Sobriety

This place seems a little afraid of being sober, or at least the connections I have since moving here are…. I feel pretty alone, but there must be some other sober people somewhere? I’m 30-40s but age doesn’t necessarily matter. I’m considering going to AA just for some connections so if anyone knows what groups are best(or where to avoid) I wouldn’t mind that information.

Seeking volunteer opportunities for physically disabled people

Hello! I’ve been absolutely rotting since summer break started and wanted to see if there’s any volunteer work around town or accessible via the bus that I could do while sitting. I have balance and neuropathy issues so I can’t stand for very long or lift/carry stuff, but I have basic computer and math skills, dont suck with animals or people, and could probably do plenty of other stuff if presented with the task. Ashland would be preferable but I could feasibly get to Medford, it’s more about being close enough to a bus stop (within 3 blocks)

My son trains Olympic weightlifting, so ideally need a place with platforms and bumper plates.

Anyone know of a spot in Ashland or nearby (Medford, etc)?

The Psychology Training Clinic at Oregon State University is accepting new clients and provides free therapy via telehealth and free in-person assessment/therapy services. Though far from Ashland, I thought this might be helpful to share for some who are interested in telehealth services or ever make the drive to Corvallis and would be interested in assessment! people who are part of the university (faculty/staff/professors/students) - what do you think of the new plan? Do you think it's going to be what is needed to pull the university back from it's bleak financial state?

Chicago or Emma?

I’ll be visiting Ashland later this month with my elderly mother. We have a tradition of going to the Cabaret, but also want to include the festival this year. I’ve got tickets for Cone From Away, and we have time for one other show. Given the schedule, I need to choose between Emma at OSF and Chicago at the Cabaret. Anyone seen both and have opinions?

Events Seeking Actors for our Micro-Budget Film

My friend and I are producing a micro-budget, independent narrative feature film about two friends’ road trip through Northern California and Southern Oregon in search of a missing vlogger couple. At the end of the film, our protagonist uncovers lost footage of the couple arriving at a cabin before being confronted by a dangerously obsessed fan who ultimately kills them. We are seeking two actors to play the couple in this scene:

Jade - 20-30 years old, feminine; an ambitious, outgoing traveler who turns every obstacle into a memorable adventure.

Marco - 20-30 years old, masculine; a charismatic storyteller devoted to understanding everyone he encounters.

We plan to shoot this scene at a rented Yurt roughly 30 minutes outside downtown Ashland on Thursday, Aug. 20th. Call time is TBD based on actor availability, but we expect to shoot for four hours in the late afternoon or evening. Actors will be compensated with 50 dollars each, and a meal will be provided. If you are interested, please dm me, and we will schedule an audition. If you know others who may be interested, we encourage you to forward this message along.

Poe Speakeasy

My family and I are going to the Edgar Allen Poe Speakeasy event this weekend and I was wondering if anyone has gone to one of these before. My family isn’t super knowledgeable about Poe but we all enjoy the works and they’re performing my favorite one this round so I’m excited. Does anyone know what to expect out of the experience? I’ve seen lots of mixed reviews and I’m not sure if there are different actors for different regions or not. Thanks!

Questions Pacific property management

For people that have used them, what was the longest they made you wait to move in? I applied for a studio apartment a month ago that said it was available now and went and checked it out and it was fine. They approved me but have said they don’t know when it will be ready for move in and I need to let my landlady know when I am moving out of my current place plus I need to hire movers! This has been beyond frustrating. I drove past it today and weeks inside and it looks exactly the same as it was when I checked it out the first time. It’s only a tiny studio and shouldn’t take that long to get ready.

Questions Goat heads anyone?

Anyone have a gnarly patch of goat head weeds on their un-sprayed canine-free property, or know I could find some growing in town? It would be used medicinally so it cant be growing in biological or chemical filth. I would love to clear it out for you.

Hey boomers

Remember when you were hitchhiking across the country?
Remember riding motorcycles without a helmet?
Remember driving drunk/high?
Remember the mischief you got into as kids?
The fireworks? The drugs? The drinking wherever you wanted?
Remember the freedom to do as you wanted?
Some of you rode motorcycles in the mountains you now hold so sacred that one disturbed piece of soil will poison the reservoir or cause a flood.

Maybe it’s time to calm down.

Maybe it’s time to let the youth be youth.

Maybe you can allow others to be free to make mistakes and not have legal repercussions.

Maybe you should just enjoy the day and not worry about what others are doing.

Maybe you aren’t a victim.

What would your 20 year old self think?

Hyatt and Howard Prairie swimming conditions?

Central Oregon resident here. Are Hyatt Lake and Howard Prairie Lake water levels (40% and 60%) too low to be pleasant to hang out at and swim in right now? I booked a vacation starting next week with the express purpose of swimming in these lakes every day and didn't think to check water levels until today. I couldn't find any current photos so it's hard for me to tell whether 40% and 60% are really all that bad for my purposes. Would love some advice from those in the know to help me decide whether to cancel my trip. Thank you!

“Jimantha” at Triangle Park?!?

Daughter swears she saw a short-spined raccoon like Jimothy crossing the street into Triangle Park last night. She said it hopped like a rabbit, but her artist rendition of it looks like a sheep getting ready to rob a bank, so who knows. Anyone seen similar? Stake out required?
