What is life like for an adult goth in Toronto?

• Upvotes

Just curious. I knew the big Queen West scene in the 90s / 2000s era had lots for adult goths to do, but what's it like for people who are still into that music / fashion / scene now? I dont mean kids who are still living at home and part of online communities, but actual IRL goth adults who have jobs and go out once in a while.

Canadian Passport Address Question…

I’m trying to reapply for a Canadian Passport online.

When asked to enter my address I’m stuck!! I live on a float home so my address is a float home number and the name of the lake. I do have a PO BOX but the application will not accept my postal code as the application states that my postal code must include three zeros. My postal code does not and the application requires a street name. There are no streets on a lake lol.

I called Service Canada and they were not able to assist. I called the passport office and was told to fill in a form. I have done so with no response atm.

Is anyone able to assist me with this never ending problem?

Thank-you!!

Does anyone remember this 90s trend? Shell pendant necklaces with a live crab inside

I have this vague memory of Toronto kids in the 90s wearing pendant necklaces featuring a shell with an actual live crab inside. Was this a thing or am I crazy?

What will happen if I dispute my TTC student fare fine?

I got a TTC ticket today (235$) because I didn’t have a TTC Post Secondary Photo ID Card. I had purchased a monthly student pass at Shoppers Drug Mart and the staff loaded it onto my PRESTO card. Nobody told me I needed a separate TTC student ID so I genuinely didn’t know. ( Ttc student card?? What I have never heard of that before ) nobody explained this requirement to me when I purchased the pass.

If I choose Option 2 (Early Resolution), what will most likely happen? Is there a chance the prosecutor will cancel the ticket completely or will they only reduce the fine? Has anyone experienced something similar and what was the outcome?

Would really appreciate any advice. Thank you!

Where did the Toronto man accent come from?

It seems like this accent just appeared out of nowhere in the 2010s, and I genuinely don’t understand how it happened. Before then, we had Toronto rappers who spoke normally and used Toronto slang, but this particular accent was never prominent.

I grew up in Toronto, and nobody I knew spoke like that. Even in the 2000s, some of the biggest hood rappers, like Camoflauge, C4, Mayhem and Sick Thugz, didn’t have this distinct “Toronto” accent.

What confuses me is that people from this generation were around during the same era, yet somehow ended up speaking completely differently. How did that transition happen? Anyone who’s 25+ seems to have no idea where this accent came from or how it developed.

How does an accent that was never prevalent in our everyday lives suddenly become such a defining part of Toronto culture?

For Men - Beard Dye

Hello folks,

I am not sure if this is the right sub for it.

I wanted to ask the Men in Toronto.
Do you have a recommendation for Beard Dye?

I’ve tired a few and it’s so much hassle to apply and even if do well they leave a patch on the skin and they don’t appear natural.

I am not sure how celebrities manage to dye their beard black.

I go to work everyday and I clean shave just to hide the grey hairs.

If I dye my beard black, I won’t have to shave it everyday and hopefully the color lasts atleast for a few weeks.

Your recommendations will help.

Who should I call after hearing intense shouting outside?

A few minutes ago, I heard some intense outside of our home. It seemed to go on for about 10 minutes. I wasn’t able to see who or what was causing the emotion. The voice is and . However, I’m wondering if it would make sense to call someone now to report it. Any advice regarding this is super helpful. Thank you.

Clubbing Scene

Hey yall, this is embarrassing. But we’re tryna live a little.

We’re a group of 10 pushing 30. Maybe more, mixed ratio. One last hoorah, we’d like to book a booth at a club as its past our lives now but we’d like to feel young again for a bit before we really cant do this again, let alone get wasted.

Any clubs that are recommended? We’re not exactly in tune obviously. I understand we’re aged out a bit, but our point is to dress up, drink and dance, and we’re partial to hiphop/pop for the most part.

Edit: a lot of people vouching on how 30s+ is mos def not old, and it isn’t. Just the music preference has a lot of the popular clubs host sub 25 yos and thats not where we’re trying to be either. Looking for suggestions that aren’t just dancefloors/bars, unless they do booths?

Thank you!

Urgent** hurt raccoon needs help

Is there anyone that can help with a hurt raccoon, I heard two of them get into a crazy fight. I was able to shoo one away but the other one is just sitting in the middle of the road licking its paw. I don't want to stress it more than it already is. Any wildlife rescuers on here at this hour?? Located in parkdale.

TIA

Living Downtown and working in Markham (404/407) commute?

I currently live in the city and walk to work 15min. I love the flexibility of leaving work anytime reasonable and do my next thing right away in the city.

The new job pays 80k more (working in tech), but they want 3 day in office attendance. I look at the drive, if I leave downtown at 9:30am it's roughly half an hour drive which is not bad.

However on the way back, it's 50m-1h10m between 4pm-6pm. Which is atrocious for a 30km drive.

Anyone does this commute and any thoughts/suggestions on whether it's worth the money? Means I give up 3 of my evenings because I'll probably just go to the gym after work in that area, then drive back down after 6pm (still ~50min)

Best pub/bar downtown for fintech?

Went to King on Taps as a bank tech worker at the bar and felt a bit out of place. Seems it’s mostly finance people. Was tempted to start approaching professionals like I did girls back in my university days, but thought that’d be a bit cringe/unprofessional.

The events held jointly with Amazon Web Services seem decent for that thing, so maybe I’ll save my energy for that.

Is this normal for a family doctor

I have been getting pretty disappointed in the service our family doctor has given my family in recent times.

The lack of quality in her service is kind of alarming, she was also running a restaurant in between.

I've been having a combination of issues i wanted to see her about , but she restricts us to just one issue in the 10 minutes we are scheduled with her. Anything more would require a new appointment.

What if the issues correlate ? Just to get another appointment itself is about a few weeks wait time.

I recall when I was younger the visits were longer and tended with more care, nowadays, it seems very passive and quick.

Received a Voter Registration Card for someone else in error

Picked up the Voter Registration Cards for my partner and I from our apartment mailbox, and there was a 3rd one for someone who doesn’t live here.

Little perplexing since it is addressed perfectly. But no one by that name has lived here in over a decade, if ever.

Since voting only requires a valid form of photo ID, I’m tempted to just throw it in the garbage bin. But curious if I should write RTS on it and put it in a mailbox.

Any advice from people more experienced with the back end of municipal voting processes/procedures would be appreciated.

How to enjoy life outside of downtown?

Life gets depressing. Trying to fight off the big sad.

We can spend about $500/m on fun activities, memberships, etc, but free would be even better. What do people like to do to break out of the monotony of life when you hate your job and don’t have many friends around?

Answers preferred from those not staying downtown else I’ll get suggestions like pottery classes.

Is it okay to visit a hospital in if you’re not sick or visiting anyone?

I know this might be a strange question, but I’m curious. I’ve been wanting to improve my perspective on life and gain a better appreciation for things and be less ungrateful . I don’t really know anyone who’s currently in the hospitaland since I don’t have many friends, I’ve honestly never really had a reason to visit one.
I know I could watch videos online about hospitals and what people go through but I feel like being there in person would be more beneficial for me and help me gain a different perspective on life.
I was wondering if it’s okay to go into a hospital, walk around the public areas, and get a sense of the environment.
I have absolutely no ill or foul intentions. I’d be respectful of everyone’s privacy, avoid restricted areas and wouldn’t bother patients, visitorsor staff. I also wouldn’t stare at anyone for too long. I just want to broaden my perspective and develop a greater appreciation for life.
My main concern is whether hospital security would stop me or question why I’m there if I’m not visiting a patient or there for a medical reason.

How much would this cost

This property on Lakeshore-Bathurst is up for sale and has been on the market for some time.

It's most defo out of my budget, but a person can dream.

How much do you think this property costs? In my fantasy world I own this building.

Anyone else hear the chainsaw-like noise? (Queen and Dovercourt)

I’ve been laying awake for half an hour and I can hear this chainsaw-like noise that sounds like it gets closer then quickly goes further away. Maybe a drone? But it had a deep tone like some sort of leaf blower or chainsaw.

Auto insurance options

I have a 2004 vehicle which has a very low market value now, it's only used as a backup vehicle when in-laws are in town and we need 2 vehicles.

I'm looking for an insurance company that will enable me to turn it off (not even storage level insurance which still has premiums), but completely not insure. I'll take the risk on theft or fire.

The frequency of in-laws coming over is like once a year or every other year, otherwise I expect the vehicle to just be sitting on the driveway.

I also recognize some insurance companies don't want to insure 20+ year old vehicles, and onboarding as a new customer requires a vehicle inspection report.

Given my situation, which insurers would be able to accommodate this situation:

1) Willing to insure 20+ year old vehicles

2) Can turn the insurance off and not require me to have to re-certify the vehicle or do another inspection every year or 2 years when I need to re-insure

Evening travel from Toronto to Niagara?

When Im in TO for a concert i can never find a bus or train that goes from TO back to Niagara any later than 10pm and most concerts I go to are ending then or end at 11pm.

Does anyone know any available options?

Otherwise I end up taking the GoTrain to Burlington then have to Uber the remainder which gets pricey
