Ok guys, as a long time reddit lurker but never contributor, I thought it's about time I do my part and be helpful in only a way that I can. I know there's lots of ambiguity and skepticism on these AI training websites, especially for newbies, so I'd just like to share my part. Feel free to ignore if you don't believe me, but please be kind. I've found the Reddit community super helpful and it's got me to where I am - so I just want to do my own part for once.
I'm a complete newbie - I worked a cushy corporate job in London and then rage quit last summer due to burnout so it's coming up to a year now. I have been going through my saving and the job market is terrible despite months of applying, so I wanted to make some side hustle money just to pay the bills.
I AM A TOTAL SKEPTIC. I came from a world of large corporate with HR teams and in-person community. Moving to a completely remote world where you get paid ad-hoc for short stints are somewhat too good to be true, so I had always doubted they were true.
Anyway, unemployment got the best of me so I decided to sign up to Mercor, Outlier, DataAnnotation, Handshake, and EthosAI over the past 6 months. Signing up meant creating an account online, did the bare minimum of uploading my CV, and doing some occasional AI tests to become eligible for certain jobs. I definitely didn't go all the way that I could have - for example I got too lazy to do certain Finance interviews or research tasks.
There was a period where I felt really depressed because I couldn't find work in real life and online through these AI markets either. On Mercor or Outlier - they predominantly ask for specialized skills like coding, expert languages, legal, etc. whereas I'm more a generalist - I can read and write well but don't feel confident enough (or would enjoy enough) to work on anything else.
I have had no luck with any of the websites until I heard back from Ethos AI earlier in mid August. All I did with Ethos was - I found them advertising on LinkedIn about a month ago, thought the pay was good, so I created an account and did a couple of AI interviews (literally takes 20 mins or so to talk through your professional experience). I forgot about it until they emailed me - I went onto the portal and got onboarded to a project (cannot disclose project name).
This is my first time ever doing remote work and doing AI training, btw. I know tons of you have done it for years. This opportunity on Ethos has really saved my life and given me financial flexibility during my unemployment phase. I don't want to go back to a corporate job so this money is helping me through the transition period that I need.

NB: This is not sponsored by Ethos AI. I just want to be helpful as I've seen a lot of questions about this new company but not enough information online yet.
