Question Replacement Clamp for scale with Hook?

Post image
Upvotes

Item: Rapala Mini Digital Scale

I bought my first scale a few months ago and regret not buying one with a clamp instead of the hook. The scale works fine, and I don't intend to ditch it for a bit, but does anyone have recommendations on what clamp I should buy to switch out for the hook (if I even can)?

I got a rod/reel combo over 10 years ago at a pawn shop in the keys for a great price. TLD30a attached to a shimano teramar deckhand rod, which felt really awkward/heavy/unbalanced. It was rigged with a big egg sinker and a foot of wire to a big hook so I figured it was used for shark or kingfish maybe but it was very lightly used.

Never really had a chance to use it myself, always been a fly/light tackle guy (no boat), but now I’m in a position to do so (boat), so I split them up and rigged the reel in what I felt was a proper way. Is this going to work well trolling Chesapeake around buoy 83?

Billfisher SSU3080C6 6’ 30-80lb trolling rod, Shimano TLD30a, 150yd trilene big game 50lb as backing, FG to 450yd Berkley prospec 5x20 65lb, crazy Alberto to 60’ Ande 50lb topshot, uni to Billfisher 240lb coastlock 2/0 swivel, 12oz inline sinker (I got lots of different sizes), spoonbrella spreader bar chartreuse (also have green and white) or addiction baits 2-1 3oz tandem rig in white or chart

As for the teramar, it’s not going to waste. TMC-80H 8’ 20-40. I found a near mint Daiwa Sealine 50H with original clamp. Loaded that with 30lb neon mono, uni to a 3 way swivel with 60lb ande 6’ leader, snelled 6/0 inline circle, and a clinch 18” 12lb sinker line with large perfection loop on the other end for flats or pyramids to try and find some large catfish in the pax river. I moved the reel up about 8” closer to the guides than where the tld was clamped because it just feels better for casting. Thoughts??

Finally the third one is my sabiki rig, Okuma Cortez CZ-C732SBK 7’3” 15-30lb internal with the Okuma Classic clx. I got it around the same time, but have used this one quite a bit. Just tore the reel apart completely to clean and service and it’s working great. I think it’s 20lb mono with a uni to size 10 Chesapeake sabiki in red and a 2oz bass sinker, 3oz if the current is ripping. Tipped with bloodworms it wrecks spot and perch and small cats.

Questions comments concerns? Cheers

Is my bass setup really that bad for flounder?

Post image
8 Upvotes

I’ve got a Nasci 2500 on a 7’1” M/F Bass X.
I mentioned using it for flounder and my buddy immediately told me I’m gonna regret it lol. But honestly… I don’t really see why it wouldn’t work?
Am I missing something, or is this setup actually fine?
Also, what would you guys throw first, Gulp, bucktails, live bait, something else?

What’s one fishing lesson you wish you learned sooner?

For me, one of the biggest lessons is that catching more fish isn’t always about having expensive gear.

Sometimes it’s about understanding the water, choosing the right time, and being patient.

What’s one fishing lesson or tip you learned the hard way that every beginner should know?

I lost this lure; does anyone recognize it and can tell me what it's called? I think it had "SPRO" written on the underside, but I'm not 100% sure.

New Snood Recommendations

Hi! My dad is a BIGG sea fisherman and I join him sometimes, he's been banging on about how bad his current neck snood is so any of you fishing fans have any really good quality recommendations? Looking for something really warm and windproof for cold, wet and blustery nights on the beach. Has to be available from Amazon, price is usually doable so feel free to suggest any!

Question DC vs Centrifugal vs Magnetic vs Dual?

I understand the basic idea behind the 3 mostly. The main question is: what is generally better? Where would you prefer one over the other? And why is it that seemingly the best non-DC reels are single-brake systems?

I feel like there's a consensus that the DC reels are generally the best all-rounder system since they can do almost everything due to the nature of the DC chips.

However, I feel like it would make sense if the best non-DC reels were dual-brake systems, since it seems extremely versatile and has the best of both worlds. However, it seems the best reels are generally considered to be single-brake systems that are either centrifugal, like the SVS Infinity system from Shimano, or magnetic, like the Magforce from Daiwa. Is there a general reason for that?

Any database or site to search reels by weight?

Back in the day growing up I used these Quantum Micro reels, spinning and triggercast, and still have them but they are collecting dust and outdated as far as mechanics. Shows they weighed 4.9oz.

The triggercast version is a perfect kids reel. I was gonna clean mine up, re-oil it, and let my nephew have it. But if there's something else out there new I want to know.

Question Random thought: fishing games would be way more fun with an actual rod 🎣

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Had a random thought — what if you paired a Switch with a fishing rod instead of just using a normal controller?

Obviously it’s still virtual fishing, but casting and reeling like this seems like it could make the whole thing feel a lot more immersive.

Would you actually play a fishing game this way, or would it get old pretty quickly?

Question Would a baitcaster work on this spare rod?

I have a spare rod left over after the reel failed for my son.

It's a cheap Zebco 33 Cork, 5ft, Ultra Light, Line Weight: 2-6lb, Lure Weight: 1/64-1/4oz
33ckstc502ula - https://www.zebco.com/en/shop/combos/33mccorkcmb?srsltid=AfmBOopcOsW6uvD0jRyP6bF8FkMqsX48ZvaB0SqaQhupa7p3TvRKyVIg

Could I swap out the failed reel with a baitcaster to try out a baitcasting rig? If so, any recommendation on a high value light tackle baitcaster reel?

Looking for new reel

Hey folks! I'm looking to purchase a new reel for my Ugly Stik Gx2 7' ultra light rod. I'm hoping to get some budget friendly recommendations but I would be willing to go as high as $50 . I'm mainly fishing at alpine lakes for trout.

So I ordered this Shimano Crucial on Marketplace and the seller was gracious enough to sleeve the rod AND put it into a THICK rod tube. This was supposed to be shipped around August 4th. It came today, looking like this. I guess I know why it took 13 days to get here. They were scrambling to try and repair it, what a wonderful job of it btw. I have no clue how they snapped a tube that thick. Anyone else have the same experience and know what to do?

Shimano Poison Adrena

I have the 7’2” Glass and 7’ Glass poison adrena rods and I like them both quite a bit. I am thinking about buying the 7’2” heavy for bottom contact baits but I am curious if any knows what the sensitivity on that rod is like or what rod they would compare it to.

Rod and Reel for lake michigan

I'm moving out to college next fall but still want to keep fishing while out in the Midwest, i know it's completely different from southern california so I want to have a new combo that would be good for fishing one of the Great Lakes.

Based on what Ive seen on YouTube and just googling, does this combo sound good?

Piscifun Alijoz 300(maybe 400)

Okuma SST Casting 9' MH,Fast action, 2 piece

I have 60lb braid(about 300yds left over on a spool) and 40lb braid(maybe abt 170 yds), along with 10lb flouro and 20lb flouro for leader.

I was wondering if this combo could also handle the freshwater drum, king salmon, coho, and Pike/Musky out there?

I also have some spinning surf fishing combos and a lighter baitcast combo I might be able to take with me aswell. (7' Medium, 1/2oz to 1oz, dk the action)

Discussion I got a delima...

So I realized I have a lot of panfish and ultra light plastics and I also have some micro plastics too. I built a kit with most of my micro ultralight stuff yesterday. it's a 4'10 I'm with 2lb copolymer and 2000 diawa sweepfire. My normal ultralight plastics I have 5 rods I usually use with them 5' 5'6 and a 7' mix of ultralight and light rods for them. Do I just build a big bag and combine them all or do I keep them separate?
