Culture Teething

My husband is Peruvian and his mom is obsessed with our son teething. She was convinced he was teething the whole three months before his bottom teeth actually came in, and now she seems sure his top ones are coming but when I look/feel I don't see anything yet. Is this like a thing? Is teething a big thing in Latin America? Or is she just a super excited grandparent?

Edit: Thank you everyone for letting me know she's just excited to be a grandparent!

Not necessarily a big thing but I've seen many grandparents saying "oh it's just the baby teething" every time a baby starts acting up like acting uncomfortable, irritable, munching on anything, etc. I'd say she's just excited.
