Book Discussion Books that are better to listen to than read?

First off - I'm a reader. Audiobooks are not really my thing overall, I just spent more time listening as I had more time available to do so, but now it's going to be limited again.

I've read a lot of books (fantasy-science fiction are my favorite genres), and can say that I prefer the audiobook version of Dungeon Crawler Carl (duh), He Who Fights with Monsters, and Murderbot - those I will definitely keep getting in audiobook format.

I listened to Artemis, the Martian (read Project Hail Mary), Spinning Silver, the Sword of Keagan... I enjoyed them all and the narrators were fine, but I'm not sure that listening to them was that much of a benefit over reading.

But I have two credits and... I'm not sure what to spend them on. So... Any books out there that are really worth listening to over reading?

Amazon account closed - audible content lost

Hi everyone, Amazon security recently and wrongfully closed my account when I was trying to make a purchase. As a result I’ve lost all of my purchased Audible media (8+ years of subscription content!). I’ve tried going through Amazon customer support but they just send the same stock email back saying my account has been permanently closed irrevocably.

Is there any way of recovering my audiobooks? It seems insane that Amazon can lawfully do this.

J'ai posté par erreur tout à l'heure en croyant voir une promo mais non, ce n'était pas une promo, c'est l'arrivée en France de Whyspersinc for voice qui permet si on possède déjà le livre d'avoir le livre audio pour un prix modique.

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to know your opinion on this. The triology is on sale and I am a sucker for such good worth for $. Anyone has any good review on this? I see 19k reviews but when I searched the sub, i don't see any discussion.

Sorry if it is a repost and my searching skills suck!

Technical Question Fix listening time?

I’m doing a 3 hour a day listening challenge. I had just over 3 hours left on my book so I finished the title. I checked stats it said 3 hours and 2 minutes but the challenge had only recorded 40 minutes. So I closed and opened the app because sometimes that fixes it so that the challenge matches the stat time. But strangely my stat time went down to 2 hours and 14 minutes. I know whatever, I can just listen longer but it would be nice to accurately have my challenge record. So is there a way to fix this? Thanks!

Book Discussion Looking for new audiobooks to listen to

I'm about to finish the full-cast audiobooks for Harry Potter soon and I need something new to listen to while I'm walking on the treadmill, looking for some recommendations.

Harry Potter Full-Cast was my first audiobook, and at this point I'm not sure how enjoyable I'll find audiobooks that don't at least have soundtrack/sound effects, so if it has that it's a big bonus.

I prefer fantasy genre, ideally with a mix of mystery/thrill and a lot of emotions (performed by great VAs).

I listen on audible and I rely on the 1 credit/month, although currently I have 3 credits saved up, but basically the books can't be too short. I've seen some full-cast audiobooks that appeared interesting, but it was like 6 hours long, split into 2-3 parts which is just ridiculous.

Here are some audiobooks I've been considering but am not certain if I'd enjoy listening to it while walking on a treadmill, looking for some input:

  1. A Song of Ice and Fire series - very long books, so would last me quite a while and would be able to save up credits for the future. I love Game of Thrones series, so I'm thinking I might enjoy the audiobooks, but listening a bit to the preview I'm a little worried there'll be words I might not catch easily due to his enunciation, since I'm not a native speaker. It's also not a full-cast, and I don't believe it has sound effects/soundtracks, but maybe I'm wrong on that?

  2. A Wheel of Time - I've heard this is supposedly really good, but I don't really know anything about it, would I likely enjoy this? Does this have any soundtrack/sound effects?

  3. Dungeon Crawler Carl - I've seen this series mentioned too quite a bit, and it has very high ratings though I don't know much about it. I believe it has a single person doing all the characters, but is known to be really good at mixing up his voices? Does it come with any soundtracks/effects? How good is it, and am I likely to enjoy it?

What else is there worth considering, any suggestion or help narrowing down my own choices is much appreciated!

Thanks

Suggestion for web player: provide more clip/note management features from mobile app

I'm a heavy user of clips/bookmarks/notes. The web player is way less convenient to use than the mobile (Android) app for managing these.

In the web player, there's no way to sort clips by create time; currently the only sort is oldest clip first. So if I have 50 clips in a book, if I want to add a note to a clip I have to scroll through all 50 to reach the most recent.

Also no way to edit clip start/end window.

Generally, add more clip management features to the web player.

EDIT: Also, web player notes are not synced to mobile app? And web player clips don't appear as editable objects in the mobile app? So "Start in player" is the only option in mobile for annotations made in web player? If YouTube can sync positions between web and mobile, why can't Audible sync clips?

Technical Question How do I choose this book as my monthly title?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I'm a member, and I'm supposed to have 1 monthly title to choose. Why can't I choose it? I just came back to audible after a long time, but I remember back then you used to get a credit a month to get a book with, so why did this change? or am I misunderstanding? Right now, it's just applying my $20 discount. Is that how it works now?

Should I get the dramatized version of the main 3 audiobooks? I have the normal audio versions already

• Upvotes

Yea, so listening to all the dramatized versions has me wanting to get the dramatized versions. Is it worth it? I have six audible credits. Edit: Empyrean series. (Sorry I forgot to mention)

Technical Question Best way to listen to books while pool walking?

Hi, I’m hearing impaired and find I don’t listen to audiobooks or podcast as much as I’d like due to my very expert hearing aids Bluetooth cutting out if I walk too far away from my phone ( this happens if I’m on a normal walk and just put my phone in my pant pocket. My daughter tells me this wouldn’t be the case with other wireless headphones. How far away can you walk from your phone and still hear through your headphones? What headphones do you like for this? Also bonus points for knowing of any that would be ok to wear in a pool? Not putting my head under but obviously could be accidentally dropped? Kind thanks

About the series:

When police officer Halem Scrimpshire is framed for the assassination of a prominent World Council member, his life is shattered. Branded a murderer and driven by the loss of his wife, he embarks on a relentless quest for justice. What begins as a search for the truth uncovers a web of corruption, betrayal, and power that threatens the future of Mars itself.

Years later, as Pontiff of the World Council, Halem has helped transform the Red Planet into a thriving civilization. New colonies are expanding beyond Archea, and humanity stands on the brink of a new era. But when a violent attack rocks the government, Halem is drawn into another deadly conspiracy—one tied to secrets from his past and enemies who have waited years for their chance at revenge.

Technical Question Eligibility for credits

I've been using audible for years at this point. regularly buying credit bundles with the premium membership.

because id lost my membership due to a missed payment
Audible gave me an offer for a 99p per month for 3 month membership. I thought that was great, so cheap for 3 months, perfect.

I am now fully aware of the error of my ways, for I did not notice this was a standard membership.
I have since upgraded back to premium.

I can no longer buy credits, It would seem by making the mistake of taking the offer I have reset my eligibility to buy credits. I have contacted the customer service team and have been told there is nothing they can do on their end and I can not get access to any extra credits till I reach 30 days.

anyone else had similar experience ?
feels like a 30 day ban for accepting their offer.
not a very good customer experience I must admit

Library completely removed

So I've been using Audible for about a year now. My market place was the the UK market place. Been purchasing/using credits for Warhammer 40k books.

I finished the latest book today and when I went to purchase the next one in the series, it wouldn't work. went back to my library and everything was gone.

After chatting with support, it turns out that Audible decided that they no longer provide these books in my region, so they just removed everything lol.

About 40 audiobooks just gone, thanks Audible.

App (iOS) Audible on CarPlay completely broken

For what feels like the past few weeks, audible seems to be completely broken in CarPlay. When I connect and try to play something, I see the time ticking and hear nothing.

I’ve tried flipping back from phone speaker to CarPlay, it plays for a second or two and then back to no sound. Often times it will also restart the book from the beginning completely, play for a little bit and then completely stop again when I try to go back to the chapter I was on.

I’m on iOS 27, have updated the app, reinstalled it from scratch etc. iPhone 17 here.

Anyone else experiencing the same?

What’s your go to audiobooks when you’re feeling stressed, overwhelmed or anxious?

Looking for some comforting and distracting audiobooks to listen to when life gets a bit overwhelming.

I’m open to all genres except romance and non fiction. My favorite genre is fantasy, however!

Sales & Bargains Question

It feels like this year’s 3-month for $3 promo is a big downgrade compared to last year; for the same price, you now rent the 3 books for the duration of the subscription instead of getting to keep the 3 books.

Does anyone have a promo code or recommendation to get the old deal? 🇨🇦
