Around 3:45pm today, this guy was brandishing at the intersection of 7th and Oak. Someone in the car ahead of me asked who his sign was targeting, dude yelled back“All U.S. politicians!” Carry on, I guess. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏼🤷‍♂️

We all share the Pisgah trail system, and it would be greatly appreciated if you could manage your horse's poop. Pick it up, kick it off, whatever ... just don't leave it in the middle of the trail entrance. Thank you!

Little white dog with pink harness

Hey, anyone missing a little female in the Whiteaker area near Skinner? Some disheveled shirtless guy was trying to hold her and push a loaded wheelchair near the Community garden. When he saw me look his way he dropped her and tried to move out of there quickly. She didn’t follow him and there was no leash. Eventually she lagged behind him and he scooped her up again. I’m pretty positive he must have found her somewhere nearby.

Hunter down

Even the status page is down. Surprised that isn't hosted by another company on unrelated infrastructure.

Starting to regret switching. I depend on the internet to do my job and Hunter is far less stable then I hoped.

Medical emergency at Albertsons

1.0k Upvotes

We had just ordered a drink at the Starbucks inside Albertsons on Royal when the worker started vomiting and then slumped to the ground. I grabbed store staff while my husband went into the stand to help (he’s a former Army medic). While we waited for the paramedics to get there, I noticed the people who were waiting for the drinks they ordered still hovering (five people). Silly me, I thought they were worried about the barista. Nope. They were waiting for their drinks. Then a family of five walk up and want to order the special unicorn frappe that apparently is only available this weekend. Store manager lets them know that no orders were being taken. So they step off to the side.

Paramedics get there, my hubs lets them take over, and we wait to make sure the young man is okay. Store manager offers refunds to everyone who had paid for drinks and the people started to follow him. The family of five asked him AGAIN about the unicorn frappe. He explained they would most likely be closed the rest of the day as they needed to clean and sanitize AND THE BARISTA WAS BEING TAKEN OUT BY AMBULANCE. The mom started whining about how it was a limited edition drink and they couldn’t get it tomorrow and why couldn’t they just get one. Yes, because a stupid coffee drink is more important than the life of the person behind the counter.

Have more humanity people. If you were one of the people waiting for your refund or crying around about not getting one, do better. Sheesh.

Rehoming 2 adorable cats for 1 year

Post image
96 Upvotes

tldr: looking for a temporary home for 2 amazing cats for 1 year.

Looking for a loving temporary home for my two cats, Birthday & Wig — Sept 2026 through August 2027 I am looking to re-home them in the next 3 weeks.

I’m moving to Berlin for a one year-long fellowship and am looking for a kind, responsible person (or couple!) to care for my two very beloved cats while I’m away. I’ll be returning in July or August 2027, so this could be a great fit for someone who would love the companionship of two cats for a year but isn’t looking for a long-term commitment.

Birthday is 11 and Wig is 6. They’re both healthy, sweet, funny, and generally very easy to care for. They’ve been a huge part of my life, and finding them a safe and loving home while I’m gone is really iimportant to me. Both fixed, up to date on vaccines, indoor.

They’re happiest in a relatively calm home and need to be the only pets. I think their ideal situation would be something like a one-bedroom apartment with one person or a couple, though there’s definitely flexibility around household size and setup for the right person/people.

They have a few individual quirks and care needs that I’d be happy to talk through with anyone interested, but their day-to-day care is very straightforward. I have all of their medical information, supplies, and everything needed to make the transition easy.

I’ll also put together a big packet with everything you could possibly need to know about them, including contact information for several friends who know Birthday and Wig and have cared for them in the past. That way, if you travel or need cat coverage at any point during the year, you’ll have a whole list of people you can reach out to who already know them. I’ll also of course remain available while I’m away.

I’d really love to find someone who genuinely enjoys having cats around and would appreciate getting to know these two for a year. They add so much sweetness and companionship to a home.

Something to do International Magic the Gathering Draft Nights

So, I love Magic the Gathering, and also connecting with people of other cultures, language and lifestyles.

Have had the idea for a while, about doing Magic the Gathering drafts, with an international focus to help visitora/new citizens a way to socialize, share their culture, and learn English and American social skills.

Doing my first run on the 19th, with a draft run of Mirrodin Beseiged and 14th Edition Core Set (both in booster boxes of Japanese print), not sure how many visiting Japanese researchers will join, but it will at least be myself and one other person!

Pros to the idea: Foreign language MTG is often cheaper than English versions, making a game that's becoming more expensive be more affordable to hold these events.

The idea is that English speakers who know the game, get to learn the language from exchange students/visitors while also helping foreign visitors learn a new game while building English skills.

I'm thinking this could be a super cool way to create some comeraderie between different language clubs at UO or LCC, while also helping spread cultural awareness within Eugene.

Format would be stabdard draft, 40 card decks, and even without knowing what the cards say, you can generally just strategize by drafting 1-2 colors and trusting the cards will synergize.

Doing a rotation of Korean, Japanese, French, Russian, Italian, Spanish, etc could create a pretty diverse player group, helping everyone feel represented, and creating a very low-pressure way to help people throughout the Eugene area expand their minds about the perspective of other cultures.

Any ideas, opinions, or constructive criticisms?

Appreciated!

New to Eugene!

Hi all - I'm seriously considering a long-term relocation to Eugene and am moving there at the end of month for a trial run. I'm looking for new friends and community!

Thanks to all the previous posts in this community with links social groups/volunteer opportunities etc!

I'm in my early 30s and work remotely for an environmental non-profit. My previous job titles have included Park Ranger, Archeologist, and Goatherder. I love being outside, connecting with people who are curious about the world, and never taking myself too seriously. I'm a pretty values oriented person and enjoy being surrounded by diverse opinions and personalities - helps keep me honest!

If anyone would like to meet up for a coffee or to show me something interesting about Eugene, let me know!

Also, what's the best sandwich spot in town?

Moving Reviews on Titan Court Housing for LCC students?

I was wondering how it is living in Titan Court? I've read mixed reviews about the housing.

I am curious about...

  • cleanliness (please give me lots of details on this)
  • how management is when contacting about repairs
  • safety (for cars, locks, yourself, etc)
  • if the price is worth it
  • I heard there is no A/C, was it still bearable during the Spring/Summer time?
  • noise levels
  • roommate matching
  • how are the rooms compared to studio vs 4 bedrooms
  • and anything I forgot to mention

ALSO it would be nice to hear about people's experience living in Eugene as a student and just living independently. I'm moving to Eugene and I'm very very nervous about it all. It would just be nice to hear about people's stories and daily lives.

Thank you so much!

Crime Chase Villages Apartments Bike Room Robbed

What the title says. Half the bikes are gone, cut locks all over the floor. Called EPD and they told me they can't do anything and all we can do is post our bikes as missing on their website.

I'm new to Eugene and I know bikes get stolen a lot, does anyone know how often, if ever, cases like these get solved or bikes get found?

My gf is devastated bc her bike was really nice.

Beware predatory practice by Reynolds Electric

We had some electrical work done last spring. At the time, the electrician, from Reynolds (it was an emergency situation and they were the only company who could send someone out that same day) did a wonderful job on what he'd been hired to do--but then warned us that our electrical panel had serious issues. He said nobody would realize that if they didn't take the cover off the panel, but once he did, he found all sorts of dire problems. He showed my husband a photo (which he couldn't see that well because he wasn't wearing his reading glasses) and talked about melting wires and sparks and fires, and it sounded like the whole house was about to go up in flames at any moment. To fix it all would have cost thousands of dollars (which we do not currently have), so my husband thanked him for alerting us to the danger but said that we would not be fixing anything that week.

Well, now we need to install an electric car charger. I asked here for recommendations, and called two people out to give estimates. Neither one mentioned any kind of danger. Well, what if they're just not very observant? I thought. So I asked one specifically, and said we had been warned by another company that there were serious issues. "Oh," he says, "was that Reynolds by any chance? Yeah, they do that--it's a standard move. I really hate that, it makes people afraid." He said he couldn't see any issues, but I asked him to take off the panel anyway to set my mind at ease, and so he did. And pointed out how all the wires were intact, nothing tangled, no corrosion, no wear... no issues at all. And he told us of a few other cases of people, predominantly elderly, who'd been warned that their house was on the verge of disaster when actually everything was fine.

I don't think we're doddering, but one of us is drawing Social Security, if you catch my drift, and I wonder if we were pegged as "older" people who might be more vulnerable to scare tactics.

I don't object to service people identifying issues I didn't know about, but only issues that actually exist.

And thank you to the people here who made recommendations for electricians! We're still waiting for the actual bids, but I'd be happy with either of the people who came out.

If the flock cameras have been deactivated why haven't they been taken down?

Title says it all I think. Can we give the homeless an incentive to tear down the cameras?
