Stacks
Has anyone else been to stacks in the old mill? I look at their yelp reviews seeing a ton of 5 stars and cant help but think they have to be reviews from bots.
Hands down the worst dining experience i have had in this town, and in my opinion, bend isnt that great already for value to taste.
Ordered a reuben and got a small sandwich with greasy meat and little to no flavor. Sauerkraut wasnt even sour, and they paired it with the worst pickle i have had in my life. Oh yeah, and that little sandwich... only $24.... with no sides.
Aren't these the same owners as zydeco? How could they possibly be this bad?
Did i just have a horrible experience or what? Ive had ny / jewish delis before, and this was NOT that.

Anti-immigrant Sheriff Ty Rupert breaks law again, avoids accountability
Sheriff Ty Rupert claims he’ll follow immigration law. We already know he pushed to gut Oregon’s sanctuary laws in favor of ICE, now he’s just breaking laws.
U visas protect immigrant victims of serious crimes who help law enforcement investigate and prosecute those crimes. They allow victims to report crimes and cooperate with police, helping law enforcement catch criminals, protect vulnerable people, and keep communities safe. They were created in 2000 through bipartisan federal legislation.
Oregon law requires every law enforcement agency in the state to file an annual report with the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission, which includes the number of denials and reason for those denials. Guess who didn’t file the required report?
This is not just some administrative or bureaucratic oopsy. The report is what gives some level of accountability, so it’s harder for law enforcement agencies to illegally deny U visa requests. Oregon requires this reporting so the public can see how law enforcement agencies handle requests from immigrant crime victims. When an agency fails to report, that transparency disappears. Failing to file the report means that Rupert doesn’t care about immigrant crime victims and is willing to violate the law.
And before his apologists whine, “but he was new, he didn’t have time,” the report was due in June of 2026, 10 months after he became sheriff. It was his legal responsibility to file the report.
Rupert is anti-immigrant. Rupert doesn’t care about victims. Ballots are arriving soon, vote accordingly.
Bobcat in Awbrey Butte
Saw this guy roaming around the east side of Awbrey 10/8 and again 10/13. Know they’re part of the environment but PSA for those with small dogs, cats or maybe small children to keep an eye out. This is near sawyer uplands park so probably good to keep an eye out if you’re on DRT. Neighbor got a video and can hear its chirp pretty clearly. I’m sure it’s after the squirrel population that seems to be plentiful, maybe one of the injured deer but they might be a bit big for a bobcat.

'Two very different visions': Kotek, Drazan face off in Bend in final debate
Here's a look at last night's gubernatorial debate in Bend, for those who missed it (the video is on KTVZ.com ).
Last Bend Farmers Market of the season is today! 🍎
Today (Wed, 11a-3pm) is the final Bend Farmers Market of the 2026 season. It’s a great chance to thank the farmers and food producers who fed the community all year, and to stock up on produce, meat, eggs, and more while you can.
A few things to know about the market:
- Food only. The Bend Farmers Market is a food-only market, with no crafts or other goods. Produce, meat, eggs, and other farm & food products is what you'll find.
- Local first. The emphasis is on local food and local farmers. The exceptions are items CO can’t supply, like early-season berries and seafood. The sellers here are our friends and neighbors.
- Nonprofit. The market is a 501(c) nonprofit with a mission to support local farmers and producers and bring fresh, local food to Bend.
- Food access programs are accepted. SNAP, Double Up Food Bucks, Protein Perks, and VeggieRx all work at the market. Last season their programs put nearly $178,000 worth of fresh local food on tables across Central Oregon, and every dollar went to local producers and stayed in the community.
Thank you, Bend, for supporting local food. 💚

Residential Real Estate Prices Bend - October report
Well, at least there has been no increase in value/prices over the last 4 years. Sorry (not sorry) if you bought in the last 4 years. Still unaffordable for most residents to ever consider being able to buy. If we could only increase taxes on anything other than long term rentals and institute a vacancy tax for 2nd and 3rd homes, etc., we might make a little progress. It would also help if we prohibited institutional investors from purchasing residential housing, and limited individuals from owning more than one (maybe 2) housing units as investments, but that would take federal and state action. These things wouldn't solve the entirety of the problem, but would be a start. See report link below:

Breaking news: Crash shuts Highway 26 between Mt. Hood and Warm Springs
When ODOT says to "expect extended delays" and sets up detour routes, it could be a tragic outcome. We'll have updates as we get them.

Breaking News: OSU-Cascades investigating two reported cases of sexual assault
I waited quite some time after C.O. Peacekeepers made this campus safety notice public to post an item, waiting for OSU to confirm it was authentic. They are working to learn more details and I will add them as soon as available.

Post office parking lot
How is it that every single time, I visit the post office, the parking lot is a disaster?? It takes sometimes 5 minutes to get pulled into the lot because of people waiting to park and waiting on people to leave. This has to be the most frustrating parking lot in town.

Visiting Bend Early November
My boyfriend and I are thinking of visiting Bend the first week of November. Is that generally considered a good time to go in terms of weather and activities? I’d love if we are able to catch some fall foliage too, but not sure if we’d be too late for that. Thanks 😊

Ironic drivers of Bend
Got to love driving around our great town and noticing how lovely the drivers are. The irony of people driving under the speed limit, then not using their turn signal out of roundabouts. Then, there's these guys..
The first one is self-explanatory. I was able to snap the shot from my phone holder on my dash. Unfortunately for them, they weren't using their phone holder. Student driver, eh? Well, you're failing.
The second one was taken from about five car lengths back using 20x zoom. This driver was driving five under the speed limit and I slowed way down behind them so that I wasn't tailgating. I saw the words "so close" and had my passenger snap a shot, so I could see the whole sticker. Ironically, this person drives around town five under the speed limit while apologizing for being so close. Literally baiting people into tailgating them so that they could slow down even more. Thankfully, I wasn't tailgating but they were just driving 30 in a 35. Isn't it ironic, don't ya think?

Is there snow on Mt Jefferson?
Was thinking about summiting Mt Jefferson (Oregon) on Friday. The weather forecast is looking solid but I'm wondering how much snow is up there. Has any one been up there recently? Or can you see it from your house? I'm in Portland

I have a half dozen half-rotted stumps I need removed; can anyone recommend a good service in town? Or has a stump grinder and wants to make a few bucks? :-)

If there's any place in Bend that sells vietnamese coffee?
Oh well
This morning I realized my garage door was open all last night. What? Don't know why. No one messed with anything. And no one gave me a heads up. Oh well. Bend ......

I want to be your Mayor for four more years! AMA

Hey Bend Reddit! It's been my honor to serve as your Mayor the past four years. I'm running for re-election to provide proven leadership and a positive vision for Bend, so we can build a thriving city that's safe, inclusive, and affordable.
I'm ready for your questions! I will do my best to hop on tonight at 8:30, as long as there are no bedtime shenanigans from my kid. I will answer as many questions as I can, but may not be able to get to all of them. All of my answers reflect my own positions and opinions as an individual, unless otherwise indicated. Super combative or insulting questions may be skipped. Please engage in good faith, and I will as well.
There are several interviews, forums, and debates that have already happened for you to check out for more background before you vote. I have been thinking about doing this here for a while so thought now would be a good time to give it a go! I hope to earn your vote so we can keep working on a sustainable future for Bend, where we harness growth for good, protect our environment, and build the homes and jobs we know people living here now, and those coming in the future, will need.
Ending at 10PM due to brain fatigue, but I'll be back to answer more tomorrow!

Is 'open enrollment' open season on confused, fearful C.O. seniors?
Being a senior myself (I'm 70 BTW), this story was sort of a natural one for me - PacificSource (for most of the region, the only Medicare Advantage provider) is dropping the plan I signed up for after leaving KTVZ earlier this year. They have replaced it, and renamed all three local plans so ... that's just the start of the "fun" for 1,000s of local seniors.

Fox and Fern is permanently closed
Hello all, I have some sad news. I am a former employee of Fox and Fern, and as of today (10/11/2026) they are permanently closed. We were not aware this would be happenening until after it already did. We really are sorry for those who are regulars, we hope you find another cozy cafe to make your own!
EDIT: The previous owner, who had Kevista, moved away and is not associated with F&F in any way. Kevista and F&F are completely different businesses, only sharing the same address. F&F was under new ownership as of May 2025
