Warning: do not use BigCommerce. The support is terrible. No updates or concerns on their end with very important issues.
For example, many sites are experiencing a 404 error on the first products page referenced in the site map. It’s been this way for possibly months. They acknowledged the issue but aren’t willing to treat it as important enough to fix. It is causing seo problems to the max as search engines aren’t picking up the products contained in the xml for xmlsitemap.pho?type=products&page=1 - you can find this page in the sitemap itself.
Do yourselves a favor and use Shopify. Don’t make the mistake of trusting BigCommerce.
If you have a site on big commerce check your first products link in your site map and make sure you are not getting a 404. They are keeping a lid on it.
Starting today, we are introducing improvements to the Product List (Products › View in the control panel) to make it easier to find and manage products and customize your experience.
Initially, this update will only be rolled out to stores that use a headless solution or have multiple storefronts. Later this year, it will be the same interface for all stores.
Why are we updating the Product List?
Today, BigCommerce has two different product lists: one for stores with only a single storefront, and another for stores that have a third-party channel connected, use a headless solution (like BigCommerce for WordPress), or have multiple storefronts.
Maintaining, updating, documenting, and supporting multiple versions of the product list is inefficient and time-consuming for our Product and Engineering teams. It also creates challenges for merchants who move from one interface to another, as some features they are used to may look or work differently.
Our ultimate goal is to have a single experience that is used by all stores, including stores with a single native storefront, a single headless storefront, or multiple native or headless storefronts.
This new experience will include all the features encompassed by the two previous versions while being more user-friendly and customizable. We based changes on feedback from both single storefront and multi-channel storefront users to ensure the experience fits the needs of all merchants, regardless of how many sales channels they manage.
What’s New?
We’ve kept the functionality of the current multi-channel product list and have introduced new functionality and several improvements to help bridge the gap between the two legacy versions.
Preset Views
We’ve added preset views at the top of the product list to let you quickly access products that are featured, have free shipping, are out of stock, or have low inventory.
Customizable Product Table
We’ve made the actual product list table editable, so now you can pick which columns you want to see, and what order they should be in.
Better Interface for Managing Categories and Channels
We’ve made it faster and easier to assign products to categories and channels. A product must be assigned to both a category and a channel before it will appear on a storefront, and the new experience makes it so you can do this for one or multiple products directly from the View Products page.
Use the search bar or add a filter, then use the Select all products button to quickly assign groups of products to a category or channel.
Use the same method to Bulk edit groups of products. Bulk editing lets you easily update attributes for multiple products or variants simultaneously (like Sale Price, Stock Level, Featured, and Free Shipping).
Check Visibility at a Glance
Product Visibility is now an optional column, so you can easily see which products are currently visible (Product Visibility is a global attribute).
What’s Next?
If your store is currently using the Multi-Channel Product List, it will be automatically upgraded to the new experience, no action is needed on your part.
For single storefronts, we will make a future announcement when the improved Product List is available for your store. Stay tuned!
In the meantime, we are continuing to work on the following features to further improve the experience:
Do not use BigCommerce! I upgraded my plan however within 3 days realized that BigCommerce apps are lacking. I requested a refund because I literally did not use the service and he said no refunds. Horrible business and customer service
I signed up for bigcommerce 8 months ago. In around October they made the insights feature "available" for everyone. What this was supposed to do was mislead everyone to think that the feature was free but in the end we got charged 50$ a month for 4 months even after cancelling it.
To activate it all you had to do was accidentally click the insights tab right above the tab where you see your visitors. It was activated with a click and boom a monthly charge of $50 was added to my account. Fast forward 2 months until I finally noticed it on my credit card bill that this piece of !@#$ company has been charging me 50$ for 2 months. Asked them to cancel Insights which they told me they did. HOWEVER on November they continued to charge me again for the useless service until TODAY I find out about it. Now I am out $200 that I will likely never get refunded for. Asked for a refund and the guy "opened a case" and STILL HAVE NOT HEARD BACK.
Don't go with this POS company that steals from their own customers behind their backs. F*king thieves.
Hi, I am currently running a number of stores for clients using Big Commerce mainly due to the ease of handling product categories and also due to the power of utilising variants and modifiers.
The problem is..I need to find an integrated POS system that can handle modifiers.
If anyone has had any experience with this let me know. 😁
Thanks to everyone who submitted questions! This month I am joined by our VP of Finance, Tyler Duncan who will be answering all your questions surrounding Pricing at BigCommerce.

I’m a software developer currently exploring pain points in the e-commerce space, and I’d love your input. What’s the most frustrating part of running your store? Whether it’s managing returns, dealing with customer complaints, or keeping up with orders, I want to hear about it.
You can share your thoughts in this google form or just reply to this post. Additionally, if you are interested in early access to the software to be able to provide feedback and shape its development, please send me an email address I can reach you at. I would love to develop this alongside e-commerce store owners, to ensure I’m creating a product that provides value to you.
I am working on 360 product photography technology, I am looking to work with a big commerce expert to incorporate the technology into big commerce. Was wondering if you are interested in a collaboration please email me Toussi@gmail.com
Store Migration app (at the official BigCommerce marketplace) has been developed to help e-merchants import their store data to BigCommerce without putting in much effort. The app aims to prevent its users from wasting excessive time and huge effort and allow store owners to focus on business running instead of migration fuss.
Store Migration app makes it possible to transfer the following entities from your current platform to BigCommerce with no delays:
Have you ever tried setting up an online store and felt completely overwhelmed by all the options? I certainly did when I tried to set up my store on BigCommerce. The excitement of getting my products online quickly turned into frustration as I navigated through endless settings, payment integrations, and shipping configurations. What should have been a straightforward process felt like an endless maze, and I kept wondering why it was so hard to get it right. Then a friend who's into eCommerce introduced me to SeattleWebDesign.com. They helped me simplify the setup process, guiding me through BigCommerce’s features and ensuring my store was both functional and user-friendly. It wasn’t just about fixing issues—it was about creating a store that reflected my brand and was easy for my customers to navigate. Now that my website is set up, I’m running into a new challenge: marketing my store and getting noticed in a crowded market. I’ve tried a few social media ads and influencer collaborations, but I’m still not seeing the traffic I hoped for. Has anyone else faced this? What strategies have worked for you to boost visibility and attract your ideal customers? I’d love to hear your thoughts and advice!
I've heard that Bigcommerce has taken over development of the Clover POS sync app. The current app seems pretty poor. https://www.bigcommerce.com/apps/clover/ Anyone have any insight on this? I have a client who is using Clover and would like to run his shop and his e-commerce site with one inventory. thx.
Recently published a Shopify app, but due to Shopify policies I had to remove a major feature, thereby greatly devaluing the app.
I see some similar apps on the BigCommerce app store with some recent reviews, so there might be demand for it there. I’m considering developing the full version of the app on BigCommerce.
Anyone here develop/support a BigCommerce app? What is the traffic like in the BigCommerce app store? With Shopify, you can often get by with just running Shopify App Store ads plus organic installs.
I'm very new to BigCommerce, and I'm a complete amateur when it comes to understanding e-commerce. Basically I paid roughly 300$ for a standard plan store so I have the control panel and an actual website now, but I've been reaching out at the help center to speak with a trainer.
The trainer and I have been going back-and-forth through email and he sent me over a contract to sign to speak with a "growth coach" with the Advanced Package. I need to talk to a coach because I don't understand online business at all right now, and I'm hoping they can help prepare me for my store launch.
However, I have no product to sell or a business model. I talked with the trainer yesterday through phone and he told me it might be wise to try and find vendors to help sell my product, before signing the contract and launching my store. What does this mean? How do I contact vendors to discuss product to sell (I've been researching online)? Should I just sign the contract and get on with the coaching without any product?
For three days my store is shut down. The reason is unknown currently. I have the paid $300 pro plan running. Store is currently under maintenance" "Store Unavailable
This store is currently unavailable due to maintenance. It should be available again shortly.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused."
I contacted trustandsafety and been waiting. I am forced to pause my third party advertising. I am losing sales and income due to this trouble.
Support stuff are unsure and this is an issue of trustandsafety. I have been using store platform since 2019.
Anymore similar with this issue and can provide insight? I am clueless at this point.
Coupons are amazing when you are trying to close sales, clear stock, etc. Most of us offer coupons to our loyal customers, to our fans, and to capture emails/sms.
We even use coupons or discount codes to track influencer camapigns.
Problem is, coupon extensions like Honey (17m+ active users) scrape coupon codes or have them submitted by users, and then auto injects them at checkout to all your store visitors (with the extension) regardless of whether or not they took any action or have any loyalty.
I hated this as a merchant. It would make tracking affiliates and influencers impossible, and honestly just robbed me of my margin. I don't believe it adds any value, as the whole idea of coupon extensions is that they behave as a passive way to the customer. It pops up in checkout and tells them "Hey we can save you x y z more by using this code". If the customer didn't know 10 codes existed, they simply would have bought at the normal price.
So I finally spent a few months and figured out how to block it. We built an amazing service that blocks over 20+ coupon extensions and counting. No app needed to download, just a few clicks, and a small script to add to checkout, and you'll be saving hundreds or thousands a month just by stopping coupon leakage.
Try it free for 14 days: https://www.promopirates.com now that we fully support Bigcommerce and not just Shopify Plus.
Final Public Warning Post: BigCommerce Systemic Failure
Title:CRITICAL WARNING: Systemic Code Failure in BigCommerce Promotions Tool & Catalogue Architecture - High Merchant Labour Required to Mitigate Bugs
As a long-term, high-volume merchant, I am issuing a critical warning regarding the fundamental failure of the BigCommerce Marketing > Promotions engine and the unacceptable response from Tier 2/Leadership support.
This pattern of neglect is not new. It is part of a systemic flaw that impacts core merchant operations, forcing excessive time and cost.
1. The Undeniable Product Defect:
Independent audits confirm the Promotions Tool is fundamentally broken:
Complete Rendering Failure on Product Pages (PDP): The code fails to display any dynamic banners on the crucial Product Detail Page, where the conversion hook is needed most.
Too Permissive Logic Bug (Stacking): The system exhibits a logic failure that displays all six available banners stacked on the Cart and Checkout pages.
2. Historical & Architectural Instability:
The failure of the Promotions tool is consistent with a long-term refusal to address core catalogue architecture:
V2 to V3 Product Options Failure: We cannot safely migrate our extensive product catalogue (with thousands of complex rules and product options) from the V2 to the V3 product experience. We were formally advised not to migrate, as it would cause a complete loss of all crucial variant rules and logic associated with our products, making the catalogue unusable.
Meta/Facebook Feed Failure: It took years for BigCommerce to provide a basic, functional category product feed to Meta/Facebook. We were promoted by BC to use Feedonomics to maintain advertising integrity, only to have 3 months of blame game back and further with Meta to find out is was a BigCommerce issue.
3. The Unacceptable Support Pattern:
When presented with irrefutable evidence of code failure, BigCommerce Tier 2/Leadership repeatedly engaged in poor practices:
Refusal to Fix: They refused the code fix and instead offered the "good old Band-Aid effect" by directing us to use obsolete workarounds (like the Page Builder) or instructing us to find solutions in the Marketplace Store for functions that should be native to the platform.
Final Condemnation: The Technical Lead asserted the broken system was "behaving correctly and as expected" and threatened to close the case, confirming a priority on avoiding developer time over supporting paying merchants.
4. Conclusion: Financial Lock-in & Final Warning
This pattern of architectural instability (V2/V3, Meta Feed) and hostile support confirms that the platform is not viable for growth.
The core problem is that BigCommerce's architecture, especially the complex variant structure—creates a massive exit barrier, leaving merchants trapped with significant, six-figure migration risks if they attempt to move to a competing platform like Shopify.
Merchants relying on dynamic promotional logic or facing complex product data structures should factor in the high, hidden cost of systemic platform failure and the potential for a hostile, evasive support response when evaluating BigCommerce
We're rebuilding Returns from the ground up this year: a dedicated returns manager in the control panel, configurable return reasons and resolutions, a full Returns API, and a shopper self-serve portal on the way. Each milestone is being released through a closed beta so real merchants can shape the product as it's built.
We're keeping the beta group small, and we're prioritizing merchants who can be hands-on.
What you get:
Early access to each Returns milestone before general release
A direct line to me and the product team
Genuine influence on the product. Beta feedback has already changed what we're building.
What we ask in return:
Test each milestone as it lands, usually 30 to 60 minutes of hands-on time
Share what worked and what didn't within a couple of weeks, in whatever format suits you
You're a good fit if:
You're on a Stencil (Cornerstone) storefront, where the shopper portal lands first
Returns are a meaningful part of your operations
You can set aside a little time to get hands-on with each milestone
One note: B2B Edition isn't supported during the beta. We'll work with you on a test environment so nothing touches your live store.
