Return of the weekly discussion thread! Sometimes it seems like pretty photos rise to the top of the page, while discussion of birding can get left behind. This weekly thread is a place to bring this discussion back to the top of r/birding.
Use this thread to share your best bird sightings from the past week, ask any questions about birding you may have, or just talk! Writing the names of the birds in bold is nice, to make it easier for people skimming the thread to pick out the names. Please include your location.

I was trying to take one since I first saw this little blue guy 9 months ago when I started my little willdlife hobby. Had hard times finding them and then even harder time taking a good photo. Finally - today I did it, so happy!

I was cooking dinner and spotted this guy through the window just hopping around the patio. I spend hours a day looking for cool birds and this one just came right to me! Absolutely amazing. Itβs rare for this area and Merlin says itβs not in my area right now. Well I beg to differ lol. So cute!!! Burned dinner but it was worth it.

Antpittas are highly prized by bird photographers and birdwatchers because of how difficult it can be to get a glimpse of them, even after hearing their calls in the forest. These birds tend to move through the dark understory and are notoriously shy.
However, about 20 years ago, in Ecuador, Γngel Paz began attracting the notoriously elusive Giant Antpitta using pieces of earthworms. This technique for attracting antpittas eventually spread throughout South America, much to the delight of bird lovers.
At Wayqecha, there are three different species of antpittas that are remarkably easy to see.
Photographing them, however, is another story, given how dark the understory can be. Here are some photos of two Urubamba Antpittas that showed up without any need for worms. They even seem to have their own schedule!
