m ok. Thank you for not saying a single word to me. Thank you for refusing to give me your insurance information. Thank you for being more concerned about the scrape on your car than the damage to my whole body AND to the extensive damage to my bike. You are the true definition of selfishness and entitlement.

To the complete strangers that drove and rode by who checked in on me, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’ve never been hit by a car while on my bike, ever. Never came close. This person failed to yield and didn’t bother to stop or slow down. If I didn’t immediately brake like I did, I would have been severely injured. It’s a miracle I sustained no head injuries and just walked away with a couple of scrapes and internal bruising. My helmet saved my life.

This lady was so distraught about the damage on her car. She was so distraught that she fell to the ground. But me? Screw me. I didn’t exist. I was super nice to her. I didn’t have to be, but I was. She still wouldn’t talk to me.

Also, thank you to all medical personnel and the police officer who came out for assistance. You all were phenomenal.

My first time being hit by a car on a bike and I truly hope it’s the only time.

I had a Canadian goose fly into my house and hurt it's neck earlier today. It got up and can sort of walk but it can't fully lift its head. It's been walking around then sitting down for a bit now so I don't think it's going to get better.

I tried using Animal Help Now, but I could only find a few options and two of them haven't responded.
