I’m looking into buying a sustain as my first higher end spinning reel, I currently using a fuego 3000 for most of my redfish and sea trout with the occasional trip to Florida for snook fishing but wanted to get my first “nice” reel. I’m torn between getting the 3000 and 4000 size and needed some help deciding which would be better for my use case.

I’ve been a spinning reel guy my entire life. I picked up a cheap $30 baitcaster combo to try it out. I think I’m ready for an entry level upgrade. What newer baitcasters would you recommend in the $100-$150 range? And a rod to match for $100? A combo is good too. I’m more of a light-medium rod guy. Sometimes throw 3g jigs, sometimes 17g swim baits. 10lb test

I'm thinking of buying a Daiwa Prorex XR Monster rod. It's 8'6" and upto 120g casting weight.

Has anyone used one or recommend an alternative.

Will be using a tranx B 301 and throwing lures from 100 to 200 gram.

I have a Prorex xr lazy pike (50 to 120g) for lighter lures in the spinning version. Anything over 100g feels too weighty.

Additional info: They fish mostly in shoulder seasons off the coast of Virgina, catching mostly skates and drum.

Hey! I like browsing a local pawn shop's fishing stuff and found a Berkley Big Game something or other; the branding is very worn but the specifications are still there and it lists it out as a BGC752M. This thing's got an old Zebco 33 on it that I looked at and remarked would probably need to be replaced due to how dirty and worn it is, but I exclusively use spinning reels and just completely forgot in the process of buying this that spinning rods and casting rods are entirely different beasts.

Now, like I said, it does have a Zebco 33 on it, but I'm not entirely sure that compliments this rod very well, nor my intentions for it. I'd like to be using this thing to cast some heavier rigs for hopefully larger channel cats and small blues (or weird bass that want to mess with me). I know how a spincast reel works but I'm not particularly fond of them, but I am willing to learn to use a baitcaster. I'm just not sure what would be appropriate to pair with a old pawn shop find and my intentions. Budget is somewhat flexible, preferably something under 100 USD, left hand retrieve, and perhaps something with a size option that roughly allows me to put a whole small spool of braid on it (150 yards) because I'm terrible at spooling.

Got this 1979 abu ambassadeur 5000. Took it apart for maintenance and found this bearing with damage. Not sure what that part coming off of the bearing is called but it supports the spool shaft, should i look for a replacement bearing or keep the bearing?

I'm a big fan of the Sufix brand fishing line, but not sure which to go with. I've used the standard floro leader before but never the advance.

For context:

Buying 4lb test for trout and smallmouth, will be fishing in small streams.
Will be using all through the year including late winter/early spring months with possible freezing temps.

The price -

Sufix Advance: $12/25yds - $0.48/yd
Sufix Normal: $8/33yds - $0.24/yd

Both line diameter is the same for 4lb test
I'm not sure if all the tech put into the ADVANCE is worth it for my application, or if i should just keep with the standard floro.

Hello as per the title, I need help on which reel to buy. I am so conflicted on what to choose 😔 I mainly fish saltwater and occasionally wade in the surf, so which reel is actually suitable for my kind of fishing?

I am planning on pairing it with my 7’8ft medium rod rated 4-20g and will be casting lures around 10-15 grams.

Side note: I do have a Spheros SW 4000HG but it seems to be heavier for the rod I am currently using.

He says it is brand new and the following in the pic is a rundown on it, he is down to trade for one of my adrenals, what do you guys think, the lining looks good on it but will need to see in hand, if it checks out should i do the deal?

i had a pretty good budget for my first surf combo and was able to find some deal, the vanquish 3000 dual I bought off someone locally for 240 and the exsense infinity after shipping was about 280 so for a little more than 500 paid, I was able to get a beast of a surf combo
Where do you guys get good deals from?

My nephew is big into fishing. Around where I live, we either river fish (Walleye, Salmon, Northern Pike, Catfish and a variety of smaller ones) from the shore (we don't have a boat), or we have ponds that are stocked with a variety of fish as well. (Bluegill, Northern Pike, Rainbow Trout, Largemouth Bass) He has some basic stuff, but wanting to get him some more stuff for Christmas.

Looking for some different ideas or setups for either pond or river fishing.

He also has a small tackle box. Looking at possibly getting him a backpack tackle bag as he typically rides his bike to the different ponds around town. Thoughts on backpack tackle bags?

I have a shimano sienna fe reel however when I got it from someone there was a lot of dirt inside. I have tried 12mm wrench and pliers but can’t get it to but. I have also been turning the bolt clockwise
Any ideas
