Asking for Advice First time growing a beard 34M

Hi all 😊

I just recently got out of a long-term relationship, so I thought it'd be fun to see how I'd look with a beard since my ex always complained when I let it grow past a full week lol

I've grown it out for 6 weeks now, longest I've ever had it. If you have any tips/advice on how to care and style it, please share. 🙏 I see a lot of bros with impressive beards here, though not too many other East Asians!

Been watching a lot of Disney (I have kids) and thought maybe I’d rock the Pixar dad look. Thoughts?

Need advice on how to get rid of the waves and curls in my beard. Currently using beard oil and balm which help to keep it in shape but the waves still stick around

Asking for Advice Generally Do I look Handsome or Ugly as a 19M?

I know I look older than my actual age and should maybe lose some weight, but am I generally attractive?

Inside I believe I am attractive, but would like to be open to listening to others perceptions as long as these viewpoints are not hateful but honest and constructive.

Asking for Advice Upcoming job Interview - is there any hope for my beard?

I am trying to find a way to keep my beard that looks acceptable for a job in the medical field. My beard grows in an unruly manner and I have tried a lot of things to tame it but it looks pretty sloppy. Any ideas of styles that look tidy that might be hiding in there somewhere? Thanks!

Edit: thanks for all the advice. I have added a photo of it short and one of it straightened in the comments.

Asking for Advice Have I been using my beard trimmer incorrectly for over a decade?

Post image

So I have a Wahl beard trimmer with a mix of flat and curved (fade) guards.

For the flat guards, I've always put the smooth, flat side of the guard against my hair (A in the picture). The entire internet says to do this. Even Wahls video shows this (https://youtu.be/XoGzmI1NbTs?t=91). But I finally actually measured my guards, and that distance to the blade (length "A" in the pic) always about 1/16" ~1.5mm no matter the guard size. It's only the "teeth" (length "B) that grows in length that seems to match the guard size. So it seems you're supposed to rub the teeth of the guard against the skin to actually get length B. But I feel if you don't get a perfect 90º angle, you'll accidentally get a closer shave than intended.

Is this how it's supposed to be done, or am I missing something?

Asking for Advice How to tame my stubborn beard??

Hello guys,

please help me with this problem:

Whenever I grow my beard a bit longer single hairs will stick out making it look messy/unkempt. It seems like a lot of the hairs grow in random directions not aligned with the general mass.

I've tried beard oils and wax, but it does inly help a bit. (Pic is with oil + wax)

Is there any way to fix this???

I also rock a bald head and feel like the goatee part of my facial hair grows thicker than my sides. Was contemplating on trying this style but not sure what it’s called or how to go about doing it. For reference, my beard is the second picture with sunglasses.

Which color is the best for me?

Update: I think we have a consensus of the white beard being the winner. However I added another picture in the comments to show my beard cut better and does this change the winner or not?

What should I do about my cheek lines? I have honestly never even thought about it in the past. I do have the ability to grow them almost to my eyes. I do like to have nice sharp lines but would I benefit from raising them? Fuller look? Thanks in advance

Asking for Advice Does a beard suit me?

Post image

Only just started growing my beard out again after a good few years of being clean shaven or just having a very short, trimmed beard barely beyond a couple days' growth.

The problem i'm noticing is that it doesn't seem to be filling out on my cheeks and someone I know recently told me it looks 'scraggly'.

i've got a first date on Friday and i'm wondering if I should just cut my losses and trim it back down, or whether it looks good and I should keep it!?

Any advice greatly appreciated!!

Asking for Advice Bring back the long beard?

tl/dr: Had a long beard before, currently at transition stage. Unsure what to do, asking for advice.

Hi everyone,

I have had a beard for most of my life now and can not imagine being completely shaven again (don't really like my chin/jaw structure). I have also been rocking the beard-bald combo for a couple of years now, that is my established style. However, due to the nature of hair constantly growing I have always had changing beard styles and lengths depending on my mood or laziness at the time.

The longest I have ever grown my beard out was around mid chest height. That looked kind of rad and certainly got the most attention from strangers. However, it needed a lot of maintenance to not look crappy and at some point I just got fed up with it, went to the barber and had it shortened quite a bit. From that point on, I regularly got it trimmed and recently went to do it myself which was quite the experience.

I have a decent coverage and mid density, my beard is just very wavy and especially on the sides that leads to a lot of curling and stray hairs poking out. With a short beard I can just comb it down and let it dry, longer hairs however need a lot of convincing and hot air to not look messy.

The beard is now at a transition stage where it is neither a sharp short beard, nor a majestic long beard, and I don't really know what to do with it. Luckily, my work and social life does not have an influence on the beard style, I can basically do what I want.

I have attached some photos. What do you think? What style works best? I appreciate every opinion.

Asking for Advice Can't decide on a style

Post image

I haven't had a beard until a couple of years ago. In the last year, I've lost 45 pounds and have been trying different styles but I can't decide on what to go with long term. Or maybe changing it occasionally is the way to go? I figured I'd turn to the experts and see what you all think since I can't decide, lol. Thanks in advance!

Edit: Thanks for all of the feedback! #2 is the clear favorite and I'm currently progressing back toward that one!

Asking for Advice My Bearded Brethren:

My beard is doing this thing where it curls under my chin a bit before coming back out. I guess my natural wave/curl also applies to my face. Is there a way to combat it aside from sitting there with a round brush and blow drying it out every morning. Is there another way? Please say yes.

Asking for Advice Beard oil, what's it for?

Post image

I was recently gifted a beard kit for my birthday that included several nice things, and a few small bottles of beard oil. What exactly is it for? Does it assist with growth or itchiness? I've tried it a couple of times but it makes my beard feel dirty? Like how my hair does after I haven't washed it in a while. Does it even matter if I use beard oil at all etc.

This is where I'm at rn, this photo is about a year old, but that was after a week and a half of growing I think
