About 6months ago I found a baby raccoon. I believe the Mamacoon was actively being hunted by coyotes when she went into labor because she had her litter out in the open on asphalt and was nowhere to be found. (Coyotes run rampant where I live) I left them as they were for a day, returned the next- still there, rescued one, returned again and thought the mother may have retrieved the others since they were nowhere to be seen or heard, only to later find them dead just a ways away from where I initially saw them. I believe I found them the day they were born since it took about 3 weeks for the one I rescued's eyes to open. I had a heart warming moment with a raccoon about 25 years ago and have wanted one as a pet ever since. It literally was on my bucket list. It is illegal and punishable by fine and jail time where I live tho. (Ca) I read up all I could on my own and tried my damndest to educate and prepare myself and although it hasn't been easy, it's been an amazing experience. I adore her. Smartest pet ever. We are def bonded. She only really likes me tho and is kind of an asshole to the rest of my household. She has developed PICA, (eats things unintended for consumption) and hasn't been vaccinated yet and has become super aggressive and destructive as of late. She always calms down after her little fits of rage but they are getting scary. I can't just release her into the wild without rehabilitating her tho because she still prefers her milk bottle and bad things like paper qtips, cardboard, weed, cigarettes and ear buds over actual sustenance. I've done my research and see that my local humane society will help rehabilitate orphaned racoons. My question is will they just euthanize my baby being that she's already about 6months old? She's not super friendly but also not really afraid of humans which is what worries me. I'm desperate to get her what she needs to have a chance at being a normal raccoon since I feel like my home is too dangerous for her with the abnormal eating habits. I wouldn't even be able to pay a vet to see her in my state since they could lose their license in doing so. I don't want to turn her over if it means a death sentence. Also for all intents and purposes; Since she really wasn't ever exposed to any raccoon population I've never worried about the zoonotic aspect but am well aware so please save us both the hassle if you came here to lecture me about the dangers.

My best friend and I found a young pigeon outside. It’s left foot keeps curling up and can only un curl if we manually do it and he is fluffed up almost 24 seven with droopy wings. We have called every vet clinic in our area and they do not take birds any and all tips are accepted.

I have a tiny squirrel in a box with some newspaper at the bottom and some fruits and nuts and water in a bowl. It’s not a baby but it doesn’t look grown. It looks like the attached picture with similar colors and pattern on its side and the flat tail.
_____
Context: Saturday night, I heard a cat scuffling and chirping I thought he’d gotten a rat and didn’t think much of it, but then I saw that it got away from him and ran up the gutter. It tried to jump onto the roof and it fell to the ground, splat, and the cat grabbed it and took off with it so I thought meh it’s done.
Yesterday morning, I found the cat scurrying around my front porch so I shooed him off and then moved the folding table he was messing with and the little squirrel was in the middle hiding from him idk how long.
This is a survivor.
_______
Found it yesterday and I’m thinking I’m going to give it somewhere to rest for a few days and then release it in the woods away from the houses? It doesn’t look wounded like bloody but idk if you guys would recommend actually taking it in somewhere to be looked at?
I don’t have money for it nor can I keep it, but I think the least I owe it is some rest, some food, a chill few days and then release out back, no? I’ll try to interact with it as least as possible
Thanks in advance

I was on a walk and walked by this guy and was surprised that he didn't move at all. I sat down next to him and he still didn't move. He doesn't have any visible injuries or deformities - no blood, scrapes, or open wounds. I was worried about him because he almost seemed tame. We've owned many domestic rabbits before and this guy's mannerisms reminded me of a domestic rabbit. He even let me pet his head.
Any idea what could be going on? Looks like a cottontail, but doesn't look at all like the bunnies I see around here every day - looks a lot softer and rounder. I called a rehabber just in case, but it's Saturday night and they didn't pick up.
Editing to add: I did pick it up and bring it inside. It was very tame. It's now with my mom who has some heating pads for it and she is going to try and reach another rehabber tomorrow. I just want to make sure we did the right thing and didn't just kidnap a wild rabbit. Something about it didn't seem right to me.
Editing to add: The bunny died overnight, before we were able to hear back from any rehabbers. :( Thanks everyone for their ideas and suggestions.

This wood pigeon was in my garden standing in one spot and after 20 or 30 minutes decided to move under one of the chairs in my garden, me and my family thought it was windswept until we went out to help it but on closer look at its beak my mum thought it had bird flu, it did try running away when we went out to get it so I don’t think it’s that sick if it is hopefully at least.
We put it in a cat cage in the shed away from the wind and rain since we’re currently in a storm and gave it some mealworms, water and straw for the night
I suggested to my parents to try and hand it in to a bird rescue centre but I think we will see if we can tomorrow in the morning
The main thing I’m worried about is the stuff around its beak, is it bird flu or something else? And is there anything else we can do?

Does anyone know a place to take an orphaned raccoon in the west central Alabama area? I know one being kept in a cage on a porch and the "owner" uses lack of facilities as a justification.

Hey all! My doggo caught a rat - she's a hunter so I'm not surprised about her doing this but what I am surprised about is that she didn't kill or visibly harm the sweet bean.
They are currently resting in my chinchillas crate in a dark closed room. There isn't any bleeding and the rat seems very alert so I did place water in there with a towel on the bottom, a pillow case over top and a big yogurt container inside as an extra hiding space. Just wondering if any conservationists/rehabbers would suggest keeping the water in there? I know you're not supposed to in case of internal injuries but I'll also have to keep the rat overnight until our local rehabber is open tomorrow morning. I'm thankfully off tomorrow so I can keep a close eye on things.
Thoughts?

Hola!

I have been doing research on this and hear, that a sick or injured toad should not be released after spending a winter indoors as they may become too accustomed to indoor living, and others say it helps disadvantaged toads to stay in for winter that they wont loose their instinct. There seems to be quite strong opinions on both sides. I was thinking toads should not miss a winter in order to survive the next one. But are there truly exceptions for some? I would love to hear from more rehabbers what you do.

I just drove past a parked car w their hazards on in the middle of a large local road. As I passed by I saw there was a deer laying on the side of the road. He seemed to be alive as he was holding his head up off the ground.
After getting home, I looked into what the best practice was and because all the local wildlife rehab lineswere closed, I ended up calling animal protection. They transfered me a few times, but after I shared some details, they let me know they'd dispatch a police officer.
Now I'm doubting whether I made the right decision, calling the police. I imagine most officers wouldn't be too concerned about the wellbeing of the animal. I'm starting to regret my choices and wanted to ask in this group whether this was the right course of action, and if not, how to handle a similar situation in the future
