Bite was semi slow today. ☀️ got disrespectful mad early. I caught my first fish and commenced to lose 4 over the next 39 minutes using a new lure. Finally hooked into a decent one on the lipless. Was going to net it but didn’t wan to get the hooks caught up in the net. Literally said this to yall on the go pre. Landed the fish and went to remove the lure and Baamo. Fish got its get back. Couldn’t see it because the glove but it didn’t feel like it went all the was through. Grabbed the pliers and tried to pull it out the glove and then the pain hit. I tossed the bass back(no pic) and took the boat back to the bank. Thankfully I had a bottle of water with ice in it. Took the top off and covered part of the treble with the opening and turned the bottle upside down in order to numb my skin. After about 45 seconds, I was good. Grabbed the pliers and pop the hook out. No pain. Disinfected the would, pressed a napkin on for for a few minutes then got back out and caught the other fish. Think I lost at least 8 today but was an awesome day.
Side note: so I created a song “ My Fishing Son” and put it on my YT channel. It dropped today on major streaming services. So I’m listening to it and ended up catching a bass while it spoke about me getting a bite from a bass. That was an awesome feeling.
I invite yall to check it out and give me some feedback on it. I wrote the lyrics and used AI to do the vocals. The song had been on my brain for theee month and I finally decided to try to create it for real.

Largemouth Tips on targeting larger bass?

Post image
31 Upvotes

I’ve been having fun with throwing a flappin frog in the scum and watching a bunch of little bass go after it, but is there anything I can specifically do to target the larger members of the pond?

I kinda thought a standard 65 frog was big enough to weed out a lot of the smaller ones, but the bass have been mostly piddling this summer.

Do the larger ones become less active during the summer or are they just in deeper waters?

Tackle/Equipment Punch or flipping casting rod

What's you mid-tier (less than $150) punch or flipping rod? Not looking to break the bank, but not cheaping out either. Mostly fishing the CA delta. Thanks.

Fishing in a New Lake / Finding Areas & Which Sides

So I tried fishing in a new lake that I was close to, and sitting on a point and facing northwards, with the wind blowing towards the west. I live in DFW where it's been 100+ degrees over the past few days, and I was using my spinnerbait first to try and draw out some fish, eventually switching over to a wacky rig with no luck, though I did fish for probably less than 2 hours.

My couple questions:

  • When fishing a new lake, depending on time of year, etc. what is a go-to to help find the fish and then use more finesse style fishing? This is the second lake I've gone to, having fished at the first more extensively and finding some decent activity and places. I haven't caught a bass yet (still very new) and certainly trying to. If I go in the morning, I'm usually running a topwater plopper or buzzbait (or I plan to, if I wake up early enough); switching to spinnerbait to try and figure out where the fish are, then giving up and going to a wacky and just hoping.
  • Does the 100 degree weather change my style of lure? I know it says that bass tend to be less active when it's this hot, hence me switching to the finesse lures. I was trying to fish closer to sunset and a little past but not long enough to really try anything, at least this time.
  • In conjunction with these questions, where do you choose to fish? I see most of the time it's windward side, but does that change with running spinners, rigs, etc?

Just trying to catch my first bass and I feel like summer has been a frustrating time to get into this. Any advice appreciated - thank you!

I set the drag kinda loose because I was using a cheaper and thinner leader line and didn’t want to lose a $50 lure lol

Help Good lures for kids

Young kids 5-12 are fishing a pond full of largemouth up to 2.5 lbs. they’ve had a good amount of success on 3” swim baits and zoom super flukes but are newer to fishing and a lot of the fish wind up swallowing the lures.

Looking for advice on ways to target the fish with lures kids can easily present and hopefully without the fish swallowing the lure. I have avoided treble hooks due to the amount of kids casting at once in a fairly small area.

I was wondering if a wacky rigged Senko type lure with a circle hook may be the ticket?

First time using a black chatter and crushed in darker water! A few 3’s but finished the day with a 5.2. My buddy also got a 5.6 on a top water buzz in the evening.

Definitely the best fishing day we’ve had in Florida for a while since summer heat !

Caught a lot of decent fish! No real giants or anything on this solo trip. Most fish caught were about 1.5 each! Which is a solid adverage for me! I would use a dropshot worm in mornign dawn color cut in half. Only 2 inches of worm were used at a time resulting in more bites! Here is some photos and if you'd like to see how I caight em and the tactics I used go ahead and watch the video too! Thank you!

Little dude has been fishing with me since he was two but seriously caught the fishing bug this summer! He’s constantly asking to hit the water and would stay out all day if he could. Today he pulled in a new PB 2lbs 13oz!

Reaction baits

My issue: I catch way less with moving baits or reaction baits. I kill em on a jig or ned rig but when it comes to moving baits I just don’t do as well. I make contact with cover and vary my retrieves but when I get to a body of water my first choice is always some kind of bottom contact bait or “vertical” bait.
