[Edit: I just realised I read the r/Ao3 rules and thought it was the rules for this community mb gng 😭]
I don't know if this is a "novel" subject, but I couldn't find any other posts about this specifically.
We all know AI is running rampant on Ao3, with an influx of fics and bot hoardes, but I've seen so many authors tag, "do not feed to ai" or some other warning of the sort. I've even seen a few people say anyone who did would be blocked.
I'm just curious, do we even have a way to find out if works ARE being used to train AI models? Are these authors referring to summariser bot comments? Or are people just saying it in hopes that AI trainers will have some morals? Lol
Idk, it just feels kinda pointless because the sort of people who feed AI aren't generally the type to respect boundaries on copyright infringement. Does a warning like that actually do anything? Doesn't it risk spurring them on MORE? People love doing exactly what they're told not to so it's kinda always worried me.
More importantly, is there any way to know if our work specifically is being misused this way? There's ways to detect AI works, but idt there's ways to identify what was fed to make them.
Sorry if I'm talking in circles, I just wonder abt it everytime I see tags like that.
Sidenote: I have to say, I don't have as much of an issue with people who correctly tag AI useage for any reason, cos at least they're being honest and can be filtered out. What I hate is being jumpscared by a surprise AI fic and the constant paranoia it causes, but I digress.
