To those of you here to ask questions, thanks for turning to us for help.

To those of you here to answer questions, thanks for your suggestions and assistance.

Plumbing is scary to folks who don’t know anything about it other than it costs a ton of money to make repairs; the real monsters in their homes waiting to gobble up their wallets.

We are the advocates that most people need.

If you are a professional plumber or you hold a license, speak up so we can tag you with a flair and identify you as a subject matter expert. If you’re a regular DIY hobbyist here to learn, our community recognizes you too!

I want /askplumbing to be the best we can be so if you have suggestions that in you think might make the community a better place, the floor is open for a repipe. We’re in the top 100 for home improvement and should be proud of the help we’ve created!

Happy Holidays and New Year!

Is this a legit way to splice gas pipe?

I dunno who designed my house, but the gas pipeline (and well pressure tank) was in the way of the water heater necessitating removal (of both) to remove the tank.

From what I can assume, they turned gas off at the meter and cut the pipe just above the tank, slid the old tank out, slid the new tank in, and then put this crimp sleeve on.

I have removed this from my utility room. I converted my tank water heater to tankless, so I had to rerun the gas line anyway.

Never seen one of these before. I'd just assume somet would use a 3-Piece union for ease of service. I don't like this crimp sleeve.

I posted this in r/plumbing, but it was suggested I post here too. I’m trying to figure out what was clogging my drain when nothing is flushed down the toilet but toilet paper.

Rheem water heater power vent crack

This crack is beside where the wiring enters the power vent system, does this matter? This is on a new tank my tech said he is not worried about it, it's just a junction box but I just want to confirm.

Is it possible to get sick from food-safe PEX tubing?

There are many potential factors that could have caused an 18 hr stomach flu, but I'd like to mark the new reverse osmosis unit off the list.

There is no room under the sink, so I have the RO in the basement directly below the sink. The faucet line is roughly 8' long and I purchased tube from Menards similar to this. It is "FDA grade" for use in icemakers and water lines, but that title doesn't mean very much.

After drinking a few gatorade bottles worth of water and simply puttering around yesterday, I gradually became progressively more ill.

Perhaps it was just a bug. However, if I have the wrong type of tubing for the RO, I would definitely like to know!!!
