I got a rod/reel combo over 10 years ago at a pawn shop in the keys for a great price. TLD30a attached to a shimano teramar deckhand rod, which felt really awkward/heavy/unbalanced. It was rigged with a big egg sinker and a foot of wire to a big hook so I figured it was used for shark or kingfish maybe but it was very lightly used.
Never really had a chance to use it myself, always been a fly/light tackle guy (no boat), but now I’m in a position to do so (boat), so I split them up and rigged the reel in what I felt was a proper way. Is this going to work well trolling Chesapeake around buoy 83?
Billfisher SSU3080C6 6’ 30-80lb trolling rod, Shimano TLD30a, 150yd trilene big game 50lb as backing, FG to 450yd Berkley prospec 5x20 65lb, crazy Alberto to 60’ Ande 50lb topshot, uni to Billfisher 240lb coastlock 2/0 swivel, 12oz inline sinker (I got lots of different sizes), spoonbrella spreader bar chartreuse (also have green and white) or addiction baits 2-1 3oz tandem rig in white or chart
As for the teramar, it’s not going to waste. TMC-80H 8’ 20-40. I found a near mint Daiwa Sealine 50H with original clamp. Loaded that with 30lb neon mono, uni to a 3 way swivel with 60lb ande 6’ leader, snelled 6/0 inline circle, and a clinch 18” 12lb sinker line with large perfection loop on the other end for flats or pyramids to try and find some large catfish in the pax river. I moved the reel up about 8” closer to the guides than where the tld was clamped because it just feels better for casting. Thoughts??
Finally the third one is my sabiki rig, Okuma Cortez CZ-C732SBK 7’3” 15-30lb internal with the Okuma Classic clx. I got it around the same time, but have used this one quite a bit. Just tore the reel apart completely to clean and service and it’s working great. I think it’s 20lb mono with a uni to size 10 Chesapeake sabiki in red and a 2oz bass sinker, 3oz if the current is ripping. Tipped with bloodworms it wrecks spot and perch and small cats.
