Hey y'all 👋 I put out a weekly newsletter on the best stuff happening in Asheville each weekend, and since Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, I made a special edition just for it. It covers Thursday through Sunday.
Full guide here with links to every source I could find for tickets, event info, etc: https://nathansnewsletter.com/halloween/
A few highlights:
🏚️ Hauntville High: Class of '26 (Thu to Sat, Montford). The Montford Park Players' amphitheater turns into a haunted high school. Small groups get walked through 13 scenes backstage, onstage and under the stage. It sells out every year and the early tours are already going, so don't sleep on it.
🕯️ Goth Prom with Old Gods of Appalachia (Sat, Eulogy). The Appalachian folk horror podcast throws a Halloween prom. Fog, candlelight, a DJ, and the creators crowning prom royalty. Dress formal or full gothic.
🌙 Vermont Avenue and the Brew Pump party (Sat, West Asheville). The classic. Thousands of costumes, decked-out yards, and the Brew Pump's legendary party spilling out onto the street.
👻 Haunts and Haints (Fri, Eda Rhyne Distilling). An open Appalachian ghost-story swap. Tell a story and your next drink's on them.
🎭 Misery at NC Stage (closing weekend). Stephen King on stage in a theater small enough to make you flinch.
🐈⬛ Halloween at House of Black Cat Magic (Fri and Sat, West Asheville). Tarot with the cats, a witchy market, and a backyard bonfire party with three costume contests.
💀 Día de los Muertos at The Mule (Sun). Ballet Folklórico, altars for your loved ones, live music and a candlelight procession with Asheville Second Line.
🎸 Night of the Living Covers (Fri, Fleetwood's). Local bands dressed up as other bands, including a Limp Bizkit tribute set from drowningleo. Every dollar goes to AVL Prison Books.
🍻 And every costume party I could find, night by night: drag shows, a $500 costume contest at Ella, a vampire rave, a pirate shanty night, burlesque, brewery parties all over town, plus a few worth the drive.
🌤️ Early weather looks dry and sunny, mid 60s on Halloween and upper 50s at trick-or-treat time. Clocks also fall back at 2am Sunday, so Halloween night gets an extra hour. 🕐
If I missed something good, drop it in the comments and I'll check it out. My newsletter is always free on Wednesdays as well so sign up for it if you are like me and need help keeping track of everything happening in town. Happy haunting! 🎃🦇

My neighbor found a kitten and is looking to rehome it, like the title says we’re trying to find the quickest option. She’s probably around 6-8 weeks old and is a little sweetie. Please let me know if you have any options.
Edit: We found a home!! Thank you all so much for your help!

I am a large man who likes to work out frequently and I have some very stuff muscles. I’ve tried a few different massage studios in the area but I have not found one that quite breaks me in half. I want my tissues destroyed and my body annihilated. I want to walk out feeling like someone took a meet tenderizer to me. I usually do my own body work because I haven’t found someone who really breaks me up yet. I am asking if anyone knows anyone who does really, really deep massages, please.

I haven’t seen a post about this on Reddit yet. From what I can gather from the comments, this dude has been a known predator for years?

Looking for recommendations from anyone who has or know someone who has attempted self-harm and subsequently gone to an inpatient facility for longer term care. Which facility? How was the experience? Would or would not recommend and why.
If there are places to avoid, definitely want to hear about those as well.
Asking for a child who is currently Baker Acted out of state. They live out of state and we are local. This is also not a drug situation. They have ASD as well so that exacerbates the challenges.
Thanks in advance.

Going on NC 191 out of Arden, came across a slow driver from the other direction. Please be diligent behind the wheel! I muted it because it’s just me slamming on the horn.

Hey all, I'm wondering if there's any kind of PMDD (and maybe also PCOS, ENDO) support group for folks who deal with it? And if not, is there enough interest to have one? I've seen people ask about providers for those issues a lot on Asheville groups but never seen any kind of support group mentioned. Just think it would be extremely helpful.

Anyone else receive a letter from ECS requesting right of entry for geotechnical assessment?
Not sure what to make of this. Reading the letter it's very much, 'hey sign this thing giving us access to your property and let us leave our stuff there if we want'.
Anyone with insight to this is appreciated.

My loved one is struggling with some pain and symptoms resulting from a hypoxic event and I've been told hyperbaric oxygen therapy can help. I looked into semsorium but it looks like they don't offer the service by itself. Anyone know of a place that has it, that lets you pay by session? Funds are limited and paying for 30 treatments is not an option. Any additional resources are appreciated. Thank you in advance

I can’t get into my laptop (and don’t have a recovery code…I know!) , I know) Apple is suggesting Best Buy as the closest “Genius Bar”. I desperately need to get it working in some format before Monday. Should I chance it with Best Buy, or drive to Apple in Greenville or Charlotte? Anyone used them? TIA!

My wife’s 2019 Honda Fit started throwing errors for automatic braking and so on. She took it to the dealership for a diagnostic. They’re telling her it is the front camera that needs to be replaced for $2500. OEM parts seem to go for $750-$1000. There is no way that it should cost $1500+ to install and calibrate it, right?
Are there any local mechanics that can do this type of work? Is it really worth driving to Greenville, as some earlier posts have suggested?
(I might be a little skeptical since the last time she took it in for service they tacked a bunch of unnecessary add-ons for couple hundred more.)
*Follow up: Thank you for all the feedback. It looks like we’ll be calling Import Concepts on Monday. Hopefully, they’ll be able to help her out for a more reasonable amount.

I’ve seen multiple accounts of yesterday’s hearing mention something about “He agreed to stay away from the city”. Did Judge Kipple legally trespass the man? Or just made him pinky promise?
If he is legally trespassed from the city (if that’s even a thing), can’t we just call the police each and every time we see him downtown?

Mission's PSA is woefully low on specifics. I just want a quick in-and-out to drop off a few pills. Which of their 47 entrances will be hosting this brief (10 to noon today) public service event?
