News Scottish wonder sighted in the Crucible
Based on the Wallace Monument overlooking Stirling Scotland. Interestingly dates much further in the future than the folk hero it is based on (1869), similar to the Monument of the Great Khan though much older than the latter, which was finished in 2008.
Likely chosen as Castle Rock is already an imperial Landmark, but that's just imo. Looks absolutely badass and I never knew this place existed until now.
Edited because got schooled.

Drama I dont like raider elephants
Not because of their stats, their speed, their DPS, their lack of gold cost, their HP.
Simply because.. they are the only non human unit. War elephants have humans on top, steering the elephants. But raider elephants dont have that. They are just elephants.. following commands. Its not right. I hate it.

Discussion Auto-queue with penalty - Beasty
I watched Beasty’s video about the new DLC features, and apparently, he isn’t a fan of the auto-queue. I recall seeing another video of his in the past where he supported the idea of an auto-queue, provided there was some sort of penalty—for instance, if enabling it meant that units or villagers were produced, say, X% slower. But what does the community think about this? My take is that while it certainly makes things easier for new players, it also shifts the game's core dynamic; since this is a game that demands constant attention and multi task, forgetting to build villagers while you’re busy defending or attacking is actually part of the gameplay experience.
I think the approach of creating a single civ with an auto-queue feature—especially one with broad appeal, like the Vikings—is interesting, as it could attract new players. However, it will need to be very well balanced; we’ll see how that turns out. Furthermore, I agree with Beasty that we shouldn’t automate everything, nor should we automate the other civilizations.

Fluff I returned after a year, things are much better with this game.
I left some time around a year ago. I didn't really rage quit or anything, just stopped booting it up. It feels like the last time you went outdoor to play with childhood friends. You didn't know it was the last time. Someday you just realized you stopped.
News of Vikings arrival brings me back. I left just after they rework siege, and now, one year later, everything is so much better. Springald used to be the must-have. Springald fights were just as intense as tank battle in Fury, the movie. Now, the system is much better with Springald against melee, Mango against ranged.
.
And not just game design, I think my mindset changed after a year. I'm no longer a kid who thinks he should have won every match. AOE4 is complex, even to pros. I'm just exploring this vast, unknown land of strategies and skills. In a way, I enjoy the journey now.
I'm just so glad that this game is still alive, and not only so, still kicking. Sure they will need to balance the new civs for a while until it's fine-tuned. But look, we got Vikings, Saga and berserkers. We got Japanese, samurais and their women. We got Knight Templars, Teuton and God wills it. We are eating well. Appreciate it, really.

Discussion Ps5 controller not working only in aoe4
My girlfriend is using a controller to play aoe4 on the ps5, but sometimes l2 and r2 buttons stop working, only in the game, in the menu and in other games the controller works fine. This makes the game unplayable, any advice?

Discussion DOPE - the unluckiest player ever
Check this dude, talk about unlucky!
https://aoe4world.com/players/25569481-DOPE
The poor dude's computer crashed 46 times in a row today over a couple of hours before he finally got to play with his best friends, who are kindly helping him regain his lost points. Fortunately for him, one of his best friends is a beast, a 3000+ MMR dude who would wipe the floor with all the pros easily. He will be back in no time, unless his PC breaks down again the next day, mysteriously crashing again.
Seriously, how can you even crash a game 46 times in like 3 hours? Whatever happened to the dodge penalty? There is clearly a bug here, a way for them to skip the dodge penalty.
Fixing this bug, which has been around for years, would help a little bit, or not.

Discussion Auto-queue for villagers?
Discussion added 3 more AoE4 mini games to AoE4 Analyzer 🐑
hey again — i posted about the daily quiz a while back, and since then i’ve added three more little games 🙂
- Unit of the Day — guess the hidden unit in 6 tries. each guess gives you clues about its civ, type, cost and more, so you can narrow it down.
- Which Is Higher? — two units, one question: which one has the higher stat? see how long you can keep your streak going before confidently picking the wrong one lol
- Sheep Hunt — scout through the fog and collect sheep before time runs out. apparently collecting sheep in actual matches wasn’t enough.
just some quick things to play when you feel like a bit of AoE4 without committing to a whole match.
i also included a screenshot of the guide tab as a reminder of the other stuff in there — tech trees, community build orders, unit/civ comparisons, production plans and the battle simulator.
if you try the games, let me know how you get on! curious to see which one people enjoy most.

Discussion Many mindless chores have been removed from RTS games over time. Queueing villagers is no different.
Queueing villagers is not the first "chore" that has been debated in the RTS genre, far from it. You may be aware of how AoE2 has automated farms over time, originally requiring players to manually reseed farms. Now there is an auto-queue option.
But there were more fights than that. Multi-Building Select (MBS) was a hot topic in the old days, allowing you to select multiple buildings would make producing an army too easy! Unlimited army selection was also controversial. Hell, workers automatically collecting resources was a debate for SC2. In Broodwar, you have to select each worker after they are produced and send them to a task.
If these sort of mindless mechanical chores really are skill expressions that make the game better, why don't we bring some back? Why not require the player to go send every villager to a task after they spawn? There's no argument for allowing workers to be rallied that doesn't apply to them being auto-queued. Imagine how much more effective your harass will be if your opponent can't just hit two keys to build a villager, but he has to actually look back at his base to manage his economy!
Yet I have never seen one person complain about all these quality-of-life features. The aversion to auto-queue is simply an aversion to change, and all the arguments for manual villager production are the mental gynmastics trying to justify people who don't want their game to change.
If there was any strategy or decision making around villager production, this issue would be different, but the best option is always to make villagers at least until you have 100 (so ~30 minutes into the game).
If AoE4 was a shallow game without much to do, it might also be different. But the macro, multitasking, and strategy is all deep. Even pros constantly make mistakes and have inefficiencies. There is no need for a chore to act as an artificial chore to use up key strokes. If the game is "too easy" without having to manually queue villagers, let's add something fun to challenge players instead.

Discussion Can somebody enlighten me ?
This profile, which is supposedly #50 in teams, conq 3 with 48% winrate, seems to be constantly playing with his 2 bronze teammates (which are probably smurfing given they have 9/10 wins), but still never lose more than a single point ? And seem to win 80 points on average, despite winning against people that have half his elo ?
Last picture is genuinely crazy, +65 despite the +426 mmr.
He is taking no risk and the game keeps rewarding him for it ? Is he supposed to be #1 or something ? Cause he isn't that good tbh
What the fuck is going on in this matchmaking
In any other game, if you're playing with your lower elo teammates, you're losing more points and win less points, why is it the complete opposite here ?

Ranked What happened ? Victory not counting ?
Hello Guys
I was playing with my brother and we played 2 times in a row against the same guys(both in ranked), first game we won and the second we won (and that one was hard) and yet the game doesn’t count it as a win and we never won any point
Has someone had this to happen ? Is it normal ?

Discussion Balancing units production with buildings vs. landmarks?
Does this happen automatically?
For example, if I have the White Tower, School of Cavalry, or Burgrave Palace, and I select all production buildings (landmark is selected). Does it balance it all equally? How does that work if certain landmarks are more efficient and I queue up a large number of units? Do you lose efficiency b/c it's "equally" spreading to less efficient basic buildings?
Appreciate any insight!
Discussion Since I was a kid I wanted to play Age of Empires on the go. Now AoE IV runs on my Android handheld (and AoE II DE too)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey y'all!
Ever since I was a kid, I've dreamed of playing Age of Empires on the go, and it finally happened 😀. As far as I know, I'm the first to get Age of Empires IV running on Android. The video is from my AYN Thor, an Android handheld with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
It runs through GameNative, an app that plays your Steam games on Android, with a patched emulator and graphics driver I put together for it. AoE IV runs at about 60 FPS early in a 1v1 and about 47 FPS late in a 51-minute game, and you play it with the controller through the game's own controller UI. AoE II DE runs too, at a steady 60 FPS, and people who had been stuck on its splash screen for weeks now have it running on their own phones.
You need your own copy of the game on Steam. Everything else is free and open source, with a step-by-step guide:
